- 00:00:33episode about Enlightenment if you want
- 00:00:35that I have plenty of those go check

- 00:00:41this here is for people who actually
- 00:00:42want to have an Enlightenment experience
- 00:00:43and this is a very powerful method this
- 00:00:45method is called nety netti comes first

- 00:00:52basically means is it means not this not
- 00:00:56that it's sort of a process of
- 00:00:58elimination for getting towards
- 00:01:01Enlightenment
- 00:01:03now on the other hand I should tell you
- 00:01:05if you are new to this concept of
- 00:01:07Enlightenment uh maybe you do actually
- 00:01:09want to sit through and just do this
- 00:01:11right now without getting a lot of
- 00:01:12introductory information about it
- 00:01:14because in a sense the more conceptual
- 00:01:16knowledge and understanding you have
- 00:01:17about Enlightenment the more difficult
- 00:01:19it is for these kinds of exercises to be
- 00:01:22effective it could be really effective
- 00:01:24for you just to come into this totally
- 00:01:26cold totally clueless and you might have
- 00:01:28an Enlightenment experience right now so
- 00:01:32uh set aside 30 or 40 minutes make sure
- 00:01:36you have time to do this visualization
- 00:01:38I'm going to take you through right this
- 00:01:40can be a very powerful method that you
- 00:01:41can use with me or you can learn it and
- 00:01:44use it by yourself I personally do this
- 00:01:46myself and uh it can get you some great
- 00:01:49results so what are we talking about
- 00:01:52here
- 00:01:53basically we want to discover what
- 00:01:57exactly it is that you are
- 00:02:00that's all Enlightenment is it's the
- 00:02:02discovery of your true self what are you
- 00:02:07exactly the big problem here as you can
- 00:02:10already see is that you already know who
- 00:02:12you
- 00:02:13are at least you think you do but the
- 00:02:17situation is so bad and there's so much
- 00:02:20ignorance here that there's not even a
- 00:02:24possibility for you to consider that you
- 00:02:27might be something other than what you
- 00:02:29all already know yourself to
- 00:02:31be it's not just a belief for you that
- 00:02:34you know who you are it's not just a
- 00:02:36feeling it's not just an emotion it's
- 00:02:38not just a conviction or a
- 00:02:40theory it's
- 00:02:42truth you know exactly who you are I'm
- 00:02:45talking to you right now I'm pointing to
- 00:02:47you right now that thing that's sitting
- 00:02:49there listening to me that creature that
- 00:02:52human being that you believe that you
- 00:02:54are the body and the mind and the brain
- 00:02:57and whatever else you might believe that
- 00:02:59you are
- 00:03:00that for you isn't just a belief that
- 00:03:02for you is a fact of reality in fact
- 00:03:05it's such a brute fact for you that it
- 00:03:10might be the most indubitable fact about
- 00:03:14reality that you
- 00:03:15have I could probably get you to doubt
- 00:03:18anything that you think you know about
- 00:03:20life and reality except the fact that
- 00:03:22you are this thing sitting there right
- 00:03:25there and yet that's exactly my mission
- 00:03:29so to speak is to get you to start to
- 00:03:31doubt that and to create some
- 00:03:33possibility that you could be other than
- 00:03:36what you've thought you've been your
- 00:03:37entire
- 00:03:38life that's very difficult to do because
- 00:03:41it
- 00:03:42requires a degree of openness that most
- 00:03:46human beings cannot stomach and their
- 00:03:49imagination can't even
- 00:03:53fathom nevertheless that's what we're
- 00:03:55going to attempt to do so I hope you can
- 00:03:57remain open-minded with me now notice
- 00:04:00that I'm not here trying to convince you
- 00:04:02of some belief system or some religious
- 00:04:05ideology or some physical cosmology or
- 00:04:08something like this I'm not really
- 00:04:10trying to get to change your
- 00:04:12beliefs what I'm trying to get you to do
- 00:04:14is I'm trying to get you to have a
- 00:04:15direct
- 00:04:16experience of your true
- 00:04:19nature and this is
- 00:04:22possible it's possible to have a direct
- 00:04:25experience so you believing me isn't
- 00:04:29what we're after and it's not going to
- 00:04:31help it's very important that you
- 00:04:33understand this what you need to do is
- 00:04:35to actually hear my words read between
- 00:04:38the lines and have a direct experience
- 00:04:40of what I'm referring to because the
- 00:04:41words I'm using have no connection to
- 00:04:44the experience itself they're just
- 00:04:46guides they're just AIDS all right so be
- 00:04:50very wise here and read between the
- 00:04:52lines of what I'm
- 00:04:54saying if you're open to that then let's
- 00:04:57begin let's just for the sake of shits
- 00:05:01and giggles let's do a thought
- 00:05:03experiment you like thought experiments
- 00:05:06just take the rest of this episode the
- 00:05:08rest of the next half hour the next hour
- 00:05:11and just let's play around let's play
- 00:05:13around with your mind let's play around
- 00:05:14with your beliefs right so what I want
- 00:05:16you to do is I want you to just kind of
- 00:05:17to set aside some of the firm beliefs
- 00:05:20that you have about how life Works how
- 00:05:22reality is just set those aside I'm not
- 00:05:24saying you have to forget about them
- 00:05:25forever I know you hold them very
- 00:05:28precious and dear I know you think
- 00:05:30they're so true and right that you can't
- 00:05:31let them go even for a minute but you
- 00:05:33know what it won't kill you just let
- 00:05:36them go set them aside for
- 00:05:39like
- 00:05:4060 to 30 minutes it won't kill you I
- 00:05:44promise unless do a thought
- 00:05:47experiment I want you to open your mind
- 00:05:50to the radical
- 00:05:52possibility that you are not a body or a
- 00:05:56mind or a brain
- 00:06:01that you are not an
- 00:06:05object that you are not a
- 00:06:09thing that you are not a
- 00:06:12soul that you are not a
- 00:06:16spirit or any other thing that really
- 00:06:19you might imagine yourself to
- 00:06:21be open your mind to the possibility
- 00:06:24that you are not your
- 00:06:26DNA and that you are not the neurons in
- 00:06:30your
- 00:06:31brain and that you are not chemical
- 00:06:34electrical signals firing through the
- 00:06:38brain or your software in the brain none
- 00:06:42of this
- 00:06:43stuff open your mind to the possibility
- 00:06:45like
- 00:06:46really that you are none of these
- 00:06:51things not only that but open your mind
- 00:06:54to the possibility that you are not an
- 00:06:56experience at all
- 00:07:00you're not an experience you're not a
- 00:07:02thought you're not a feeling you're not
- 00:07:04an emotion you're not a belief and
- 00:07:06you're not an intuition and you're not a
- 00:07:12sense now what does this leave us with
- 00:07:17doesn't leave us with much because when
- 00:07:19I say experience the way I Define
- 00:07:22experience is
- 00:07:25everything I mean everything that's ever
- 00:07:28happened to you in your entire life from
- 00:07:30the moment you were
- 00:07:32born through till today all the decades
- 00:07:34that have passed everything that's ever
- 00:07:36happened to you all those things we
- 00:07:39might call those
- 00:07:41experiences there were sights and sounds
- 00:07:43and tastes and feelings and emotions and
- 00:07:45memories and beliefs and
- 00:07:49ideas all this kind of stuff right I'm
- 00:07:52calling all of that experience so what
- 00:07:54I'm asking you to do is to open your
- 00:07:57mind to the radical possibility that you
- 00:07:58are not an
- 00:08:06experience and I'm being serious here
- 00:08:09I'm not
- 00:08:12around can you do that can you just open
- 00:08:14your mind for even just a minute to the
- 00:08:17possibility that you are not an
- 00:08:20experience and therefore that you are
- 00:08:22not an
- 00:08:26object because an object is an
- 00:08:28experience
- 00:08:30you experience objects you're not a body
- 00:08:32or a brain or a mind because those are
- 00:08:34all experiences and you're not a soul
- 00:08:37because that's also an experience
- 00:08:38whatever you call
- 00:08:42Soul this is the hardest part of
- 00:08:46Enlightenment work is just getting to
- 00:08:49this stage right here where I'm trying
- 00:08:50to get you to I'm kind of belaboring the
- 00:08:52point but don't mistake how important
- 00:08:55this is I wouldn't just Bel labor it for
- 00:08:57no reason
- 00:08:59I want you to actually consider that
- 00:09:02anything you've experienced in your
- 00:09:03entire life is not actually what you
- 00:09:09are I don't want you to believe that I
- 00:09:11just want you to be open to the
- 00:09:12possibility that that might be the case
- 00:09:16there's a
- 00:09:18difference I'm actually going to guide
- 00:09:20you through a visualization here which
- 00:09:22will demonstrate this to you so you
- 00:09:23don't need to believe it but you do need
- 00:09:26to be open to it because if your mind is
- 00:09:28closed to it then we can't go anywhere
- 00:09:31you see your mind is already made up and
- 00:09:34then this whole conversation is
- 00:09:39useless seriously you are not an
- 00:09:43experience or an
- 00:09:45object or anything you've ever
- 00:09:49felt in your entire
- 00:09:53life if you can open your mind to that
- 00:09:55possibility then now we can begin the
- 00:09:58search
- 00:10:05this is where inquiry begins there's no
- 00:10:07inquiry until you get to this
- 00:10:12point it's very important that you grasp
- 00:10:16that inquiry is not what you do
- 00:10:20beforehand it's what you do after you've
- 00:10:22gotten to this
- 00:10:25point so I hope you're ready and let's
- 00:10:28begin the guided
- 00:10:31visualization this will take 30 to 40
- 00:10:34minutes so set aside the time make sure
- 00:10:36that you have some time and room to
- 00:10:38relax and to be with me here fully
- 00:10:45present go ahead and relax your
- 00:10:48body and breathe in some nice deep
- 00:10:51breaths as you get present and really
- 00:10:54focused on every word that I'm
- 00:10:57saying you can go ahead and close your
- 00:10:59eyes and just sit there
- 00:11:03comfortably alert and take a couple of
- 00:11:06nice deep breaths in with
- 00:11:27me good
- 00:11:30as you're focusing on your breathing
- 00:11:33with your eyes closed go ahead and just
- 00:11:35notice your whole body relaxing and all
- 00:11:37the tension melting
- 00:11:41away and then your breathing just let it
- 00:11:44be
- 00:11:45natural don't try to manipulate or
- 00:11:47control it and just sit there very
- 00:11:51comfortably and just listen to me
- 00:11:53talking to you I'm going to explain some
- 00:11:56things and I'm going to start to guide
- 00:11:57you through some of the things that I
- 00:11:58want you to to experience for
- 00:12:04yourself keep your mind
- 00:12:07open very very
- 00:12:10open but also be grounded in what's
- 00:12:14going on directly in your experience
- 00:12:16because I'm not going to ask you just to
- 00:12:18believe things but to experience
- 00:12:23them what we want to do what we're
- 00:12:25really interested in here is answering
- 00:12:28the question what exactly are
- 00:12:32you and where exactly are you
- 00:12:37located if you are a
- 00:12:40thing what thing exactly are you if you
- 00:12:44turn out to be an
- 00:12:45experience what experience exactly are
- 00:12:48you and where is this thing or this
- 00:12:51experience
- 00:12:54located
- 00:12:57exactly now now this might seem
- 00:13:01obvious might be so obvious that you've
- 00:13:03never questioned it in your entire
- 00:13:06life but what I want you to do is I want
- 00:13:08you to actually look with me from
- 00:13:10scratch at this
- 00:13:12issue don't take anything for granted
- 00:13:15here be very mindful of any assumptions
- 00:13:18you might have even assumptions that
- 00:13:21you've never been cognizant of before in
- 00:13:24your entire
- 00:13:25life I want you to question every single
- 00:13:28assumption
- 00:13:30about yourself and your
- 00:13:32existence that you've ever taken for
- 00:13:35granted even including the possibility
- 00:13:38that you
- 00:13:40exist or that you exist as a
- 00:13:43thing or that you exist as an
- 00:13:47experience let's not take anything for
- 00:13:49granted here we're actually going to
- 00:13:51look and we're going to see what is
- 00:13:53actually literally
- 00:13:55true and we're going to be very exact
- 00:13:57and very precise and very literal with
- 00:14:00the way that we look and
- 00:14:02observe our experience to see what's
- 00:14:06true we're not going to let our mind
- 00:14:08escape and be wishy-washy or
- 00:14:11vague because this is an important
- 00:14:14question right isn't it important to
- 00:14:16know what you
- 00:14:23are have you ever noticed that
- 00:14:26everything in your awareness changes
- 00:14:32think about this think to the very
- 00:14:33beginning of your life and just kind of
- 00:14:36scan through your life from the earliest
- 00:14:38memories you have when you were a child
- 00:14:41three or four or 5 years old or however
- 00:14:43old you were and uh think through all
- 00:14:45the stuff that happened to you as a kid
- 00:14:47as a teenager and then uh as an adult
- 00:14:50and all the way to the present
- 00:14:53day now what you immediately notice is
- 00:14:57that every thing in your
- 00:14:59experience has
- 00:15:01changed hasn't
- 00:15:04it notice what happened during the
- 00:15:07course of your whole life really all
- 00:15:10that happened was
- 00:15:12experience we're going to call
- 00:15:14everything that happened to you and
- 00:15:16experience there were sights there were
- 00:15:19sounds tastes and
- 00:15:21smells feelings physical
- 00:15:25touches differences in temperature there
- 00:15:27were all sorts of thoughts and ideas and
- 00:15:29beliefs and imaginations there was an
- 00:15:32internal dialogue in your
- 00:15:36head all of this recalling
- 00:15:39experience but I want you to
- 00:15:42notice that all of it has
- 00:15:47changed nothing has stayed
- 00:15:51constant has
- 00:15:55it we're going to take a much deeper
- 00:15:57look into this so don't believe me on it
- 00:16:00but be open to the possibility and it
- 00:16:02certainly seems reasonable that
- 00:16:04everything has changed even your body
- 00:16:06has
- 00:16:08changed what your body is now is not
- 00:16:10what it was when you were 6 years
- 00:16:13old or when you were 10 years
- 00:16:16old or when you were 15 years
- 00:16:18old very
- 00:16:21different all the cells in your body
- 00:16:24just from science we know all the cells
- 00:16:26in your body have changed too
- 00:16:33so that's interesting it's interesting
- 00:16:35that all these things have
- 00:16:37changed and yet we think that we're a
- 00:16:41thing and we think that we know who we
- 00:16:47are also notice that all your beliefs I
- 00:16:50mean not all your beliefs but many of
- 00:16:51your beliefs have
- 00:16:54changed the things you know have changed
- 00:16:59your knowledge has changed dra
- 00:17:01drastically over the
- 00:17:07decades so just notice
- 00:17:09that now what I want to suggest to you
- 00:17:13and we're just going to kind of take
- 00:17:13this as a premise it could be wrong but
- 00:17:16we'll just take it as a premise is that
- 00:17:18the following list of things is all that
- 00:17:20you've ever had of
- 00:17:22reality
- 00:17:24sight
- 00:17:25sound taste smell
- 00:17:29touch or
- 00:17:31feeling and
- 00:17:36thought that's
- 00:17:38it your entire reality from the moment
- 00:17:41you were born till today has been
- 00:17:43composed of only those six things
- 00:17:47basically in various combinations and of
- 00:17:50course in a lot of complex ways they
- 00:17:52were uh changing but this is basically
- 00:17:55the six channels that you're dealing
- 00:17:57with as a human being and all of this we
- 00:18:00tering
- 00:18:03experience now what we're going to do is
- 00:18:05we're going to go through and check each
- 00:18:07of these channels of experience and
- 00:18:11we're going to see do you exist in any
- 00:18:13one of these
- 00:18:15channels so let's take first a channel
- 00:18:18called
- 00:18:20site and the question is are you a
- 00:18:24site are you a visual experience so by
- 00:18:28visual experience I basically mean
- 00:18:30colors and
- 00:18:32shapes that's all that sight is composed
- 00:18:34of colors and shapes nothing
- 00:18:38else so right now if your eyes have been
- 00:18:40closed this whole time what I want you
- 00:18:43to do is I want you just to put your
- 00:18:45awareness on the fact that you only see
- 00:18:49Darkness because your eyes are
- 00:18:54closed and what I want you to do now is
- 00:18:56I want you to open your eyes
- 00:18:58so go ahead and open
- 00:19:01them and look around
- 00:19:04you now what you have is you see colors
- 00:19:07and you see shapes doesn't matter what
- 00:19:09they
- 00:19:10are you could be looking at what we
- 00:19:13would call your body or other physical
- 00:19:16objects in the room around you and all
- 00:19:18that's
- 00:19:19fine so now notice that you have all
- 00:19:21these colors and now go ahead and close
- 00:19:24your eyes
- 00:19:26again and notice that every every single
- 00:19:29color has
- 00:19:35changed if you want you can open your
- 00:19:37eyes
- 00:19:38again and notice that again it went from
- 00:19:41Darkness again to Colors all sorts of
- 00:19:44different colors and
- 00:19:47shapes and go ahead and close your eyes
- 00:19:49again and notice that all the colors and
- 00:19:51shapes have all completely changed not
- 00:19:54one of them has stayed the same and have
- 00:19:56all turned into some kind of dark color
- 00:19:58maybe a reddish tint color if you're
- 00:20:01looking at some lights with your eyes
- 00:20:02Lids
- 00:20:04closed and that all the shapes are gone
- 00:20:10too so what does this tell
- 00:20:14us it tells us that you cannot be a
- 00:20:21sight why because SES change all the
- 00:20:24time
- 00:20:28you change sight just by blinking your
- 00:20:32eyes you change
- 00:20:35sight so by definition you can't be a
- 00:20:39color or a
- 00:20:41shape because they're always in
- 00:20:46flux you
- 00:20:48see and what you are is you are a
- 00:20:50constant notice that
- 00:20:53basically from the moment you were born

- 00:20:59you are now the the constant There Was
- 00:21:02You So experience was changing but there
- 00:21:05was a constant the constant is you so
- 00:21:07we're looking for what that constant is
- 00:21:09right so what we've discovered here is
- 00:21:11that the constant is not colors or
- 00:21:16shapes now that's pretty interesting
- 00:21:18because notice that your body when you
- 00:21:20look at yourself in the mirror you tend
- 00:21:21to think of like well I am my body but
- 00:21:24let's be very clear about that you can't
- 00:21:26be the color of your body and you can't
- 00:21:29be the shape of your body or any other
- 00:21:32visual aspect of your body
- 00:21:36because it can
- 00:21:38change not only that but of course your
- 00:21:41body the way it looks has completely
- 00:21:43changed from when you were 6 years old
- 00:21:45to where you are now all of it has
- 00:21:49changed so that can't be fundamentally
- 00:21:52what you are you
- 00:21:55see good let's go on to the next Channel
- 00:21:58which is
- 00:22:00sound maybe what you are is a sound
- 00:22:04instead let's take a look are you a
- 00:22:10sound the sound channel is pretty easy
- 00:22:13to deal with because most people don't
- 00:22:16really think they're a
- 00:22:18sound seems rather silly you don't
- 00:22:20really believe you're a sound but let's
- 00:22:23just take a
- 00:22:25look and again put your attention on the
- 00:22:27fact that sounds are constantly
- 00:22:29changing the sound as I'm talking to you
- 00:22:32right now every single second I'm saying
- 00:22:33new sounds and these sounds are
- 00:22:36changing and whatever sounds you
- 00:22:38experienced today are different from the
- 00:22:39sounds you experienced yesterday and
- 00:22:41different from the sounds you
- 00:22:42experienced 10 years
- 00:22:45ago has there been a constant sound from
- 00:22:49the moment you were conscious at Birth
- 00:22:51to
- 00:22:52today take a
- 00:22:55look what you should discover is no
- 00:22:59there hasn't
- 00:23:00been sound always changes so just by
- 00:23:05very simple logic we can say that you
- 00:23:09can't be a
- 00:23:15sound cuz we could put you in a totally
- 00:23:18soundproof chamber and you would still
- 00:23:21exist right you don't believe you would
- 00:23:24die if your ears were blocked with wax
- 00:23:30or if you were born deaf you're not dead
- 00:23:34you're still alive you're still you
- 00:23:38basically so you can't be a
- 00:23:42sound now let's check the channel of
- 00:23:46taste this one's pretty easy because
- 00:23:49human beings have a very
- 00:23:52poor sense of taste compared to sound
- 00:23:56and
- 00:23:57sight but let's take a look for sake of
- 00:24:02comprehensiveness notice right now that
- 00:24:04whatever taste you have in your
- 00:24:08mouth you don't actually believe that
- 00:24:11that's you do
- 00:24:15you not only that but notice that that
- 00:24:20taste has changed it's always
- 00:24:22different the taste in your mouth is
- 00:24:24different after you've brushed your
- 00:24:26teeth after you've drank some coffee
- 00:24:29after you've uh kissed your
- 00:24:31spouse after you chewed some
- 00:24:34gum every single day your taste changes
- 00:24:38so you can't actually literally be a
- 00:24:40taste can
- 00:24:44you most people don't really believe
- 00:24:46their tastes anyways that's kind of
- 00:24:49silly so we're done with that channel
- 00:24:52let's move on to
- 00:24:54smell the channel of smell are you a SM
- 00:25:00smell human beings have an even poorer
- 00:25:03sense of smell than taste
- 00:25:05mostly so this one's also easy to deal
- 00:25:07with but let's take a look whatever
- 00:25:10you're smelling right now is that
- 00:25:13you literally is the smell
- 00:25:19you of course most people would say no
- 00:25:22that's rather silly how could I be a
- 00:25:25smell but just to be very comprehensive
- 00:25:28have also noticed that whatever smell
- 00:25:30you have now is not the smell you had
- 00:25:34yesterday or the day before or 10 years
- 00:25:37ago or when you were
- 00:25:39born smells are always changing there's
- 00:25:42really no such thing as a constant
- 00:25:47smell so what you are cannot be a smell
- 00:25:51because what you are is constant and a
- 00:25:55smell is never constant
- 00:26:00okay let's move on to the next Channel
- 00:26:02which is
- 00:26:04touch are you a
- 00:26:08touch now this one's a little trickier
- 00:26:10so we're going to break it up in two
- 00:26:12first let's consider outer touch what
- 00:26:15I'm going to call outer touch these are
- 00:26:17all
- 00:26:20the touches that sort of take place
- 00:26:22outside your body so if you put your
- 00:26:24hand on a on a cold can of Coca-Cola
- 00:26:29or if you put your hand near a fire
- 00:26:31those are like Sensations you feel
- 00:26:34outside your body on the surface of your
- 00:26:36skin this is what we're calling outer
- 00:26:39touch are you an outer
- 00:26:46touch are you a pressure on your skin so
- 00:26:51like the feeling of being cut by a knife
- 00:26:54or poked by a needle or if you're
- 00:26:57sitting on your chair or on your sofa
- 00:27:00right now then there's some sensation on
- 00:27:02your butt from the cushion that's
- 00:27:05pressure on you kind of from the
- 00:27:09outside are you any one of those
- 00:27:20Sensations take a close
- 00:27:24look notice that you are not any one of
- 00:27:27those
- 00:27:30sens what we would say is that you are
- 00:27:33experiencing those Sensations but those
- 00:27:36Sensations are not actually
- 00:27:38you
- 00:27:42right moreover notice again that these
- 00:27:45Sensations are
- 00:27:47very fluid and changing they're changing
- 00:27:51almost every
- 00:27:54minute there is no one single constant
- 00:27:57sensation
- 00:27:58that has
- 00:28:00been impinging on you from the
- 00:28:03outside your entire life that you could
- 00:28:07possibly identify with there's no
- 00:28:09pressure there's no hot or cold there's
- 00:28:11no sharpness there's no any kind of
- 00:28:14outer pressure or outer
- 00:28:19touch so that means that you can't
- 00:28:21possibly be an outer
- 00:28:26touch good good now let's consider the
- 00:28:29other component of touch which is what
- 00:28:32I'm going to call Inner
- 00:28:34feeling inner feeling is all the
- 00:28:36feelings you have inside your body these
- 00:28:37can be pains or it could be a warm
- 00:28:40sensation or cold sensation could be a
- 00:28:43internal
- 00:28:45pressure could be the feeling of your
- 00:28:47heart or your lungs or a tingly
- 00:28:51sensation behind your eyes or in your
- 00:28:53head or in your skull like maybe a
- 00:28:55headache
- 00:28:58or even the feeling of solidity inside
- 00:29:00your body all of these feelings these
- 00:29:02are inner feelings and also will include
- 00:29:04into this emotions so when you feel
- 00:29:07angry or sad or
- 00:29:10happy or sexually
- 00:29:13excited all of these are internal
- 00:29:18feelings so now let's take a real close
- 00:29:21look at this
- 00:29:23one are you an internal feeling
- 00:29:33this is probably the trickiest one of
- 00:29:34all so look very very
- 00:29:37carefully if you have a tendency to say
- 00:29:39that yes I am an internal feeling that's
- 00:29:42what I am then what I want you to do is
- 00:29:44I want you to identify very specifically
- 00:29:47which internal feeling are you exactly
- 00:29:58are you the feeling in your chest are
- 00:30:01you the feeling behind the back of your
- 00:30:04eyes in your skull are you literally
- 00:30:07that feeling is that what you actually
- 00:30:15are look at this very
- 00:30:18open-mindedly without any biases or
- 00:30:21preconceptions
- 00:30:30what you should notice is that you're
- 00:30:31actually not an inner
- 00:30:35feeling what we would say is that you
- 00:30:38feel an inner feeling and inner feeling
- 00:30:41happens to you but you are not literally
- 00:30:47it and also notice that inner feelings
- 00:30:51also change very frequently
- 00:30:58and often you're not conscious at all of
- 00:31:00what inner feelings are happening inside
- 00:31:03of
- 00:31:04you right now you've become conscious of
- 00:31:07inner feelings because I've focused your
- 00:31:10attention on that but chances are when
- 00:31:13you were sitting there and I was talking
- 00:31:14about other stuff you were not connected
- 00:31:17to your inner feelings very much at
- 00:31:21all if you do believe that you are an
- 00:31:23inner feeling take a look and notice has
- 00:31:26there ever been a moment in your life
- 00:31:28where that inner feeling didn't exist or
- 00:31:29you weren't conscious of
- 00:31:31it because remember if we're saying that
- 00:31:34you're an inner feeling that means that
- 00:31:35inner feeling must have been constant
- 00:31:37from the moment of your birth up till
- 00:31:40today because that's literally what you
- 00:31:42are and if that inner feeling ever stops
- 00:31:45existing you stop
- 00:31:49existing that's what it would mean for
- 00:31:51you to say that you are an inner
- 00:31:56feeling so take a look really
- 00:31:59carefully are you an inner
- 00:32:08feeling if you look carefully you should
- 00:32:11conclude that you're not because your
- 00:32:14inner feelings are always
- 00:32:17changing even Sensations for example in
- 00:32:19your chest or behind the back of your
- 00:32:22eyes these Sensations which you might
- 00:32:24identify with
- 00:32:28they're still always
- 00:32:30changing they're not
- 00:32:33constant they're
- 00:32:35animated they have degrees of severity
- 00:32:37and so forth and sometimes they're
- 00:32:39totally
- 00:32:42absent for example when you're
- 00:32:48asleep good now let's consider the final
- 00:32:51Channel which is
- 00:32:55thoughts are you a thought
- 00:33:01let's break this down into several
- 00:33:02components first let's consider your
- 00:33:04internal dialogue and what we might call
- 00:33:06your internal
- 00:33:08voice the way that you usually talk to
- 00:33:13yourself are you the internal voice take
- 00:33:16a look now the internal voice is
- 00:33:18something that we identify with
- 00:33:21usually automatically without even
- 00:33:23thinking about it much the inner voice
- 00:33:25feels like it's me
- 00:33:29but I want you just to look at this very
- 00:33:31objectively and just with very simple
- 00:33:35logic if you believe that you are the
- 00:33:38inner voice and that really feels like
- 00:33:41that's what you
- 00:33:43are that means that if the inner voice
- 00:33:47ever stopped
- 00:33:49speaking you would
- 00:33:54disappear that also means that the inner
- 00:33:56voice had to have been constantly
- 00:33:59speaking from the moment you were born
- 00:34:01up till
- 00:34:02today without ever
- 00:34:09stopping so are you the inner
- 00:34:17voice or are you the one who hears the
- 00:34:20inner voice notice the
- 00:34:24difference you probably want to say that
- 00:34:27no I'm the one one who hears the inner
- 00:34:29voice I'm not literally the inner
- 00:34:32voice cu the inner voice is not
- 00:34:39constant there are gaps between the
- 00:34:42inner
- 00:34:43voice you don't even have to be a very
- 00:34:46good meditator to be aware of
- 00:34:51that so you can't be the inner voice can
- 00:34:56you let's consider inner
- 00:35:01images notice that what you have many of
- 00:35:03your thoughts are visual
- 00:35:05thoughts you can picture an apple a car
- 00:35:10a tree a house a person your mom your
- 00:35:14dad your spouse you can picture all
- 00:35:17these things with your eyes
- 00:35:19closed these are all internal
- 00:35:22images you can also picture
- 00:35:25yourself you can picture your face
- 00:35:28with your eyes closed you can picture
- 00:35:30the back of your head with your eyes
- 00:35:32closed you can picture the silhouette of
- 00:35:35your
- 00:35:36body as though it was filmed by a camera
- 00:35:39from behind you with your eyes closed
- 00:35:42you can picture your arms in your your
- 00:35:44feet even though you can't see
- 00:35:49them you can picture very many
- 00:35:52things now the question is are you a
- 00:35:57picture
- 00:35:58is that what you literally
- 00:36:00are let's take a look really
- 00:36:04carefully and if you're going to say
- 00:36:06that yes I am a
- 00:36:08picture then I want you to be very clear
- 00:36:10and precise about which picture it is
- 00:36:13that you
- 00:36:17are notice that pictures are constantly
- 00:36:19changing in your mind so which picture
- 00:36:22are you are you the picture of your face
- 00:36:24is that what you are
- 00:36:29what if your face got disfigured and how
- 00:36:33it looked has
- 00:36:35changed would that change who you
- 00:36:39are most people would say
- 00:36:42no are you the picture of the outline of
- 00:36:45your
- 00:36:47body you might at first be tempted to
- 00:36:49say yes I am but then notice that if you
- 00:36:52lost an arm or a leg and it got
- 00:36:55amputated
- 00:37:00the picture in your mind would have to
- 00:37:03change and yet we would still say that
- 00:37:06you're basically you and that nothing
- 00:37:08really about you has changed you just
- 00:37:10lost an arm or a
- 00:37:14leg also notice that if you do identify
- 00:37:19with any image at all that means that
- 00:37:22that
- 00:37:22image has to have been
- 00:37:25constantly displayed in your mind
- 00:37:28from the moment you were born up till
- 00:37:30today without any
- 00:37:33interruptions do you find such an image
- 00:37:36in your
- 00:37:39mind or is every image in your mind
- 00:37:43changing all the time like every five
- 00:37:48seconds if you're like the average
- 00:37:50person if you're like me every 5 Seconds
- 00:37:52you have new images in your
- 00:37:54mind right picture purple elephant with
- 00:37:59polka
- 00:38:01dots see now you have that image in your
- 00:38:04mind and whatever you were thinking
- 00:38:06before you've stopped probably thinking
- 00:38:09about so notice that you're not an image
- 00:38:13in your mind that doesn't make very much
- 00:38:19sense and the final thing let's consider
- 00:38:22is the ey thought what I'm going to call
- 00:38:26the ey thought
- 00:38:29the thought in your mind that says this
- 00:38:31is
- 00:38:33me this is me here I am I I am here I
- 00:38:38exist so put your awareness on that
- 00:38:43aspect of your mind right now the eye
- 00:38:48thought and take a look and ask yourself
- 00:38:52are you the I
- 00:38:55thought now it seems like we're getting
- 00:38:57somewhere now it seems like we're really
- 00:38:59going deep we've gone through all the
- 00:39:01Clutter and now we've gotten to the very
- 00:39:03core of who you are you're this I
- 00:39:05thought
- 00:39:08right but wait a
- 00:39:11minute notice that this I thought if you
- 00:39:14believe you are the I thought that the I
- 00:39:17thought isn't constantly
- 00:39:24present there are many moments in your
- 00:39:27day where where you have no thoughts
- 00:39:28about
- 00:39:29yourself where there is no ey thought
- 00:39:32where there is no internal
- 00:39:36dialogue most obviously when you're
- 00:39:39asleep but also when you're tired or
- 00:39:42even when you're talking someone or
- 00:39:43you're playing a video game or you're
- 00:39:45watching a movie you're not thinking
- 00:39:46about yourself there is no ey
- 00:39:49thought so if what you actually
- 00:39:51literally are is an I
- 00:39:55thought that ey thought
- 00:39:58would have to have been constantly
- 00:40:00active from the moment you were born
- 00:40:02until
- 00:40:04today and that's clearly not the
- 00:40:08case the I thought is not even active
- 00:40:10for 24 hours let alone for decades at a
- 00:40:17time so now it gets a little tricky
- 00:40:21because we're starting to run out of
- 00:40:23things that you could
- 00:40:26be what is is
- 00:40:29left we've eliminated sights sounds
- 00:40:32smells tastes touches feelings internal
- 00:40:35external
- 00:40:37ones we've eliminated all sorts of
- 00:40:39thoughts and internal dialogue what is
- 00:40:43left you might say well Leo what I am is
- 00:40:46I'm the
- 00:40:47body I'm the entire collection of all of
- 00:40:50these
- 00:40:53things but notice that what the body is
- 00:40:57what you're calling the body in this
- 00:40:59case is just either a feeling or a
- 00:41:02thought an image in your
- 00:41:05mind or a combination of these occurring
- 00:41:11simultaneously and notice that this
- 00:41:13combination that you're calling the body
- 00:41:16isn't constantly
- 00:41:24active you might also say well Leo Maybe
- 00:41:27not the body maybe what I am is I just
- 00:41:29have this vague sense that I exist I'm
- 00:41:32not quite sure what I am but I just have
- 00:41:34this intuition I'm a very intuitive
- 00:41:36person and intuitively I just know that
- 00:41:38I'm I'm a soul I'm a sort of
- 00:41:40Consciousness I'm here I'm present I'm
- 00:41:42aware I'm this living entity I have
- 00:41:45senscience I have this intuition so I'm
- 00:41:48this intuitive
- 00:41:50thing but notice that whatever you call
- 00:41:55intuition very carefully examine what
- 00:41:57that is be very clear about
- 00:42:01it what you'll notice is that an
- 00:42:03intuition is just a
- 00:42:06feeling in your
- 00:42:08body or it's a
- 00:42:11thought or
- 00:42:15both and also notice that this intuition
- 00:42:18is also not constantly
- 00:42:25active so this intuition cannot be
- 00:42:31you now you might say well Leo what I am
- 00:42:34maybe is not an intuition but I'm just
- 00:42:36I'm there behind the scenes you know all
- 00:42:38this stuff is happening to me but I'm
- 00:42:40just there behind the scenes somewhere
- 00:42:41I'm not really sure what I am I'm just
- 00:42:43behind the scenes I just know I
- 00:42:46am okay well what I want you to notice
- 00:42:48is that sense that you are behind the
- 00:42:52scenes that what that actually literally
- 00:42:55is is a thought thought or a
- 00:43:03feeling if there were no thoughts or
- 00:43:05feelings there would be no sense of you
- 00:43:08behind the
- 00:43:14scenes so we've run out of
- 00:43:18room we've run out of
- 00:43:23channels notice that as much as you look
- 00:43:26as hard as you
- 00:43:28look and you could sit there and I could
- 00:43:31give you 10 days of straight sitting and
- 00:43:35looking you cannot find what I'm going
- 00:43:40to call The Source
- 00:43:46self what you fundamentally believe that
- 00:43:50you are is not a body or a mind or a
- 00:43:55brain or some neuron or a feeling or an
- 00:43:58Intuition or a thought or any of this
- 00:44:00kind of stuff what you fundamentally
- 00:44:02believe you are is that you're the
- 00:44:05perceiver the
- 00:44:07experiencer of all of these experiences
- 00:44:12or
- 00:44:14perceptions
- 00:44:16right doesn't that feel right that what
- 00:44:19you are is you're the
- 00:44:24perceiver but notice that this perceiver
- 00:44:26no matter how much we look and we try to
- 00:44:29pinpoint where is this
- 00:44:32perceiver you can't actually find
- 00:44:39it this is what we're calling the source
- 00:44:42self is this
- 00:44:47perceiver what we say is we say I am
- 00:44:50experiencing the body I am experiencing
- 00:44:54the ey thought I am having an intuition
- 00:44:57right because
- 00:44:59I is the perceiver that's perceiving all
- 00:45:02of
- 00:45:08experience notice though that this
- 00:45:10perceiver or Source self is itself not
- 00:45:14an
- 00:45:22experience now that's very odd
- 00:45:28because on the one hand you feel like
- 00:45:30you've experienced all this stuff in
- 00:45:32life and all you have of life is
- 00:45:35experience there is nothing else to life
- 00:45:38but
- 00:45:40experience so become conscious of that
- 00:45:43but also now become conscious of the
- 00:45:45fact that you are not an
- 00:45:48experience what you are physically
- 00:45:51metaphysically existentially is not an
- 00:45:54experience and cannot be an experience
- 00:45:56because every single experience you've
- 00:45:58ever had in your
- 00:45:59life has
- 00:46:01changed and will change and changes on a
- 00:46:05momentto moment
- 00:46:13basis so the question is what actually
- 00:46:17are
- 00:46:18you because right now if you've been
- 00:46:20following with me what you are is a
- 00:46:23question mark
- 00:46:27I mean we could say that you're a
- 00:46:28perceiver but what this perceiver is we
- 00:46:30have no clue or where it is we don't
- 00:46:33even know where it's located you might
- 00:46:34say well it's located in my skull
- 00:46:37obviously or maybe in my chest or in my
- 00:46:40throat or somewhere in the body but
- 00:46:44that's not how how can you be sure you
- 00:46:46haven't even figured out what it is and
- 00:46:49you certainly haven't located it because
- 00:46:51if you located it you could tell me what
- 00:46:52it is
- 00:46:57and if you do happen to locate something
- 00:46:58and you say well Leo that's
- 00:47:01it well what you're pointing at is
- 00:47:04another
- 00:47:06experience you don't actually believe
- 00:47:07you're that thing you believe you're the
- 00:47:10perceiver of that thing so notice that
- 00:47:12this is a very slippery game that we
- 00:47:17play is that whatever we point to by
- 00:47:20definition cannot be
- 00:47:21us because it's an experience and we're
- 00:47:24not an experience we're the one pering
- 00:47:27the
- 00:47:32experience your mind should be opening
- 00:47:34up now to a very interesting possibility
- 00:47:38and this possibility is that it's never
- 00:47:40really Aur to you to question what you
- 00:47:42are existentially before in your entire
- 00:47:46life you've just kind of assumed that
- 00:47:48you're there and that you exist and that
- 00:47:50you are something tangible and very real
- 00:47:54and yet when you actually look into the
- 00:47:56matter
- 00:47:57as hard as you try and you can try for
- 00:47:59hundreds of hours you will discover that
- 00:48:02you cannot find
- 00:48:07yourself so could it be that what you
- 00:48:12are is something very different than you
- 00:48:20assumed let's examine some of your core
- 00:48:24assumptions core assumption number one
- 00:48:26is that you
- 00:48:31exist it's almost Unthinkable to
- 00:48:33question this assumption because well
- 00:48:35here you are holding the Assumption so
- 00:48:38obviously you exist right well let's
- 00:48:40just be very open-minded and just take
- 00:48:42this as an
- 00:48:44assumption so assumption number one is
- 00:48:46that you
- 00:48:47exist assumption number two is that you
- 00:48:50are an
- 00:48:52object or a thing that can be found
- 00:48:57that can be
- 00:49:00located that has a
- 00:49:06shape and assumption number three is
- 00:49:08that you are located in
- 00:49:13space right you assume that you're
- 00:49:16located
- 00:49:17somewhere you're not without
- 00:49:22location so those are three core
- 00:49:24assumptions you hold
- 00:49:27now my question to you if you're very
- 00:49:29open-minded could any of these
- 00:49:31assumptions be
- 00:49:36wrong how can you be sure that these
- 00:49:40assumptions are all
- 00:49:45true now you might say well Leo these
- 00:49:48are some very very basic self-evident
- 00:49:50assumptions they can't be
- 00:49:53otherwise but I want you to consider
- 00:49:55very carefully that
- 00:49:57we're looking into the very nature of
- 00:50:00your
- 00:50:01existence we're looking to something
- 00:50:03very very
- 00:50:04existentially in a very fundamental
- 00:50:07basic way we're looking at the very
- 00:50:08basic building blocks of
- 00:50:11life so your assumptions about what
- 00:50:13could or couldn't be
- 00:50:16true be careful about that because those
- 00:50:19are based on everyday normal
- 00:50:24experience they are not based upon on
- 00:50:27deep existential
- 00:50:34investigation and also notice that you
- 00:50:37have no frame of reference in this
- 00:50:40investigation because what we're calling
- 00:50:42you yourself what you are it's not like
- 00:50:45you've been a hundred different human
- 00:50:48beings so you have no frame of reference
- 00:50:51because you have no experience you've
- 00:50:53never been someone else have you you've
- 00:50:56only been
- 00:50:57yourself so we're dealing
- 00:51:00with one
- 00:51:03example the only
- 00:51:08example so we can't really know what's
- 00:51:12probable or improbable what's realistic
- 00:51:16or what's far-fetched
- 00:51:18because we only have one example and we
- 00:51:21can't compare it to anything else and
- 00:51:24what you are is not comparable to a
- 00:51:27chair or a car or a tree or a planet or
- 00:51:31a Galaxy or a molecule or anything else
- 00:51:34like that because those are all again
- 00:51:40experiences what you are is a very
- 00:51:42different
- 00:51:45thing so could it be that your very
- 00:51:48nature is radically different from
- 00:51:52ordinary everyday objects
- 00:51:59and could it be that some of these
- 00:52:00assumptions you hold that you are an
- 00:52:02object that you're located in space and
- 00:52:04even that you exist that some of these
- 00:52:06assumptions are
- 00:52:10groundless and just
- 00:52:13assumptions made carelessly without
- 00:52:16careful investigation into whether they
- 00:52:18are true or
- 00:52:22not what I want you to consider is the

- 00:52:28birth that you were born and people
- 00:52:32starting with your parents started
- 00:52:33pointing at you and saying that's you
- 00:52:37the body the brain the mind this is you
- 00:52:41and you went through school and you went
- 00:52:43to college and you interacted with all
- 00:52:44your friends and everyone assumed this
- 00:52:47from the very
- 00:52:49beginning but all of this was a mistake
- 00:52:52you've been misled by people who were
- 00:52:54themselves misled and never took the
- 00:52:56time to look very carefully into who
- 00:52:58they were they just assumed that they
- 00:53:01were a body a mind and a
- 00:53:06brain this isn't so far-fetched because
- 00:53:09after all you do acknowledge that
- 00:53:11indoctrination is possible especially
- 00:53:15with young human beings you know that if
- 00:53:17we take a child and we indoctrinate this
- 00:53:20child from the very moment he is born
- 00:53:23and we tell him some religious ideology
- 00:53:26or some political philosophy that this
- 00:53:29child without knowing any better if he
- 00:53:31grows up in in that environment he will
- 00:53:34believe
- 00:53:36unquestionably whatever he's been taught
- 00:53:39and that will get programmed and sort of
- 00:53:41imprinted into his mind and it'll be
- 00:53:43very difficult for him to see the world
- 00:53:45in any other way so now what I want you
- 00:53:48to do as part of this visualization is I
- 00:53:49want you to actually imagine that this
- 00:53:51child is you and that when you were born
- 00:53:55and growing up and all the way up to
- 00:53:57today you have been
- 00:54:00indoctrinated not in a malicious way but
- 00:54:02in an unconscious
- 00:54:03way with a ideology that what you are is
- 00:54:08an object a body a mind and a
- 00:54:12brain and that actually this is not
- 00:54:24true just open your mind to that POS
- 00:54:26ability remember this is just a thought
- 00:54:27experiment I'm not telling you to
- 00:54:29believe me I'm not saying this is
- 00:54:30absolutely true I'm just
- 00:54:32saying just imagine it for the next few
- 00:54:35minutes as a thought
- 00:54:39experiment and now again look very
- 00:54:42closely keep your eyes still closed look
- 00:54:45very closely inside yourself and try to
- 00:54:48find what we're calling the source self
- 00:54:52the
- 00:54:53perceiver of all your experiences try to
- 00:54:56find
- 00:55:03you notice that anything that you grasp
- 00:55:08on to as you isn't
- 00:55:13you notice how the mind scrambles and
- 00:55:16tries to cling to one thing after
- 00:55:18another thing after another thing but
- 00:55:20that nothing that it clings to is
- 00:55:22actually you
- 00:55:28it's like sand that slips through your
- 00:55:36fingers and now here's the critical step
- 00:55:39of this
- 00:55:40entire inquiry process make sure you do
- 00:55:44this right
- 00:55:46here again look for the source self
- 00:55:49really try to pinpoint what you are what
- 00:55:53are you physically existentially
- 00:55:55metaphysically
- 00:55:58like
- 00:56:00really No Nonsense no Hocus
- 00:56:03Pocus no philosophy no religious
- 00:56:07just what are you right now in
- 00:56:09your direct
- 00:56:11experience find
- 00:56:21yourself and notice again that you
- 00:56:24failed you failed to find
- 00:56:30yourself now here's the kicker listen
- 00:56:33very
- 00:56:34close right in the moment of failing to
- 00:56:36find yourself what I want you to notice
- 00:56:39is that actually you're not
- 00:56:42failing when you're grasping and it
- 00:56:44feels like you're grasping at empty
- 00:56:47air and that nothing you grasp is
- 00:56:49actually you and that what you are is
- 00:56:53intangible notice that happening right
- 00:56:55now for you and it feels like you're
- 00:56:58failing to grasp on you're still you're
- 00:57:00looking you're looking for an object to
- 00:57:02grasp on
- 00:57:04to what I want you to notice is that
- 00:57:07actually you're not
- 00:57:08failing you found yourself what you are
- 00:57:12is you are this empty
- 00:57:24nothing that you're grasping inside
- 00:57:29of but you're telling yourself that
- 00:57:32can't be me I have to be a
- 00:57:39thing and I what I want you to open your
- 00:57:42mind to is to the possibility that you
- 00:57:45are purely
- 00:57:50nothing you
- 00:57:52exist but you exist as nothing
- 00:57:59and that there is no content or
- 00:58:02experience that is you and that it will
- 00:58:05never ever be found because what you are
- 00:58:08is you are nothing you are it that is
- 00:58:12you that is real that is as real as real
- 00:58:18gets and that this
- 00:58:21nothingness it
- 00:58:23exists and not only does it exist but it
- 00:58:26is also
- 00:58:29self-aware it is an inherently
- 00:58:31self-aware
- 00:58:35nothingness now notice that whatever
- 00:58:38image you might have or opinion or idea
- 00:58:40you might have of this nothingness that
- 00:58:42is not nothingness that's not what I'm
- 00:58:44talking about what I'm telling you is to
- 00:58:47be actually
- 00:58:50become that which you have been failing
- 00:58:52to find
- 00:58:57become it you are
- 00:59:00it there's really nothing for you to do
- 00:59:02here because you are it you've always
- 00:59:04been it it's the only one constant
- 00:59:07that's existed from the moment you were
- 00:59:08born to
- 00:59:10today in fact it's existed before you
- 00:59:13were even
- 00:59:20born this nothing is not Darkness or
- 00:59:22Blackness don't confuse nothing with
- 00:59:25that
- 00:59:27this nothing is not also your idea of
- 00:59:30nothing or an experience of nothing
- 00:59:33remember that anything you experience is
- 00:59:36not
- 00:59:37nothing what I'm talking about here is
- 00:59:40actual honest to God
- 00:59:44nothing it is not an
- 00:59:47experience you cannot grasp it with your
- 00:59:50mind you cannot think about it
- 00:59:53cognitively
- 00:59:56this nothing is not an object it is not
- 00:59:59a
- 00:59:59thing it is not located in any
- 01:00:04space it has no cartisian
- 01:00:08coordinates it is not big it is not
- 01:00:11small it is not tall it is not short it
- 01:00:14is not wide it is not thin it is not
- 01:00:19solid it is not
- 01:00:22empty it has no color it has no shape it
- 01:00:25has no smell no taste no
- 01:00:31anything this nothing instead of being
- 01:00:35located it is an infinite
- 01:00:41field so try to be no don't just imagine
- 01:00:45actually become the infinite nothing
- 01:00:48field that you are this field is
- 01:00:52self-aware all experience occurs within
- 01:00:55this field
- 01:00:58the field itself is not an
- 01:01:00experience experience is what occurs
- 01:01:03inside the
- 01:01:08field and this is what you actually
- 01:01:12are physically metaphysically and
- 01:01:16existentially this is what you are you
- 01:01:18are a self-aware field of
- 01:01:21nothingness that stretches out to
- 01:01:23Infinity
- 01:01:26and has no end and no beginning and no
- 01:01:32boundary and is absolutely
- 01:01:52constant just take a moment to bask in
- 01:01:54that
- 01:01:57let whatever you're
- 01:02:01experiencing be
- 01:02:05okay don't try to force anything or
- 01:02:07change
- 01:02:08anything just be open to whatever comes
- 01:02:11to you even if what comes to you is not
- 01:02:14something that you
- 01:02:15want or expected
- 01:02:37don't try to fake the experience of
- 01:02:44nothingness either it came to you or it
- 01:02:46didn't let either way be okay
- 01:02:58good now go ahead and open your eyes and
- 01:03:01that's the end of the guided
- 01:03:05visualization but I still have a few
- 01:03:08things that I want to tell to you so
- 01:03:10don't end the episode
- 01:03:14yet two things happened here either you
- 01:03:17did have a direct experience of
- 01:03:20nothingness or you
- 01:03:22didn't now if you didn't have a direct
- 01:03:25experience of nothingness don't
- 01:03:28worry it's
- 01:03:31fine most people will not have a direct
- 01:03:35experience of nothingness from doing
- 01:03:36this just
- 01:03:37once I have done way over a thousand
- 01:03:41hours of this type of
- 01:03:43work and only once out of those let's
- 01:03:47say thousand hours I don't even know how
- 01:03:48many hours I've lost
- 01:03:50track only once have I had a direct
- 01:03:53experience
- 01:03:56so it can be a rare
- 01:03:59thing and it can take a lot of work to
- 01:04:02just get to the point where you can open
- 01:04:03your mind up sufficiently where you can
- 01:04:07even be open to this experience the
- 01:04:09problem is that most people minds are
- 01:04:11way too closed to even get close to
- 01:04:14having this
- 01:04:16experience now I'm using the word
- 01:04:18experience because there's no other word
- 01:04:19that we have in the English
- 01:04:22language so I'm calling it an experience
- 01:04:25even though it's not really an
- 01:04:28experience now if you did have some kind
- 01:04:31of direct experience of this nothing of
- 01:04:35what you actually
- 01:04:36are then
- 01:04:38congratulations don't freak out it's
- 01:04:41normal to be scared when you have this
- 01:04:43experience for the first time in your
- 01:04:44life it's a very radical experience
- 01:04:47because you've never experienced
- 01:04:49yourself in your entire life until
- 01:04:52now that's a huge accomplishment
- 01:04:54congratulations
- 01:04:57it can be scary because this nothingness
- 01:05:00is very radically different from what
- 01:05:02you've believed you were and you've been
- 01:05:04very very
- 01:05:06misled for the entirety of your life
- 01:05:09it's like you've awoken for the first
- 01:05:11time in your life it's a life
- 01:05:13transforming
- 01:05:17experience don't freak out it's not a
- 01:05:20negative experience it's a very positive
- 01:05:22experience but it can seem negative from
- 01:05:25the ego point of view because it's very
- 01:05:27threatening to your old way of looking
- 01:05:30at the
- 01:05:33world take the time to clarify what you
- 01:05:38experienced here if you did experience
- 01:05:40something actually clarify this
- 01:05:42nothingness what is it is it really you
- 01:05:45take a time to look at it write it down
- 01:05:48if you need to if you had something
- 01:05:50important occur for you because the
- 01:05:53clarification of it really helps for you
- 01:05:55to solidify in your own mind what this
- 01:05:58thing was it's a very mysterious and
- 01:06:01paradoxical
- 01:06:07thing if you didn't have an experience
- 01:06:09like most of you probably didn't then
- 01:06:12just keep
- 01:06:13noticing that if you look and you try to
- 01:06:16locate yourself you actually
- 01:06:19can't you can't find yourself there's a
- 01:06:22reason for that it's because you're not
- 01:06:24an object and you're not located in
- 01:06:28space keep questioning why you assume
- 01:06:31that you are an
- 01:06:34object why would you assume that is that
- 01:06:37just something you heard from your
- 01:06:38parents from your teachers is that just
- 01:06:41something that seems reasonable to you
- 01:06:44seems intuitive to you is that something
- 01:06:46that just science told
- 01:06:48you well just keep in mind that all
- 01:06:50these people they may not know who they
- 01:06:53are either so the things they tell you
- 01:06:56and the assumptions you pick up from our
- 01:06:58culture could be very flawed
- 01:07:01assumptions after all if you were born
- 01:07:032000 years ago chances are you had the
- 01:07:06assumption that the Earth is
- 01:07:09flat so our
- 01:07:12culture dramatically influences our
- 01:07:15assumptions about reality and don't
- 01:07:18think that just because we're living in
- 01:07:19a modern scientific era full of
- 01:07:23technology that we are immune
- 01:07:26to wrong assumptions about the core
- 01:07:29existential nature of reality that is
- 01:07:32something that as a culture and even as
- 01:07:35a
- 01:07:38science we still haven't
- 01:07:42conquered we have a long way to go
- 01:07:44before we conquer that as a collective
- 01:07:48culture that's why it takes an extremely
- 01:07:51radically open mind
- 01:07:55what I'm claiming though is that this
- 01:07:58practice here is a very profound
- 01:07:59practice you can do this by yourself you
- 01:08:01can rewatch this episode many many times
- 01:08:03you can listen to it I encourage you to
- 01:08:05do it hundreds thousands of times until
- 01:08:08you break
- 01:08:10through and discover empirically that
- 01:08:13you are nothing because this is not a
- 01:08:17theory of mine this is not something I
- 01:08:19just concocted sitting there in my room
- 01:08:21like oh what kind of interesting
- 01:08:23metaphysical mumbo jumbo I come up to
- 01:08:26just tell people that they could believe
- 01:08:28that's not what I'm doing here uh I'm
- 01:08:31claiming that this is an empirical
- 01:08:33discovery that you can
- 01:08:35make if you are open-minded enough
- 01:08:38that's really all it takes is just
- 01:08:40radical open-mindedness and then just
- 01:08:41persistence with looking looking looking
- 01:08:43looking looking looking looking and
- 01:08:46not giving way to
- 01:08:52distraction this nothingness that you
- 01:08:54are is the most profound thing that you
- 01:08:57can discover in all of
- 01:08:59life this nothingness is
- 01:09:02eternal which means that it exists
- 01:09:04outside of time and space time and space
- 01:09:08are conceptual constructs that occur
- 01:09:11within this
- 01:09:14nothingness these are very radical ideas
- 01:09:18they're more than ideas they're actually
- 01:09:20realities but the danger is that you
- 01:09:22take them as ideas and beliefs and as
- 01:09:24soon as you
- 01:09:25do you're nowhere you're back
- 01:09:31in the delusion of your
- 01:09:34mind this nothingness is eternal and
- 01:09:38it's also
- 01:09:39self-aware so this nothingness don't
- 01:09:41confuse it with some existential Bleak
- 01:09:44depressing nothingness this nothingness
- 01:09:46is the most Divine beautiful awe
- 01:09:50inspiring miraculous thing that you can
- 01:09:53discover it's not a thing but we have no
- 01:09:56words in the English language for not a
- 01:10:01thing other than nothingness you see how
- 01:10:04it works it's
- 01:10:07self-aware but it's not a human
- 01:10:10being it's not a molecule it's not an
- 01:10:12atom it's not matter it's not energy
- 01:10:14it's not Spirit or Soul what you might
- 01:10:17call I mean you could call it that but
- 01:10:20uh that just really gets you lost in
- 01:10:21labels and ideas that aren't very
- 01:10:23helpful
- 01:10:30this is the nety nety
- 01:10:34method old old old ancient
- 01:10:37method all you're doing here is you're
- 01:10:39just sitting you're trying to find what
- 01:10:42you actually are and you keep failing
- 01:10:45over and over and over and over and over
- 01:10:47again and you're going to fail tens of
- 01:10:49thousands if not hundreds of thousands
- 01:10:51of times until your brain can't take it
- 01:10:54anymore it becomes too painful and
- 01:10:56finally what happens is that there is a
- 01:10:58surrender and you surrender to the fact
- 01:11:00that the thing you were not finding is
- 01:11:02actually
- 01:11:04you you can't find it because you assume
- 01:11:08that you're something and what you are
- 01:11:10is nothing so it's like you're looking
- 01:11:13for a needle in the hay
- 01:11:17stack and the needle turns out to
- 01:11:21be the air
- 01:11:26the empty
- 01:11:28air that is between the the hay
- 01:11:36stack but that can take a lot of work to
- 01:11:39crack that nut can take a lot of work to
- 01:11:42crack so I encourage you to keep at it
- 01:11:46keep your faith keep going for it
- 01:11:48remember this is not a belief system
- 01:11:50this is an empirical discovery that
- 01:11:52anyone can make including you

- 01:13:06glance upon this nothingness if you have
- 01:13:08that privilege in your life and you do
- 01:13:10the work to get it then uh you will know
- 01:13:14what the word awesome
- 01:13:16means and until
