- 00:03:02Dynasty and although it's a tourist spot
- 00:03:04now these hoks are still inhabited by
- 00:03:06people so it's good to stay quiet and
- 00:03:09respectful when you explore if you
- 00:03:11rented hanok earlier this is one of the
- 00:03:13most popular spots to take pictures at

- 00:03:29and day one or two if you follow this
- 00:03:31itinerary is there will be the most
- 00:03:33options on these days and to be honest
- 00:03:35you don't have to stay here for too long
- 00:03:37I just have a little look around check
- 00:03:39out any shops or cafes you're into and
- 00:03:42the view up top and then walk back down
- 00:03:44and if you're getting hungry at this
- 00:03:45point there are little restaurants and
- 00:03:47cafes that you can stop at and now it's
- 00:03:49time to head over to one of Korea's most
- 00:03:51important Buddhist temples chesa which
- 00:03:54is just west of insadong and about 50
- 00:03:56minutes by foot
- 00:04:01chesa is the center of Korean Buddhism
- 00:04:03constructed in the 14th century it
- 00:04:05became the district head Temple of the
- 00:04:07CH order and the temple is still used to
- 00:04:09this day so it's important to be
- 00:04:11respectful of those who come for
- 00:04:13religious purposes and admire the beauty
- 00:04:15of the architecture and the three Golden
- 00:04:17Buddha statues inside it's the perfect
- 00:04:19spot to feel peace and Harmony all in
- 00:04:21the middle of this giant mega City also
- 00:04:24the pine tree you can see in the
- 00:04:25courtyard is over 450 years old and it's
- 00:04:28usually decorated beautifully to match
- 00:04:30the temple if you're in Solo around
- 00:04:32Buddha's birthday which falls in May
- 00:04:34every year there are lanterns everywhere
- 00:04:36just like this and they hold events here
- 00:04:38as well there's also a gift shop that
- 00:04:40sells various Buddhist Goods such as
- 00:04:41prayer bead bracelets and necklaces and
- 00:04:44the street just outside of it sells a
- 00:04:45lot as well you can also do a temple
- 00:04:47stay here and across the street is the
- 00:04:49temple stay Center and once you're
- 00:04:51finished sightseeing here it's time to
- 00:04:53walk south about 8 minutes to the chungy
- 00:04:55Chun stream
- 00:04:57[Music]
- 00:05:00the Tongan stream is almost 11 km that
- 00:05:02originates in susong Valley in inwang
- 00:05:05xan and connects all the way across
- 00:05:07downtown soul to the famous Han River
- 00:05:09there used to be an elevated freeway
- 00:05:10called the chungi expressway which was
- 00:05:12built after a huge economic boom after
- 00:05:15the Korean War and was disassembled in
- 00:05:172003 as part of an urban renewal project
- 00:05:20and this is when the stream was restored
- 00:05:22and the walkway was completed in 2005
- 00:05:25which transformed this area completely
- 00:05:27and resulted in a big boost in tourism
- 00:05:28and the surrounding chungo district and
- 00:05:31by this point you're probably starting
- 00:05:32to tire out a bit so it's time to relax
- 00:05:34and Chong Chan is perfect for that as
- 00:05:36it's below the busy streets giving it a
- 00:05:38nice quiet and peaceful Vibe take a seat
- 00:05:41on the edge of the river and just people
- 00:05:42watch and when you have the energy start
- 00:05:44walking East and check out some of the
- 00:05:46chungo hardware Alleyways just north of
- 00:05:48it where you can see how things used to
- 00:05:50be done in Soul where they sell all
- 00:05:52sorts of hardware and gadgets some
- 00:05:54Modern and some from the past and it's
- 00:05:56just great to watch everyone working and
- 00:05:58keeping these older Alleyways alive live
- 00:06:00just make sure not to get in their way
- 00:06:02and then right beside the Alleyways to
- 00:06:03the east is the seun plaza this was the
- 00:06:06shopping arcade for electronics before
- 00:06:08yongan the most famous area for
- 00:06:10electronics in Soul that's also starting
- 00:06:12to age seun Plaza was built in 1968 and
- 00:06:16it's a blast of the past with some
- 00:06:17really old karaoke machines radios
- 00:06:20cameras and other gadgets that give off
- 00:06:23a really cool retro Vibe if you go up to
- 00:06:25the second floor there's a walkway that
- 00:06:27you can walk around outside a bit on
- 00:06:29with some really cool old signs for
- 00:06:30electronics and some nice views too
- 00:06:33including a view of the rooftops of the
- 00:06:35hardware Alleyway we just went through
- 00:06:37and you really get a sense of just how
- 00:06:38dense they are I really hope that these
- 00:06:40types of views don't go away in Soul as
- 00:06:42they're some of my favorite parts of the
- 00:06:44city and by this point you're probably
- 00:06:46starting to get a bit hungry for dinner
- 00:06:48and it's time to head to kuang Jang
- 00:06:49Market which we can just see past the
- 00:06:51construction here and it's just about a
- 00:06:535minute walk east of seun
- 00:06:55[Music]
- 00:06:57Plaza Kang Jong Market is one of the the
- 00:06:59oldest and largest traditional markets
- 00:07:01in all of South Korea with more than
- 00:07:035,000 shops and 20,000 employees and it
- 00:07:06was started in 1905 when the Japanese
- 00:07:08took control of namon market during the
- 00:07:10occupation of Korea during this time a
- 00:07:13group of private Korean investors
- 00:07:14decided to create a new market not under
- 00:07:17Japanese control and founded tongu
- 00:07:19Market in 1905 which eventually became
- 00:07:21kuanga Market as we know it today in
- 00:07:241960 here you can find everything from
- 00:07:26clothes Agricultural and seafood
- 00:07:28products and is now most well known for
- 00:07:30its food stalls which line a massive
- 00:07:32section of the market it's especially
- 00:07:34known for pindo or mung bean pancakes
- 00:07:37and now that the market has developed a
- 00:07:39tourist reputation the food stalls here
- 00:07:41aren't exactly cheap but as a tourist
- 00:07:43with limited Korean skills this is one
- 00:07:45of the only spots in the city that will
- 00:07:47give you this traditional almost hectic
- 00:07:49atmosphere without having to go too far
- 00:07:51out of your comfort zone so grab dinner
- 00:07:53here if you want or in the surrounding
- 00:07:55area and leave a little bit of room as
- 00:07:57there's an optional end to the day that
- 00:07:58you really won't regret if you're in the
- 00:08:00mood for a beer and it's about a
- 00:08:0250-minute walk to the Ojo nogari alley
- 00:08:04and if you're ever getting tired on this
- 00:08:06trip and want to catch a taxy instead of
- 00:08:08walking you just need the apps cacao
- 00:08:10maps and cacao tea and click the cacao
- 00:08:12Maps address located in the description
- 00:08:14and just press get directions public
- 00:08:16transportation and then scroll down to
- 00:08:18the cacao te icon and you can easily
- 00:08:20take a taxi to your next
- 00:08:24destination we're going to uo nogari
- 00:08:27allei now which is located just in
- 00:08:29inside the Alleyways near ujido SGA
- 00:08:31station xf3 and gets absolutely
- 00:08:33jam-packed with people eating nogari or
- 00:08:35dried young poock and drinking beer at
- 00:08:38Manson hop which has been around since
- 00:08:40the 1980s it's an absolutely amazing
- 00:08:42atmosphere that's unique to soul and
- 00:08:44although it gets quite busy it's the
- 00:08:46perfect place to chat The Night Away
- 00:08:48about the amazing day you just had as
- 00:08:49you eat amazing food and maybe drink a
- 00:08:51bit together with Soul's office workers
- 00:08:53and enjoy the amazing Korean nightlife
- 00:08:55after a successful day and that's it for
- 00:08:57day one but we're going to spend day to
- 00:08:59in the same general area of jungu so you
- 00:09:02can combine both days if you're insanely
- 00:09:04fast at exploring but I think taking two
- 00:09:06days to explore would be a lot
- 00:09:10better we're starting day two in Inon a
- 00:09:13shopping area filled with traditional
- 00:09:15Goods Galleries and small cafes and
- 00:09:18restaurants and you're going to want to
- 00:09:19take that orangen subway line number
- 00:09:21three to angul station and if you're
- 00:09:22curious about how to ride the soul
- 00:09:24Subway we've made a video about it that
- 00:09:26goes really in depth to make it really
- 00:09:28easy for you and when you arrive at
- 00:09:30anguk station get out at exit 6 and walk
- 00:09:33straight well you'll find the main

- 00:09:38all over with cafes and restaurants
- 00:09:40everywhere and shouldn't be skipped over
- 00:09:42so this is a good place to grab a meal
- 00:09:44to start your day I'd personally
- 00:09:46recommend Toma where you can get Chong
- 00:09:48shik a Korean home-cooked meal with a
- 00:09:50traditional soap Bop or pot rice which
- 00:09:52you transfer to your bowl and pour hot
- 00:09:54water in to enjoy sunun when you're
- 00:09:56finished eating and I'd recommend the
- 00:09:58Moka or pork shoulder as it was
- 00:10:00extremely tender and flavorful after
- 00:10:03you've eaten something insadong is the
- 00:10:05perfect spot to buy traditional Korean
- 00:10:07souvenirs and it's incredibly easy to
- 00:10:09find them all over the main culture
- 00:10:11Street and you can find more specialized
- 00:10:12Goods at the samig a multi-level
- 00:10:15shopping plaza that goes up in a spiral
- 00:10:17and has tons of smaller gift shops
- 00:10:19selling things for people of all ages if
- 00:10:21you start to get a bit tired walking
- 00:10:23around visit a traditional Korean tea
- 00:10:25house and try some traditional tea this
- 00:10:27is the best area in all of so to do so
- 00:10:30and it's a really nice and relaxing
- 00:10:32experience especially here at Jong which
- 00:10:35has a big outdoor area to sit at that
- 00:10:36feels completely secluded from the city
- 00:10:39and it's incredibly peaceful and a nice
- 00:10:41day just to relax also on top of
- 00:10:43insadong being a shopping street it's
- 00:10:45the perfect place to get a sense of
- 00:10:47traditional Korean Fine Art when it
- 00:10:48comes to paintings and sculptures and
- 00:10:50you can find art galleries all over the

- 00:11:33additional 5,000 W to see The Secret
- 00:11:35Garden on a guided tour which is limited
- 00:11:37to 100 people per session and can be
- 00:11:39reserved online or onsite first come
- 00:11:41first serve but it can easily sell out
- 00:11:44so it'd be good to reserve online in
- 00:11:46advance and I think it's worth it if you
- 00:11:47haven't been before the main changok
- 00:11:49Kung Palace itself is really beautiful
- 00:11:52with the double decker Kiwa roof and a
- 00:11:54beautiful throne room painted in Korean
- 00:11:56traditional colors of mostly red green
- 00:11:58and gold it's a really peaceful spot to
- 00:12:01walk around as you keep walking through
- 00:12:03these doors and little Alleyways with
- 00:12:04something new to see around every corner
- 00:12:06and after you're done exploring changok
- 00:12:08Kung you can head just south and you'll
- 00:12:10reach chungo Shrine which is optional
- 00:12:12seeing as it's under repair until April
- 00:12:182025 Tumo Shrine is also a UNESCO world
- 00:12:21heritage site that was built in 1394 and
- 00:12:24it's the shrine where the Royal
- 00:12:25ancestral tablets of the ancient kings
- 00:12:27and queens were in shrin for sacrificial
- 00:12:29rights to be performed on them and it
- 00:12:31only cost 1,000 W to enter it was also
- 00:12:34known as being one of the longest
- 00:12:35buildings at the time and after you
- 00:12:37enter the gates it feels kind of like
- 00:12:39walking through the forest and it's said
- 00:12:41that the spirits of the kings and queens
- 00:12:43walk on these Stone paths so you should
- 00:12:45be respectful and walk beside them and
- 00:12:47it can be explored easily in about 30 to
- 00:12:4945 minutes and it's worth it just
- 00:12:51because it's so close to Chong do and
- 00:12:53ins after checking out the shrine it's a
- 00:12:56good idea to get lunch or a snack nearby
- 00:12:58and then it's a 20-minute Walk East to
- 00:13:00tongon station or you can take the
- 00:13:02Subway or taxi if you
- 00:13:06want tongon means great East Gate which
- 00:13:09is also called hungin jimon as it was
- 00:13:11the major Eastern Gate in the wall that
- 00:13:13surrounded Soul during the Josan Dynasty
- 00:13:15and was first built in the year 1398
- 00:13:18under King tajo's rule you can take a
- 00:13:20small walk at the hunging jimon park
- 00:13:22close to exit one of tongon station to
- 00:13:24get a good view of tongon and its
- 00:13:26surroundings which includes a ton of
- 00:13:28various Department stores and most
- 00:13:30importantly the punga fashion town which
- 00:13:32opened up after the Korean War and it's
- 00:13:34where the North Korean refugees started
- 00:13:36selling clothing in 1953 made from US
- 00:13:39army uniforms ponga means peace and the
- 00:13:42shopping center was named in hopes that
- 00:13:44no other Wars would be fought on Korean
- 00:13:45soil it's absolutely massive with
- 00:13:48multiple floors and takes a good 5
- 00:13:50minutes or so to get from one end to the
- 00:13:52other and it's getting a bit dated but
- 00:13:54it's a great place to be reminded where
- 00:13:55Korea came from there are also a ton of
- 00:13:57more modern clothing apartment stores
- 00:13:59nearby so this is a great area for
- 00:14:01people to look around for those who are
- 00:14:03shopping and just south of it you can
- 00:14:05find the dongon design Plaza a very
- 00:14:07futuristic landmark in Soul that was
- 00:14:09completed in 2013 and is now famous for
- 00:14:12Soul's Fashion Week a worldwide Renown
- 00:14:15event to display the latest fashion from
- 00:14:17the biggest brands and it's also the
- 00:14:18perfect place to walk around especially
- 00:14:21at night is there a bunch of paths that
- 00:14:23surround it and it's lit up giving it a
- 00:14:25really nice futuristic Vibe a lot
- 00:14:27different than we saw earlier at p
- 00:14:29fashion town and inside you can find
- 00:14:31various galleries gift shops and
- 00:14:33restaurants to visit and you can choose
- 00:14:35to eat dinner here or if you have the
- 00:14:36energy hop on to Purple Line number four
- 00:14:39at Tong Moon history and culture Park
- 00:14:41station and ride it to chungo SGA
- 00:14:43station and get out at exit 6 to explore
- 00:14:49yundong yundong is an area that changes
- 00:14:51depending on what time of day you go so
- 00:14:53you could go there for dinner on this
- 00:14:55day and then go to a cafe another day
- 00:14:57since there are tons of them that seem
- 00:14:59very popular with both locals and
- 00:15:01tourists it's basically a bunch of
- 00:15:03Alleyways filled with h Oak traditional
- 00:15:04Korean houses and there are a ton of
- 00:15:06restaurants and cafes inside of them I'd
- 00:15:09recommend checking out one of the
- 00:15:10barbecue restaurants like chamu it's a
- 00:15:13massive restaurant with outdoor and
- 00:15:14indoor seating and even has a second
- 00:15:16floor it has a super hectic vibe to it
- 00:15:19but in a good way and it's famous for
- 00:15:21Kisa which is pork skirt meat and it's
- 00:15:24absolutely amazing here marinated to
- 00:15:26Perfection and cooked on these
- 00:15:28traditional style coal Korean grills I'd
- 00:15:30also recommend the kimchi jig here it's
- 00:15:33incredibly Savory and flavorful filled
- 00:15:35with aged kimchi and pork and you can
- 00:15:37reheat it on the grill if you want to
- 00:15:40making it kind of a cool experience also
- 00:15:42this would be a good time to try Soju if
- 00:15:44you haven't yet as it goes perfect with
- 00:15:46Korean barbecue and there's no better
- 00:15:48way to end day two and if you're
- 00:15:51wondering about when to come to Soul we
- 00:15:53made a video about what you can expect

- 00:16:10start the morning visiting a random cafe

- 00:16:13which you can use neighbor maps to find
- 00:16:15and just look at the pictures to see the
- 00:16:17atmosphere this would also be the
- 00:16:18perfect day to head over to Hung at HCK
- 00:16:21University Station in the morning the
- 00:16:23home to Korea's independent Youth and

- 00:17:02yourself over to yoido station on the

- 00:17:35an underground walkway you can find the
- 00:17:37IFC Mall which also has a ton of stores

- 00:17:42hours inside these two malls alone if
- 00:17:44that's your style and if it's not your

- 00:17:47more time in hung day browsing around
- 00:17:49until the afternoon if you're more the
- 00:17:51outdoorsy type Yoo is a great place to

- 00:20:42the street to tokun Palace our first
- 00:20:44historical stop for
- 00:20:49today tuug Palace like kyungbok and
- 00:20:52chokun is also one of the five grand
- 00:20:55palaces built by the kings of the Josan
- 00:20:56Dynasty and was built in the 1400s is a
- 00:20:59residential home of the grand Prince Wan
- 00:21:01and was later designated as a temporary
- 00:21:04Royal Palace in 1593 when King sojo's
- 00:21:07Palace was burnt down during the imin
- 00:21:09war and became a proper Palace in 1611
- 00:21:12it cost 1,000 one to get inside and once
- 00:21:15you're in there it's really tranquil and
- 00:21:17peaceful and the perfect place to walk
- 00:21:19around and explore for the morning it's
- 00:21:21not as big as the other palaces but I
- 00:21:23think it's still worth it just to go for
- 00:21:25a nice walk enjoy the scenery between
- 00:21:27the traditional and the modern and soul
- 00:21:29and if you're interested there are also
- 00:21:31Contemporary Art Museums inside also for
- 00:21:34krama lovers check out the Stonewall
- 00:21:36pathway just outside the palace walls
- 00:21:38which has been featured in tons of
- 00:21:40kramas such as Goblin and misang and
- 00:21:42once you're finished it's time to walk
- 00:21:44south towards Soul station and stop to
- 00:21:46check out sunon gate along the
- 00:21:49way sunon gate is the official name for
- 00:21:52namon or the Great South Gate and one of
- 00:21:55the eight Gates of the Fortress wall of
- 00:21:57Soul just like we saw at moon or hungi
- 00:21:59Moon gate on Day 2 and it was the oldest
- 00:22:02wooden structure in Soul which had
- 00:22:03survived over 600 years through both the
- 00:22:06Japanese Occupation and the Korean War
- 00:22:08but unfortunately it burned down in 2008
- 00:22:10and it was reconstructed in 2013 and
- 00:22:13after checking it out keep heading down
- 00:22:15south to Soul
- 00:22:18[Music]
- 00:22:20station when you arrive at Soul station
- 00:22:22you should go inside the station just to
- 00:22:24get a sense of how massive it is and
- 00:22:26experience how many people at services
- 00:22:28every day then follow the signs to the
- 00:22:30KTX trains Korea's high-speed trains
- 00:22:33that go all across the country including
- 00:22:35Busan which is a trip that is a must if
- 00:22:37you're coming to Korea in my opinion and
- 00:22:39we'll also cover more in detail in
- 00:22:40another video later inside Soul station
- 00:22:43you can find various restaurants or
- 00:22:45cafes to stop at so if you're getting
- 00:22:47hungry consider giving one of them a try
- 00:22:49there is also an outlet mall attached to
- 00:22:51the station with a big supermarket and
- 00:22:53other restaurants as well and then on
- 00:22:55the exterior you might notice some
- 00:22:57protesting going and religious groups
- 00:23:00with it being such a central area for
- 00:23:02voices to be heard and you'll see the
- 00:23:03old soul station which was built by
- 00:23:06Japan during its occupation and
- 00:23:07completed in 1924 so it has a little bit
- 00:23:10of a dark history but it's now used as a
- 00:23:12culture complex and from here you might
- 00:23:15notice a walkway overhead this is the
- 00:23:17solo 7017 which was originally an
- 00:23:21overpass for cars to prevent congestion
- 00:23:23and was transformed into a walking path
- 00:23:25in 2017 from here you can get really
- 00:23:28great views of Soul's biggest
- 00:23:30intersection right at Soul station and
- 00:23:32get a sense of just how busy it is
- 00:23:34especially with one of or the absolute
- 00:23:36busiest bus interchanges in the country
- 00:23:38and after exploring Soul station it's
- 00:23:40time to start walking East on the path
- 00:23:42all the way to one of the largest
- 00:23:44traditional markets in all of Korea
- 00:23:46namon
- 00:23:49Market nammon Market has a huge history
- 00:23:52that dates all the way back to 1414
- 00:23:54during the Josan Dynasty just after Soul
- 00:23:57had just become the capital city City
- 00:23:58and a market was built in place in about
- 00:24:00the same location where namon Market
- 00:24:02stands today which it now sells just
- 00:24:04about everything you can think of
- 00:24:06including clothes stationery Fine Arts
- 00:24:10kitchen wear accessories and more namu
- 00:24:13Market is a great place to just get lost
- 00:24:15in and explore all the Korean
- 00:24:16traditional Goods that you can find try
- 00:24:18out some street food and enjoy the
- 00:24:21traditional and somewhat chaotic
- 00:24:22atmosphere it's the perfect harmony
- 00:24:24between a tourist area and the residents
- 00:24:27that use it every day and if you're ever
- 00:24:29lost just ask one of these tour guides
- 00:24:31is there in every tourist area in Soul
- 00:24:33and there's even a street of camera
- 00:24:35stores with lots of camera equipment
- 00:24:37that's both old and new which is my
- 00:24:39personal favorite area to explore and
- 00:24:41sometimes you can find some hidden gems
- 00:24:42in there and after seeing Nam moon this
- 00:24:45is a good time to grab some lunch in the
- 00:24:47area relax for a bit until a couple
- 00:24:49hours before Sunset as we're going up to
- 00:24:51namson the mountain in the middle of
- 00:24:53Soul with the end Soul Tower that
- 00:24:55probably looks familiar even if you've
- 00:24:57never been to Soul
- 00:24:59[Music]
- 00:25:01the entrance of namson is not that far
- 00:25:03away from namde Moon you just walk up
- 00:25:05the hill a little bit to the southeast
- 00:25:07and once you arrive you can choose if
- 00:25:09you want to take the cable car which is
- 00:25:1115,000 W round trip or you can hike up
- 00:25:13to the top which I strongly recommend as
- 00:25:15it only takes 30 minutes and you get one
- 00:25:18of the best views of Soul about halfway
- 00:25:20up and once you're at the top you arrive
- 00:25:22at a big Plaza area and you can see n
- 00:25:24Soul Tower towering over soul and
- 00:25:27there's a bunch of convenience stores
- 00:25:29cafes and even a restaurant inside the
- 00:25:31tower and sometimes they hold events in
- 00:25:33the plaza too it's also up here that you
- 00:25:35can see all the love locks that I think
- 00:25:37have been shown in a lot of kramas with
- 00:25:39vending machines around to buy them if
- 00:25:41you want to do it yourself when you walk
- 00:25:43around the plaza you get a lot of
- 00:25:45different viewpoints of soul and you can
- 00:25:46see a full
- 00:25:48360Β° so make sure to save this for one
- 00:25:50of the nicer and clearer days just so
- 00:25:52you can see the amazing view and get a
- 00:25:54sense of how big soul is also watching
- 00:25:57the sunset at nson is is amazing as you
- 00:25:59can see the city lights slowly turn on
- 00:26:01as it turns dark just enjoy the moment
- 00:26:04grab a snack or something and then head
- 00:26:06back down to yongdong the same way you
- 00:26:08came up and you're at one of Soul's most
- 00:26:10famous tourist
- 00:26:14areas Mong dong also dates back to the
- 00:26:17Jan Dynasty when it was called Mong
- 00:26:19neang and a residential area at the time
- 00:26:21and it officially became yongdong
- 00:26:23District after Korean gained
- 00:26:24independence from Japan in 1946 and it
- 00:26:27became a popular in Trendy district for
- 00:26:30shopping since the 1970s here you can
- 00:26:32find tons of stores that sell clothing
- 00:26:35Cosmetics Kpop souvenirs and even things
- 00:26:38like Korean snacks and bulk to take home
- 00:26:40with you so spend some time shopping
- 00:26:42here if you're looking for more modern
- 00:26:43souvenirs from Korea you can also check
- 00:26:45out the Mong cathedral which is a
- 00:26:48popular location for demonstrations and
- 00:26:50protests in the 1980s and '90s and also
- 00:26:52at night time there is a big Street
- 00:26:54Market with food vendors everywhere
- 00:26:56lining the street that are catered to
- 00:26:57tourists so they're a bit pricey these
- 00:26:59days but I'd have a really hard time not
- 00:27:01recommending it just for the atmosphere
- 00:27:03as I know a lot of people really enjoy
- 00:27:05it and it looks like there are some
- 00:27:06really tasty Foods as well yongdong is
- 00:27:09also a very popular spot for people to
- 00:27:11book a hotel in but it's not my absolute
- 00:27:13favorite location for this and we made a
- 00:27:16separate video on where to stay in Soul
- 00:27:18that you can check out if you're curious
- 00:27:20if you're still hungry after the snacks
- 00:27:21and street food you can check out Mong
- 00:27:24kza which is one of the most famous
- 00:27:25dumpling restaurants in Soul and this is
- 00:27:28the end of day four so spend as much
- 00:27:30time enjoying yongdong as you
- 00:27:34need for day five it's time to explore
- 00:27:37Soul's modern District of kangnam which
- 00:27:40literally means south of the Han River
- 00:27:42and is also one of Soul's most trendy
- 00:27:44areas that I barely visit so take my
- 00:27:46recommendations with a grain of salt but
- 00:27:48if you're into Korean fashion and luxury
- 00:27:50brands or upscale cafes and restaurants
- 00:27:53this is the place for you also I know a
- 00:27:56lot of people that traditionally watch
- 00:27:57this channel won't be that interested so
- 00:28:00if you don't care about Korean Trends in
- 00:28:01shopping a good alternative on this day
- 00:28:04would be to do a sole DMZ tour where you
- 00:28:06go to the actual demilitarized zone
- 00:28:08between North Korea and South Korea and
- 00:28:10you even get to step on a North Korean
- 00:28:12soil and see the North Korean guards
- 00:28:15unfortunately it looks like the tours
- 00:28:16have been paused but they'll return in
- 00:28:18the future and I'll link the website in
- 00:28:20the description for further information
- 00:28:22and another alternative is a museum day
- 00:28:24and start out at the Korean War Memorial
- 00:28:26near samaki station exit2 which is an
- 00:28:29absolute mustsee if you're curious in
- 00:28:31the Korean War it's free to visit and
- 00:28:34has some really good visual exhibitions
- 00:28:36of what vehicles and weapons were used
- 00:28:38and lots of details on the individual
- 00:28:40battles to understand how South Korea
- 00:28:42got to where it is today and then there
- 00:28:44is the national museum of Korea which is
- 00:28:46really close to it right by ichon
- 00:28:48station exit 2 and a great way to go
- 00:28:50back in time before 200000 BC when rocks
- 00:28:53were used as tools and see how Korea
- 00:28:55progressed all the way through the Three
- 00:28:57Kingdoms the Joe Sun Dynasty and then
- 00:29:00the Korean Empire and you can easily
- 00:29:02spend most of the day at these two
- 00:29:03museums if they sound interesting to you
- 00:29:05but if you're ready to check out modern
- 00:29:07trendy Soul let's go back to day five
- 00:29:09we're going to start the morning at
- 00:29:11either Chi's lot World Mall or coex mall
- 00:29:14by Samsung station or if you want to see
- 00:29:16both then start at chami lot World Mall
- 00:29:19which is located right at chami
- 00:29:24station lot World Mall is absolutely
- 00:29:27massive build with stores for people of
- 00:29:29all ages and it's attached to the lot
- 00:29:31World Tower the tallest building in
- 00:29:33Korea at 123 floors or 555 M high with
- 00:29:38an observatory called The Soul sky on
- 00:29:40the 118th floor with the world's tallest
- 00:29:42glass floor which is pretty insane
- 00:29:44looking down over 500 M and attached to
- 00:29:47the mall you can find a massive indoor
- 00:29:49ice rink and a connected indoor and
- 00:29:51outdoor theme park called L World
- 00:29:53adventure so you could easily spend all
- 00:29:55day here also there's the Su Chone Lake
- 00:29:58outside which is a great place to spend
- 00:30:00some time walking around after you eat
- 00:30:01in the lote World Mall and once you're
- 00:30:03finished here if you want to check out
- 00:30:05coex Mall as well it's time to ride
- 00:30:07subway line number two three stops to
- 00:30:09Samsung
- 00:30:12station to get to coex mall follow the
- 00:30:15signs to Samsung station exit 5 and 6
- 00:30:17and you arrive at the plaza area and the
- 00:30:19entrance to coex which is especially
- 00:30:22famous for the Starfield Library which
- 00:30:24holds over 70,000 books ranging in genre
- 00:30:27and it's become an incredibly popular
- 00:30:29spot for tourists in recent years this
- 00:30:31would be a good spot to start your
- 00:30:33relaxing morning and then you can browse
- 00:30:35the malls 300 stores and restaurants go
- 00:30:38to the aquarium or even catch a movie
- 00:30:40here at the Mega Box Cinema if you want
- 00:30:43also right across the street from coex
- 00:30:44mall you can find the pansa
- 00:30:47[Music]
- 00:30:50temple punga temple is a Buddhist temple
- 00:30:53constructed all the way back in 794 and
- 00:30:56it's had quite the history too since
- 00:30:58Buddhism was severely suppressed during
- 00:31:00the Josan Dynasty which started in 1392
- 00:31:03all the way until 1910 and then it
- 00:31:06caught fire in 1939 destroying most of
- 00:31:09the buildings but it's been
- 00:31:10reconstructed and sits peacefully among
- 00:31:12Soul's modern kungum area and in my
- 00:31:15opinion it's the nicest Buddhist temple
- 00:31:17to visit in all of Soul as it's quite
- 00:31:19big with a lot of different buildings to
- 00:31:21see there is a massive Buddhist statue
- 00:31:24and it's surrounded by trees in nature
- 00:31:26giving it a nice peaceful atmosphere
- 00:31:28after spending some time at the malls in
- 00:31:30pansa Temple we're going to ride subway
- 00:31:32line number two three stops from Samsung
- 00:31:34Station to kangam
- 00:31:39Station kangnam station is at the center
- 00:31:42of kangnam gu and it's the home of size
- 00:31:44hit kungum style when you first arrive
- 00:31:47you can walk around inside the station a
- 00:31:49bit as there are a lot of clothing and
- 00:31:50Accessory stores aimed at young people
- 00:31:53and then head out exit 10 or 11 for
- 00:31:55kung's main strip between kungum station
- 00:31:57and chunan station here you can find
- 00:32:00tons of restaurants shops for people of
- 00:32:02all ages you could go to a nice cafe
- 00:32:05which can be found all over kung's back
- 00:32:07Alleyways mostly just off the main strip
- 00:32:09you could try one of the new import
- 00:32:11restaurants such as Five Guys Burgers
- 00:32:13from America or Tim Hortons from Canada
- 00:32:16and just take a look around and see
- 00:32:17what's currently trendy in Korea because
- 00:32:19there's a chance that if something is
- 00:32:21it'll be here and kungum doesn't really
- 00:32:23speak traditional Korean culture and
- 00:32:25it's not really my style to be honest
- 00:32:27but I know that it has to be included in
- 00:32:29a 7-Day Soul itinerary for firsttime
- 00:32:31travelers and it's definitely popular
- 00:32:33for a reason after exploring kungum
- 00:32:36we're going to take the red shimang line
- 00:32:38two stops to shinsa station get out Exit
- 00:32:408 and if you aren't tired of shopping
- 00:32:43yet you're just about to enter the most
- 00:32:44luxurious area in
- 00:32:47Soul shinsa is home to all the big
- 00:32:50luxury brands on the famous K hook which
- 00:32:53you'll most likely notice right away
- 00:32:54with some luxury cars passing by and
- 00:32:57people wearing all all sorts of luxury
- 00:32:58goods to show off their wealth and class
- 00:33:00and style it's also the center of
- 00:33:02plastic surgery in Korea and there are
- 00:33:04clinics in basically every single
- 00:33:06building here and it's a good area to
- 00:33:08just look around and browse and find a
- 00:33:10luxury Cafe if you want to relax and
- 00:33:12when you're done with shinsa it's time
- 00:33:14to head to Aku Jong Rodeo to its
- 00:33:16[Music]
- 00:33:19East Aku Jong Rodeo is also technically
- 00:33:22a part of shinsa and features lots of
- 00:33:24Alleyways with upscale restaurants and
- 00:33:26cafes and some pretty big department
- 00:33:28stores nearby too and this is the spot
- 00:33:30we're going to end today with some
- 00:33:31dinner and it'd be good to check
- 00:33:33neighbor Maps or even Google Maps to
- 00:33:35search for some places that look
- 00:33:36interesting and advanced to go there we
- 00:33:38checked out tagura a takabi restaurant
- 00:33:41which is spicy stir-fried chicken with
- 00:33:43rice cakes cabbage and other vegetables
- 00:33:46and it was reasonably priced for the
- 00:33:47neighborhood and pretty good too and if
- 00:33:50you didn't get a chance to check out the
- 00:33:51water show at pomio on day three this is
- 00:33:54a good night to do it if you still have
- 00:33:55the energy as it's just a short subway
- 00:33:58ride to shimo station or about a 30 to
- 00:34:0040 minute walk along the river and
- 00:34:02that'll end day
- 00:34:05five for day six we're going to check
- 00:34:08out Eastern soul with another relaxing
- 00:34:10day and we're going to start out by
- 00:34:12going to one of Soul's nicest Parks Soul
- 00:34:15[Music]
- 00:34:16Forest Soul Forest is located at Soul
- 00:34:19Forest Station on the yellow suim
- 00:34:21bundang line get out exit four or five
- 00:34:23and walk straight to Soul Forest which
- 00:34:25is one of my favorite parks in Soul as
- 00:34:27it really feels like you get out of the
- 00:34:29city into a quiet peaceful Forest it's a
- 00:34:32fun place to rent one of the dotting you
- 00:34:34bikes nearby and bike around the park or
- 00:34:36you could grab some snacks from a
- 00:34:38convenience store and have a picnic
- 00:34:40there are various playgrounds Gardens
- 00:34:42and even deer which can be fed from time
- 00:34:44to time just find a spot to relax and
- 00:34:47enjoy the morning and when you're
- 00:34:48starting to get hungry there are
- 00:34:50Alleyways nearby to the north with a ton
- 00:34:52of restaurants and cafes but they get
- 00:34:54pretty busy so you could also go
- 00:34:56directly west of the Park where there's
- 00:34:58the soul Forest Flea Market and there
- 00:35:00are also little restaurants such as the
- 00:35:02soul punik which I tried the Ros dooki
- 00:35:05or RosΓ© rice cakes and it was pretty
- 00:35:07decent or you could save lunch for the
- 00:35:09next area cuz it's time to walk East a
- 00:35:12little bit to one of Soul's hipster
- 00:35:13areas
- 00:35:17song song was the main location for shoe
- 00:35:20production in Soul since the 1970s so
- 00:35:22there are a lot of red brick industrial
- 00:35:24buildings all over and a lot of the
- 00:35:26older factories have been converted into
- 00:35:28cafes stores and restaurants the area is
- 00:35:31the perfect blend of the old and the new
- 00:35:33and that's what brings so many people
- 00:35:35here to hang out explore and of course
- 00:35:37for lots of people to take Instagram
- 00:35:39photos so be aware of that before you go
- 00:35:42song is also a great spot to stop for
- 00:35:44some food or go to a cafe just wander
- 00:35:47around the Alleyways get a bit lost and
- 00:35:49I'm sure there will be some things of
- 00:35:51interest and just like kangam song is
- 00:35:54not really my style but it'll be right
- 00:35:56up the alley of those who are really
- 00:35:57interested in Korea's youth culture
- 00:36:00vintage clothing and just seeing how
- 00:36:01Korea's young people hang out these days
- 00:36:04and once you're done with song it's time
- 00:36:06to walk about 30 minutes or take the
- 00:36:08subway to chaang station to get to tukum
- 00:36:11[Music]
- 00:36:14resort dukum resort is another amazing
- 00:36:17spot in Soul for a meal outside on the
- 00:36:19Han River during the sunset on a nice
- 00:36:21day so remember in advance to save this
- 00:36:23day for a sunny day if possible it's the
- 00:36:26most popular park on the Han River in
- 00:36:27eastern soul and it has a completely
- 00:36:29different vibe than the yoido or Pomo
- 00:36:31Han river parks we showed earlier with
- 00:36:34great views of L World Tower especially
- 00:36:36during the sunset if you want to order
- 00:36:38delivery here you can use the shuttle
- 00:36:40app and remember to order the tuum
- 00:36:43resort delivery Zone one or two which
- 00:36:45are in the description of the video if
- 00:36:47you want to eat fried chicken a
- 00:36:49tradition of the Han River there is a
- 00:36:51bhc Kon or mom's touch right inside the
- 00:36:54park so it'd be a lot easier to just get
- 00:36:56take out there instead of dealing with
- 00:36:58the hassles of delivery and now you can
- 00:37:00make your decision if you want to end
- 00:37:01your day here or if you want to go for
- 00:37:03round two at kuk University Station just
- 00:37:06one stop away on the dark green line
- 00:37:08number seven or about a 10-minute
- 00:37:11[Music]
- 00:37:13walk the Alleyways near kuk University
- 00:37:16Station near Exit 1 are filled with
- 00:37:18everything you could ask for when it
- 00:37:19comes to nightlife with bars everywhere
- 00:37:22arcade games and shoot them up Galleries
- 00:37:25and it's not very touristy so if you
- 00:37:27want to see how Korean University
- 00:37:28students hang out at night this is a
- 00:37:30really good place to do it I went to a
- 00:37:33bar called osucha by myself for our
- 00:37:35video on how to eat alone in Korea and
- 00:37:37it was a really friendly atmosphere that
- 00:37:39I recommend for people that are alone
- 00:37:41and it was also really cheap if you're
- 00:37:43with other people just walk around the
- 00:37:45Alleyways and I know you'll find a place
- 00:37:47that looks good as there's seriously so
- 00:37:49many of
- 00:37:50[Music]
- 00:37:53them it's now the final day in Soul and
- 00:37:56we're going to spend the prority of the
- 00:37:58day in Mugu The District home to hung in
- 00:38:00Western soul and I know each traveler
- 00:38:02will be different so I'll give four
- 00:38:04different options to start the morning
- 00:38:06which are all great options catered to
- 00:38:08different types of
- 00:38:10[Music]
- 00:38:11Travelers the first option is for those
- 00:38:14who might want to include a hike into
- 00:38:15their trip and hike up in wangan a
- 00:38:18mountain 340 m in elevation which can be
- 00:38:21completed in about 2 to 3 hours and you
- 00:38:23can start from Kung bokong station on
- 00:38:25the Orange Line number three ghetto at
- 00:38:27one and walk to the path entrance which
- 00:38:29follows the soul Fortress wall of in
- 00:38:31wangan mountain and the climb isn't too
- 00:38:34steep or intense and once you get to the
- 00:38:36top the views of Soul are absolutely
- 00:38:38stunning and you can see really far and
- 00:38:41if you're really hardcore since it's
- 00:38:42Facing East you could catch the sunrise
- 00:38:45here if you want if hiking isn't your
- 00:38:47thing I'll give you three different
- 00:38:48neighborhoods that are all interesting
- 00:38:50for different types of
- 00:38:54people Ian is the international
- 00:38:56neighborhood of soul
- 00:38:58as it's located right beside what used
- 00:38:59to be the yongsang Garrison the
- 00:39:01headquarters for US military forces in
- 00:39:04Korea until 2018 now typically I
- 00:39:07wouldn't recommend IU on to First comers
- 00:39:08to Korea as it's more of an
- 00:39:10international Vibe than a Korean Vibe
- 00:39:12with a very big variety of restaurants
- 00:39:14and shops from other countries but a lot
- 00:39:17of Travelers love going there so I had
- 00:39:19to include it just so you know about it
- 00:39:21and you can make your own choice also at
- 00:39:23nighttime it's hopping with bars and
- 00:39:25clubs for people of all ages and
- 00:39:27especially tourist friendly so you could
- 00:39:29end the night here no problem as well if
- 00:39:31that's your
- 00:39:34thing for those looking for a trending
- 00:39:37District that's incredibly popular
- 00:39:39amongst young Koreans yundong is just
- 00:39:41North of hung and it has a Vibe similar
- 00:39:43to song that we explored yesterday but a
- 00:39:46little bit more on the Cozy side with
- 00:39:48the narrow Alleyways filled with smaller
- 00:39:50restaurants and cafes and even some
- 00:39:52photo booths here and there this area is
- 00:39:55so dense that there will be something
- 00:39:56for everybody and the quality is
- 00:39:58reasonably high for my
- 00:40:03experience shinchon is the perfect place
- 00:40:05to walk around and see what university
- 00:40:07student life is like in Korea with the
- 00:40:10campuses of Yonce University and UHA
- 00:40:12Woman's University these are two of the
- 00:40:14most prestigious University campuses in
- 00:40:17all of Korea and they're both incredibly
- 00:40:19beautiful to look at and walk around for
- 00:40:21a bit in the morning also in the
- 00:40:23vicinity are a lot of incredibly cheap
- 00:40:25restaurants and sometimes you get cool
- 00:40:27events going on especially on Yonce the
- 00:40:31Main Street between shinchon station and
- 00:40:33Yonce University for a meal
- 00:40:35recommendation I'll recommend a dunas or
- 00:40:37port color place called G dunas which is
- 00:40:40just 4,01 for this and surprisingly good
- 00:40:43quality and filling too and after you've
- 00:40:45hiked in wangan or explored one of the
- 00:40:47neighborhoods I mentioned it's time to
- 00:40:49go to one of the biggest traditional
- 00:40:50markets in Korea Mangan
- 00:40:53[Music]
- 00:40:55Market Mangan Market is filled with very
- 00:40:57affordable produce that many Koreans use
- 00:40:59that live close by and to get here take
- 00:41:02the brown subway line number six to
- 00:41:04Mangan station get out at Exit 2 and do
- 00:41:07a little U-turn into the back Alleyways
- 00:41:09away from the Main Street and this is
- 00:41:11what the entrance looks like manga
- 00:41:13Market has been around since 1975 when
- 00:41:16it opened as a standard traditional
- 00:41:17Market but in recent years with the
- 00:41:20abundance of affordable housing nearby
- 00:41:22and many young people moving in it
- 00:41:24evolved a lot to cater to the young
- 00:41:25demographic and now become so popular
- 00:41:28that many tourists visit as well inside
- 00:41:31the market in addition to the produce
- 00:41:33there are a lot of street food type
- 00:41:35stalls that are gaining popularity with
- 00:41:36both Koreans and tourists the first
- 00:41:39snack we're going to try is hog which
- 00:41:40you can find at hun hog hog is like a
- 00:41:43pancake filled with sugar cinnamon nuts
- 00:41:46and seeds and tastes similar to a
- 00:41:48cinnamon bun but it's usually a bit
- 00:41:50crispy from being fried which makes it
- 00:41:52amazing and also my favorite dessert in
- 00:41:54Korea another recommendation is kochu or
- 00:41:57fried Peppers which you can find at weak
- 00:42:00inside the market which also serves
- 00:42:02several types of makuli or rice wine and
- 00:42:04you can eat inside or get it to go it
- 00:42:06has a really nice filling with pork and
- 00:42:08vegetables inside and comes with two
- 00:42:10different types of sauces that both go
- 00:42:12perfect with it and after snacking a bit
- 00:42:14you can just keep on eating street food
- 00:42:16if you want is there are plenty of other
- 00:42:18options too or you can check out one of
- 00:42:20the restaurants or cafes which Mangan
- 00:42:22has plenty of in the area and after
- 00:42:24you're completely stuffed head for a
- 00:42:26little stroll along the Han River by
- 00:42:28heading west and walk around Mangan Han
- 00:42:30River Park which has a lot of open space
- 00:42:32and areas to walk around and sit and
- 00:42:34what I really recommend is taking all of
- 00:42:36those snacks you just bought at the
- 00:42:38market to go and eat them by the river
- 00:42:40and after relaxing a bit it's time to
- 00:42:42get ready for dinner and there's no
- 00:42:43better place to end your 7-day trip than
- 00:42:45hung day and to get there it's about a
- 00:42:4720-minute walk or you can take the
- 00:42:49subway to hongi University Station
- 00:42:58I've introduced hung already but as a
- 00:43:00reminder it's the area that was the
- 00:43:02birthplace of a lot of independent
- 00:43:03Korean artists and musicians that's now
- 00:43:06one of the biggest tourist areas in Soul
- 00:43:08it's absolutely filled with restaurants
- 00:43:10cafes clothing stores anime stores gift
- 00:43:14shops arcades photo booth bars and clubs
- 00:43:19or in other words it's a theme park for
- 00:43:21young adults especially at nighttime get
- 00:43:24out at hongi University Station exit 9
- 00:43:27take a direct left into the Alleyways
- 00:43:29and you'll find a lot of restaurants all
- 00:43:30lined up in a main strip and a lot more
- 00:43:33all over the Alleyways all of the
- 00:43:35restaurants in hung are familiar with
- 00:43:37tourists who can't speak Korean so you
- 00:43:39can order with ease and just enjoy your
- 00:43:41time which is why common franchises such
- 00:43:43as yugan which serves takabi and SE
- 00:43:46shikang which is a barbecue restaurant
- 00:43:48are so popular here if you're looking
- 00:43:50for something a bit calmer consider
- 00:43:52walking along the kongi forest park
- 00:43:54outside exit 6 and pick one of the
- 00:43:56restaurants that lines the beautiful
- 00:43:58walkway also you should check out the
- 00:44:00main hondai shopping street lined with
- 00:44:02accessory and clothing stores and if you
- 00:44:04want to have some fun check out one of
- 00:44:06the airsoft shooting ranges or dun games
- 00:44:08a massive four-story arcade both located
- 00:44:11on the same shopping street and then as
- 00:44:13it gets late hung day turns into a party
- 00:44:16so keep in mind that it's going to get
- 00:44:17loud and hectic as there are tons of
- 00:44:19bars and clubs and it's the perfect
- 00:44:21place to celebrate the end of your trip
- 00:44:25[Music]
