00:00:00
have you guys ever noticed that
00:00:01
sometimes when you want something so
00:00:03
badly it usually doesn't end up coming
00:00:05
true or maybe the exact opposite happens
00:00:07
for example let's say you're on a date
00:00:09
right and you really really like this
00:00:11
person and you want the date to go well
00:00:13
but somehow you get really nervous and
00:00:14
you're not really yourself anymore and
00:00:17
you start acting weird and The Vibes and
00:00:19
the chemistry is off and then afterwards
00:00:21
you just never hear from them ever again
00:00:22
or let's say you really want this job
00:00:24
and you go for the interview and then
00:00:26
you put so much pressure on yourself to
00:00:28
perform well that you end up doing the
00:00:30
exact opposite and then you don't get
00:00:32
called back for the next round
00:00:33
interestingly I've also noticed that the
00:00:35
flip side of this is true I've had so
00:00:38
many instances in my life where when I
00:00:40
just didn't give a about the
00:00:42
outcome that was when things started to
00:00:44
work in my favor for example for my
00:00:46
whole life I've always been so obsessed
00:00:48
with my acne and also my body just not
00:00:51
looking the way that I want it to last
00:00:54
year I reached a point where I was just
00:00:55
like it I don't want to care
00:00:57
anymore I don't want to think about it
00:00:59
and clearly stressing about it has not
00:01:01
helped me in any way so I just stopped
00:01:03
thinking about it and I just continued
00:01:05
doing my skin care and staying
00:01:07
consistent with healthy eating healing
00:01:09
my gut and all of that and I kept
00:01:11
showing up to the gym three four times a
00:01:12
week and not even a year after that I
00:01:14
went from this to this and then this to
00:01:18
this it was really weird I felt like I
00:01:20
just woke up one day a completely
00:01:21
different person and I've come to learn
00:01:23
that this phenomenon or whatever you
00:01:25
want to call it is actually related to
00:01:27
something called The Law of Detachment
00:01:29
I've been really interested in this
00:01:30
topic lately because Detachment is one
00:01:32
of the hardest things to master but once
00:01:35
you do no joke it's like the ultimate
00:01:38
unlock to improving pretty much every
00:01:40
aspect of your life from your
00:01:41
relationships to your Career Success to
00:01:43
your Fitness and literally everything
00:01:45
else in between it took me such a long
00:01:47
time for me to get my head around it
00:01:49
because there's a bunch of
00:01:50
misconceptions out there about what
00:01:52
Detachment actually is and how to
00:01:54
successfully go about it but once I did
00:01:56
it brought me a lot of great results in
00:01:58
so many different areas of my life which
00:02:00
I'll touch more on later on in this
00:02:02
video time stamps below as always
00:02:03
because I value your time so what
00:02:05
exactly is the Law of Detachment I used
00:02:08
to think that Detachment was the same as
00:02:10
being apathetic or being emotionally
00:02:12
indifferent like having a Blas attitude
00:02:15
towards life where you're just like yeah
00:02:17
whatever I don't care what happens to me
00:02:19
or my career or my relationship but now
00:02:21
I've learned that actual Detachment is
00:02:24
actually releasing our desire for
00:02:26
specific outcomes it's not needing for
00:02:28
things to turn out or certain way but at
00:02:30
the same time you're still working
00:02:32
towards and having a stake in that
00:02:34
relationship or that career or that life
00:02:36
outcome it's a balancing act of caring
00:02:39
enough to work hard towards that goal
00:02:41
while still not caring too much and
00:02:43
being overly invested to the point where
00:02:45
it leads to self-sabotaging behavior
00:02:47
when we care a little too much it puts a
00:02:49
lot of pressure on us to achieve that
00:02:52
outcome and often this causes us to
00:02:54
overthink and also make irrational
00:02:56
decisions which then ironically stops us
00:02:58
from achieving the result that we want
00:03:00
Detachment is being able to accept
00:03:02
whatever happens good or bad for what it
00:03:04
is and trusting that you'll be okay no
00:03:06
matter the outcome basically you won't
00:03:08
be completely ruined and devastated if
00:03:11
things don't turn out the way you wanted
00:03:12
to Detachment sounds like well you know
00:03:15
this relationship didn't really work out
00:03:17
and I mean we tried our best but maybe
00:03:20
it was just never meant to be and it was
00:03:22
always just meant to come to an end and
00:03:24
I'll be okay or it could sound like my
00:03:26
YouTube video tanked this week but you
00:03:28
know what I can just try again next week
00:03:30
and I'll be okay now you might be
00:03:32
thinking why is this important I've
00:03:34
really come to realize that being able
00:03:36
to detach is probably one of the
00:03:37
greatest life skills that you can have
00:03:39
which is why it's something that I
00:03:41
really want to work on this year holding
00:03:43
on to an idea just because you've become
00:03:46
attached to it creates a lot of anxiety
00:03:49
it makes us obsessed over needing things
00:03:51
to be a certain way and if it doesn't
00:03:53
turn out that way then it causes us a
00:03:55
lot of pain attachment is really all
00:03:57
about trying to gain a sense of control
00:03:59
over the situation but the thing is
00:04:01
control is an illusion because most
00:04:04
things are out of our control the moment
00:04:06
we release the need for control you know
00:04:08
to control our partners to behave
00:04:10
exactly the way we want them to and for
00:04:12
our YouTube channel to perform the way
00:04:14
we predicted and for our fitness journey
00:04:16
to go exactly according to plan with
00:04:18
zero hiccups then that's when we can set
00:04:20
ourselves free from this pain and that
00:04:22
opens up more space for love in our
00:04:25
relationships and creativity in our
00:04:27
YouTube and also real progress in our
00:04:29
fitness Journey so how do we actually
00:04:31
detach Detachment can be applied to
00:04:33
pretty much every scenario and area of
00:04:36
life I can only really speak from my own
00:04:38
experience so that's what I'm going to
00:04:39
use as examples Detachment in
00:04:41
relationships so in one of my past
00:04:43
relationships I was really just attached
00:04:45
to the idea of this future that we were
00:04:47
going to have because our trajectories
00:04:49
were so aligned and it all seemed so
00:04:52
perfect in theory anyway and that ideal
00:04:54
future image really clouded my judgment
00:04:57
of the reality of what the relationship
00:04:59
was actually like in the present the
00:05:01
reality was I just felt really anxious
00:05:04
all of the time and I didn't feel very
00:05:05
supported or cared for and overall I
00:05:08
just felt unhappy but I ignored all of
00:05:10
that and I stayed a lot longer than I
00:05:13
should have because I was so attached to
00:05:15
the idea of this perfect future I kept
00:05:17
thinking to myself like man this really
00:05:19
needs to work out because otherwise the
00:05:21
plan is going to fall apart looking back
00:05:23
if I was just able to detach from this
00:05:25
dream life that I had envisioned for the
00:05:28
both of us then I would have realized a
00:05:29
lot sooner that I didn't need this
00:05:31
person in order to materialize that
00:05:34
dream life that I was more than capable
00:05:36
of working towards it on my own and once
00:05:38
I realized that it gave me the strength
00:05:40
to finally walk away from something that
00:05:42
wasn't right for me the next example is
00:05:44
about Detachment with my fitness journey
00:05:46
and looks so I've been on Plenty of
00:05:48
weight loss Journeys and they were
00:05:50
either just not effective or not
00:05:52
sustainable meaning that I would lose
00:05:55
all of the weight but then gain it all
00:05:56
back within 6 months and through
00:05:58
understanding the law of Detachment I
00:06:00
Now understand why I was always fixated
00:06:03
on the way that I looked in the current
00:06:05
moment and how far off that was from the
00:06:08
way that I wanted to look the outcome
00:06:10
which was the body that I really wanted
00:06:13
was what I got attached to I would do
00:06:15
excessive amounts of cardio and undereat
00:06:17
because by hooka by cook I wanted to
00:06:19
look a certain way within 3 months which
00:06:21
in the fitness world is an insanely
00:06:23
short period of time 3 months is like
00:06:25
nothing and the reason why this didn't
00:06:26
work is because I would obsessively look
00:06:29
in the mirror every day and if I didn't
00:06:31
see progress at the rate at which I
00:06:33
wanted to see it then it would
00:06:34
discourage me a lot I'd get super
00:06:36
frustrated and just give up that day and
00:06:38
then I'd start eating like crap because
00:06:40
what's the point none of this is working
00:06:42
anyway I'd get lazy with exercising and
00:06:44
fall off track and that was exactly why
00:06:47
I kept setting myself back and then one
00:06:49
day I was just like you know what what
00:06:51
if I just didn't set myself an end date
00:06:53
didn't have any expectation of where
00:06:55
this is going to go and how long it's
00:06:56
going to take me and just focus on
00:06:58
enjoying the journey without putting any
00:06:59
sort of pressure on myself and in
00:07:01
January of 2023 that was when I hired a
00:07:03
PT and went to the gym a few times a
00:07:05
week I drastically cleaned up my diet
00:07:08
and I just kept going I just honestly
00:07:10
didn't think or feel anything about it I
00:07:12
just did it for 9 months I didn't take
00:07:14
any progress photos and I never weighed
00:07:17
myself once and I just stopped analyzing
00:07:19
my body in front of the mirror all I
00:07:21
focused on was just on getting stronger
00:07:23
and getting better at performing certain
00:07:25
lifts and trying out new healthy recipes
00:07:28
which was honestly really fun and to me
00:07:30
I love my me time in the kitchen where
00:07:32
I'm just like you know listening to
00:07:34
music or a podcast and trying out
00:07:36
something new and I just made sure that
00:07:38
I was feeling good and was having fun
00:07:40
throughout the journey and then one day
00:07:42
9 months later I went to a friend's
00:07:44
place for a swim and then when I came
00:07:47
out in my bikini she just kind of like
00:07:49
looked at me and said dude you're like
00:07:51
fit now and I was like what and then we
00:07:53
took some pictures by the pool and mind
00:07:55
you these were the First Progress photos
00:07:58
if you will that I took since starting
00:08:00
my fitness journey and when I looked at
00:08:02
the photos I was like brh when did this
00:08:05
happen because I was just this like not
00:08:08
too long ago I posted some of the
00:08:10
pictures on Instagram and then got a
00:08:11
whole flood of messages from friends
00:08:14
basically saying the same thing and guys
00:08:16
I've never been called fit in my life
00:08:18
ever I was never like the athletic
00:08:21
person or fit person in school so
00:08:23
honestly that day was just so surreal
00:08:25
for me and that really proved to me that
00:08:27
once I stopped caring about the outcome
00:08:29
and sto being so overly attached to this
00:08:32
dream body that I wanted that was when I
00:08:34
actually achieved it Detachment with
00:08:37
YouTube starting YouTube I really had
00:08:39
zero expectations from the beginning and
00:08:42
I told myself that you know if it takes
00:08:44
me a year to get to my first,
00:08:45
subscribers then fine when I first
00:08:47
started I was doing this just for me as
00:08:50
a passion project to feel like I had
00:08:53
some sort of meaning and purpose in my
00:08:55
life because I was so burnt out from
00:08:57
work at the time just to give a bit more
00:08:58
context I recently left my job that I
00:09:01
was bonded to for the past 3 years and
00:09:03
basically what that means is that if I
00:09:05
were to terminate the contract early so
00:09:08
before the 3 years is up then I would
00:09:09
need to pay a pretty hefty fine of half
00:09:12
a Year's worth of salary when I started
00:09:14
YouTube I was 2 years in and I was burnt
00:09:16
out like crazy I really disliked my job
00:09:19
and I felt so stuck because I mean I
00:09:21
couldn't leave I stopped enjoying things
00:09:23
that I normally do and I just felt so
00:09:26
uninspired and I felt like I wasn't
00:09:27
really learning anything new anymore I
00:09:30
became a zombie going through the
00:09:31
motions YouTube was really something
00:09:33
that I wanted to do for myself to give
00:09:35
myself a purpose again and feel like I
00:09:37
was alive and because I never put
00:09:38
pressure on myself I was really happy
00:09:41
making videos I loved being creative and
00:09:43
feeling like I was on this steep
00:09:45
learning curve where I felt like I was
00:09:47
making progress in some area of my life
00:09:50
and funnily enough I think that was what
00:09:52
accelerated my growth and I reached
00:09:54
1,000 subscribers in like a month or
00:09:57
something crazy like that and then 2
00:09:58
months after that was when I reached 10K
00:10:00
but then when I got to that point that
00:10:02
was when I started to obsess over video
00:10:05
performance and view count this is also
00:10:07
around the time when I started taking on
00:10:09
sponsorships and there was even more
00:10:11
added pressure for my videos to do well
00:10:13
I noticed that was when I plateaued at
00:10:15
10K for several months and that was when
00:10:18
my average view count dropped
00:10:19
dramatically but to be honest the
00:10:21
saddest part for me was that I just
00:10:23
wasn't super proud of the content that I
00:10:26
was making anymore I really didn't feel
00:10:27
good about making videos videos anymore
00:10:30
and I didn't feel connected to the
00:10:32
content I was making and I just felt
00:10:34
like I was churning out stuff for the
00:10:36
sake of it I really had to remind myself
00:10:38
again why I was doing YouTube in the
00:10:40
first place because if I wasn't feeling
00:10:42
good doing it then what was the point in
00:10:43
all of this so then I decided to stop
00:10:45
taking on sponsorships and to really
00:10:47
heal my relationship with YouTube and to
00:10:50
make content that I feel super proud of
00:10:52
in a way that makes me feel really happy
00:10:54
and fulfilled and then funnily enough
00:10:56
once I adopted that mentality that was
00:10:59
when one of my other videos just popped
00:11:01
off randomly to me there was a really
00:11:03
clear correlation between my attitude
00:11:05
towards content creation and the quality
00:11:07
of the content that I was making thank
00:11:09
you guys for watching and I just wanted
00:11:11
to let you know that I won't be posting
00:11:12
for the next couple of weeks or so
00:11:14
because I'll be flying off to Sweden
00:11:17
very soon and I'll probably need some
00:11:19
time to settle down over there and also
00:11:21
to you know set up a nice studio
00:11:23
recording space and if you're new here
00:11:25
basically I quit my job recently and I'm
00:11:27
going to be heading over to Sweden for a
00:11:29
few months to go visit my sister there
00:11:31
and then after Sweden I've got some
00:11:33
really really exciting plans that I
00:11:35
cannot wait to share with you guys but
00:11:37
I'll probably do a big reveal in a
00:11:39
future video so stay tuned for that but
00:11:41
guys I cannot tell you how sad I am to
00:11:43
leave this apartment because I love this
00:11:46
YouTube setup that I currently have at
00:11:48
the moment and it's so sad because I
00:11:50
can't bring any of this over but anyways
00:11:52
I think having a little break will be
00:11:54
really good because it'll give me more
00:11:55
time to sort of plan out awesome content
00:11:58
for you guys and I do have a lot lot of
00:11:59
topics in the back burner that I'm
00:12:01
really excited to start working on and
00:12:02
also if there's a specific topic that
00:12:04
you guys want me to make a video on in
00:12:06
future then please do leave those
00:12:08
suggestions in the comments below I
00:12:10
always read my comments and I love
00:12:12
interacting with you guys okay guys take
00:12:13
care and see you in the next video
