stage for you because I went back um a
  • 00:01:13
few months ago to an incredible event
  • 00:01:16
called momentum in Florida and I got to
  • 00:01:20
hear Cassie speak and I which sounds
  • 00:01:24
crazy saying it like that she she talks
  • 00:01:26
often she speaks often but I got to
  • 00:01:29
actually hear her present um and she is
  • 00:01:32
just so fantastic we've met Cassie a few
  • 00:01:34
times at other you know podcasting and
  • 00:01:36
other different kinds of events but this
  • 00:01:37
was just a really great opportunity to
  • 00:01:40
hear her present on this particular
  • 00:01:41
topic and I know how important marketing
  • 00:01:45
is to podcasters and I think that by and
  • 00:01:48
large many of us are not do not have a
  • 00:01:50
marketing background so we are like we
  • 00:01:52
are content creators we are podcasters
  • 00:01:54
we are video people uh but our expertise
  • 00:01:57
is not necessarily in marketing so I
  • 00:01:58
    think it's a really important topic I'm
  • 00:02:00
glad to have her on she is a podcaster
  • 00:02:02
she's a marketing professional she keeps
  • 00:02:04
chickens so she's she's cooler than the
  • 00:02:06

  • 00:02:22
momentum you and I were both speaking
  • 00:02:24
but I was taking all the kinds of all
  • 00:02:25
the copious notes in the background
  • 00:02:27
while you were presenting I was being
  • 00:02:29
one of those people that was typing and
  • 00:02:30
being like no no but can you send me the
  • 00:02:31
slides I want to my gosh I want to learn
  • 00:02:34
all yeah oh your session was amazing
  • 00:02:37
yeah it was so great I think we met for
  • 00:02:39
the first time all three of us actually
  • 00:02:41
at podfest last year and then it was
  • 00:02:43
such an honor to see Katie again at
  • 00:02:46
momentum and you did a great job Katie I
  • 00:02:48
loved your session right back it's funny
  • 00:02:50
but I always think to myself Cassie
  • 00:02:53
looks like the person who used to work
  • 00:02:54
at Disney and like just tell you hey
  • 00:02:57

  • 00:03:32
yes I was I had a very small presence in
  • 00:03:35
Dolphin Tale 2 very good wow we'll be
  • 00:03:39
right back after this after this break
  • 00:03:41

  • 00:03:44

  • 00:03:50
yeah wow we're gonna have to shat
  • 00:03:52
offline about this H SL thing here doc L
  • 00:03:55
this is called being a podcaster you got
  • 00:03:57
to know some stuff you got to you got to
  • 00:03:59
shake guess and like let them know you
  • 00:04:01
know what's up so that way they can give
  • 00:04:02
you good answers no I'm just I love it
  • 00:04:05
well it works hopefully we'll see what
  • 00:04:08
happen see what happened I tell you
  • 00:04:09
honestly what happened is Katie was
  • 00:04:10
going to be busy but then lucky she got
  • 00:04:12
busy her her um appointment was done and
  • 00:04:14
then I was like oh my goodness I got
  • 00:04:16
like five minutes like I've talked with
  • 00:04:18
Cass before but I got like five minutes
  • 00:04:20
to figure this out and so yesterday I
  • 00:04:22
was ready to have my research and then
  • 00:04:23
KY goes I'm back I'm like oh thank you
  • 00:04:25
so then I'll have to be here by myself I
  • 00:04:27
made doc do uh do pan pic panic mode uh
  • 00:04:31
interview question Panic how dare you
  • 00:04:34
that is well okay it was she's making me
  • 00:04:36
    speak third person I quit
  • 00:04:41
    ah organized Panic organiz organized
  • 00:04:45
Panic organized Panic well I I want to
  • 00:04:48
start I think a little bit um big
  • 00:04:51
picture so I want to start at the
  • 00:04:53
beginning I think a lot of people that
  • 00:04:56
um watch and participate and listen in
  • 00:04:57
this show are people who as I said are
  • 00:05:00
not would not Define themselves as
  • 00:05:02
marketing people and they've you know
  • 00:05:04
they've worked hard to either get their
  • 00:05:07
podcast up and running or they're still
  • 00:05:08
in the kind of the planning phases of
  • 00:05:10
starting their podcast so what are the
  • 00:05:13
what is the first thing people should be
  • 00:05:15
thinking about or starting with when
  • 00:05:17
they are approaching marketing as a
  • 00:05:20
non-marketing person for a podcast or
  • 00:05:23
show yeah so first and foremost I feel
  • 00:05:27
like we talked about this at momentum a
  • 00:05:29
little bit but if you are any sort of
  • 00:05:32
    Creator entrepreneur business owner you
  • 00:05:35
are a marketer in a way because you have
  • 00:05:39
the the goal to Market whatever you're
  • 00:05:41
doing and so a lot of those functions
  • 00:05:44
you take upon yourself and and try to
  • 00:05:45
get the word out about whatever you're
  • 00:05:47
creating so first things first I would
  • 00:05:50
encourage you just to have that
  • 00:05:52
perspective of I am I am capable of
  • 00:05:55
taking on this function and you have the
  • 00:05:57
opportunity to learn and marketing is
  • 00:05:58
    such a vast
  • 00:06:00
world and there's so many ways to go
  • 00:06:01
about it and so also just be encouraged
  • 00:06:04
that there's not a perfect way to Market
  • 00:06:06
your brand or whatever you're doing um
  • 00:06:09
but I think first things first is just
  • 00:06:12
understanding why are you podcasting in
  • 00:06:15
the first place kind of what is that
  • 00:06:16
goal for your show how are you going to
  • 00:06:18
add value to people uh what is the
  • 00:06:21
solution that you're providing maybe and
  • 00:06:23
maybe that solution is even just a form
  • 00:06:25
    of entertainment and getting people
  • 00:06:26
excited about the topic that you're
  • 00:06:28
    you're talking about
  • 00:06:30
um comedy having fun making people laugh
  • 00:06:32
and so what is that thing that you're
  • 00:06:34
trying to do with your show and with
  • 00:06:36
that who are you speaking to so I feel
  • 00:06:38
like a lot of times uh people will start
  • 00:06:41
a show and they don't really know who
  • 00:06:42
they're talking to and so it's really
  • 00:06:44
hard to cater a message and cater
  • 00:06:46
content around something when you don't
  • 00:06:48
know what that consumer is looking for
  • 00:06:51
so doing some research on who is that
  • 00:06:53
person you're speaking to where do they
  • 00:06:56
live what are they looking for kind of
  • 00:06:57
where they at in their Journey with
  • 00:06:59
regards to your brand and what you're
  • 00:07:02
creating and then you can kind of start
  • 00:07:03
to create some messaging around that but
  • 00:07:06
    really having Clarity around your
  • 00:07:08
message and your platform first and
  • 00:07:09
foremost is a really great way to start
  • 00:07:12
and then everything else in terms of
  • 00:07:13
just episode topics Etc are a lot easier
  • 00:07:16
to come up with when you have those
  • 00:07:18
elements locked down dud you know it's
  • 00:07:20
really fantastic um something that Mary
  • 00:07:23
Lou and I did was we took like
  • 00:07:25
transcripts from five episodes and then
  • 00:07:28
I saved them into a document I fed them
  • 00:07:30
to Chad and I was like Chad uh based off
  • 00:07:33
of these transcripts who would you say
  • 00:07:35
our customer Avatar is and yo homie
  • 00:07:38
nailed it like nailed it perfectly and
  • 00:07:41
then I said okay well let me know from
  • 00:07:44
this if there any gaps in the the
  • 00:07:48
conversation like who should I be
  • 00:07:50
talking to that I'm not and it was like
  • 00:07:53
well at this moment you know nothing cuz
  • 00:07:55
I think you got to cuz we say it all the
  • 00:07:57
time in our show I think we knew it was
  • 00:07:59
before we started and saying for this
  • 00:08:01
show we knew what it was before we
  • 00:08:02
started but still it's always good just
  • 00:08:05
to make sure that you're doing it right
  • 00:08:07
so if you have this idea in your head
  • 00:08:09
that my ideal Avatar is Cassie you could
  • 00:08:13
take your transcripts and run against
  • 00:08:14
the llm and if that doesn't sound like
  • 00:08:17
Cassie then you're not saying what you
  • 00:08:19
    said you was going to
  • 00:08:21
say it's so true we have all these tools
  • 00:08:24
available to us right now and it it is
  • 00:08:27
amazing like I I have been doing more
  • 00:08:29
and more of this lately um in many in
  • 00:08:32
many cases because we keep talking about
  • 00:08:34
here on the show and I'm like well I
  • 00:08:35
should make sure that like I'm I'm doing
  • 00:08:37
the things that we're recommending and
  • 00:08:38
I'm trying things out and seeing kind of
  • 00:08:40
where those questions come and it it is
  • 00:08:42
amazing like we're we're pretty close
  • 00:08:44
but every time that I do this and I've
  • 00:08:45
now been doing it on a regular basis
  • 00:08:47
like asking asking chat GPT or Claude or
  • 00:08:50
you know any of these AI tools to kind
  • 00:08:51
of reconfirm what I believe to be true
  • 00:08:54
    and there is
  • 00:08:56
always some small thing that I've missed
  • 00:08:58
or like some some small like Behavior or
  • 00:09:02
like audience um Persona like you know a
  • 00:09:06
fact of the audience Persona that maybe
  • 00:09:08
I wasn't thinking of or like or it will
  • 00:09:11
tell me like you know these are the
  • 00:09:12
these are the pain points of this
  • 00:09:13
audience or these are the things that
  • 00:09:14
this audience really cares about and
  • 00:09:16
it's like I've done episodes on two of
  • 00:09:18
the three but not as much on the third
  • 00:09:20
topic so it is I think a helpful
  • 00:09:22
practice to even when you know your
  • 00:09:24
audience and even when you know kind of
  • 00:09:26
your mission and why you're why you're
  • 00:09:28
doing the show why doing creating this
  • 00:09:30
content I think just using these tools
  • 00:09:33
is almost like a sounding board to be
  • 00:09:34
like hey am I hitting the mark with this
  • 00:09:37
and where am I not hitting the mark with
  • 00:09:38
this is a really smart way to take
  • 00:09:40
advantage of of a lot of the AI tools
  • 00:09:42
out there see you know what Cassie I
  • 00:09:44
have a question for you so I in our in
  • 00:09:47
my group right we just call Seth the
  • 00:09:49
goat because he is my hero and Seth says
  • 00:09:52
marketing is the generous Act of like
  • 00:09:54
helping someone solve their problems so
  • 00:09:57
how do you find what are the pain points
  • 00:10:01
for your clients to solve for their
  • 00:10:04
    marketing people customer people
  • 00:10:06
whatever you know what I'm trying to
  • 00:10:08
say yeah yeah yeah they're customer
  • 00:10:11
    people in the morning over
  • 00:10:13
here yeah I know I know for sure shoot
  • 00:10:17
    it's early for me it's like 12 o'clock
  • 00:10:19
and I'm my brain's just waking up here
  • 00:10:22
um yeah so this is this is a loaded
  • 00:10:25
topic here and I was I was going to
  • 00:10:26
mention I loved your guys's idea just
  • 00:10:28
about kind of going to chat GPT and
  • 00:10:30
having a conversation there chat is like
  • 00:10:33
my go-to virtual assistant so just being
  • 00:10:35
able to have a conversation and think
  • 00:10:37
about some of those things that I have
  • 00:10:38
not considered before is has been huge
  • 00:10:41
in my process but I personally love the
  • 00:10:44
story brand framework so I kind of use
  • 00:10:46
an iteration I use an iteration of it
  • 00:10:49
and the cool thing about chat GPT is you
  • 00:10:51
can train chat GPT to think about that
  • 00:10:55
framework um and so that takes just a
  • 00:10:57
little bit of time to kind of train it
  • 00:10:59
and that way and you can use that as a
  • 00:11:01
as a process just for any uh podcast
  • 00:11:04
you're coming up with any client that
  • 00:11:06
you're working with but specifically the
  • 00:11:08
pain point so that takes a bit of
  • 00:11:10
research uh for sure and so one of the
  • 00:11:13
things that I'll do is yes I'll tap into
  • 00:11:16
chat GPT that's a huge part of my
  • 00:11:17
    process just literally asking the
  • 00:11:19
platform hey this is the person that I'm
  • 00:11:21
speaking to what do they struggle with
  • 00:11:24
in and coming up with this
  • 00:11:25
    transformation or going through this
  • 00:11:27
    transformation that I'm offering them
  • 00:11:28
with my product or service um one way to
  • 00:11:32
do it to you can kind of work backwards
  • 00:11:33
so thinking about your solution and the
  • 00:11:36
thing that you offer what are some of
  • 00:11:38
the uh pain points that someone has when
  • 00:11:40
it comes to that solution or that would
  • 00:11:43
cause them to seek the solution that
  • 00:11:45
you're offering uh so that can be one
  • 00:11:47
way to look at it too but really for me
  • 00:11:50
the other thing that I always suggest
  • 00:11:51
people to do is just speak directly with
  • 00:11:53
    your target market have conversations
  • 00:11:55
with them almost do a survey and just
  • 00:11:58
ask them hey what are you facing what
  • 00:11:59
are you struggling with right now and
  • 00:12:02
why would you go to seek this product or
  • 00:12:04
solution that I'm offering uh what is
  • 00:12:06
some of the messaging that resonates
  • 00:12:08
with you what doesn't resonate with you
  • 00:12:10
what transformation are you looking to
  • 00:12:12
go through uh in order to get out on the
  • 00:12:15
other side positively so for me the
  • 00:12:17
biggest thing that I found is just
  • 00:12:19
    having those direct conversations
  • 00:12:20
because a lot of times Katie you kind of
  • 00:12:23
mention this but the way that we think
  • 00:12:25
something should be messaged a lot of
  • 00:12:27
times is a little bit off from what our
  • 00:12:29
consumer might be looking for or might
  • 00:12:31
resonate with them and sometimes it just
  • 00:12:33
takes a quick optimization or tweak in
  • 00:12:37
our messaging but until we actually have
  • 00:12:39
    conversations with those consumers to
  • 00:12:41
    really understand what they're thinking
  • 00:12:43
about and what they're looking for it
  • 00:12:45
could just be a matter of a of a couple
  • 00:12:47
things or a couple different ways to
  • 00:12:49
look at uh that messaging or that
  • 00:12:52
problem and how we're providing a
  • 00:12:54
solution to them nice yeah absolutely
  • 00:12:57
can you talk a little bit just I'm sure
  • 00:12:59
that some people who are watching or
  • 00:13:01
listening may not be familiar with that
  • 00:13:03
framework can you talk a little bit
  • 00:13:04
about the details of it and what it
  • 00:13:05
looks like um we have a saying in New
  • 00:13:07
    York get
  • 00:13:09
familiar let's all get familiar together
  • 00:13:11
    with this framework yes oh I'm a I'm a
  • 00:13:15
huge fan of it so for me just a little
  • 00:13:17
bit of background I worked at Disney
  • 00:13:19
storytelling is like my thing I love
  • 00:13:22
storytelling it's also it's also proven
  • 00:13:25
to work well in in a marketing sense um
  • 00:13:29
and so one of the things that Donald
  • 00:13:30
Miller the creator of this framework
  • 00:13:32
talks through his book story brand which
  • 00:13:35
I highly recommend reading if you have
  • 00:13:37
not is the power of story and why it
  • 00:13:39
works and kind of tapping into Hollywood
  • 00:13:41
and how uh the sequence of a movie is
  • 00:13:43
created and how people are attracted to
  • 00:13:46
that kind of Storytelling and how we can
  • 00:13:48
Infuse that into our brand so the story
  • 00:13:51
brand framework uh they have a free
  • 00:13:53
    framework worksheet available online so
  • 00:13:56
that's something you can uh download and
  • 00:13:57
kind of take a look at but in a nutshell
  • 00:14:00
it talks through uh the consumer who is
  • 00:14:03
the hero of your story and the problem
  • 00:14:05
that they are facing and how you can
  • 00:14:07
walk them through that problem to get
  • 00:14:09
them to the other side aka the
  • 00:14:11
    transformation that you're offering uh
  • 00:14:13
so it goes into detail of who is that
  • 00:14:16
hero who is that consumer um where do
  • 00:14:19
they live what are they looking for what
  • 00:14:20
    are those demographic or psychographic
  • 00:14:23
uh details who are you as the guide in
  • 00:14:25
the hero's Story You're you as the brand
  • 00:14:28
are walking them through again that
  • 00:14:30
story of transformation so what are the
  • 00:14:32
details of your brand how do you
  • 00:14:34
empathize with the consumer uh how do
  • 00:14:37
you have authority in your space so
  • 00:14:39
tapping into some of those accolades and
  • 00:14:41
your past experience um and then what
  • 00:14:43
does that transformation look like so
  • 00:14:45
when someone comes out on the other side
  • 00:14:47
what does their life look like how is it
  • 00:14:49
better because they have uh worked with
  • 00:14:51
you as the service provider and then if
  • 00:14:53
they don't work with you what does that
  • 00:14:56
negative outcome look like and so after
  • 00:14:59
    completing that story brand framework
  • 00:15:00
for your brand you kind of have this
  • 00:15:03
overall guide or skeleton for messaging
  • 00:15:06
that you can use for your website for
  • 00:15:09
email marketing for social media Etc but
  • 00:15:12
it really gets you into a really good
  • 00:15:13
mindset for how you should be speaking
  • 00:15:15
to your consumer again I kind of use a
  • 00:15:18
version of it so again I talked about
  • 00:15:20
how in in marketing there really isn't a
  • 00:15:22
perfect way to Market so kind of taking
  • 00:15:25
some of these tools and using it as a
  • 00:15:28
foundational gu sideline to just kind of
  • 00:15:30
step forward and you'll learn over time
  • 00:15:32
what works what doesn't and a lot of
  • 00:15:34
times you'll learn that through having
  • 00:15:35
    those conversations with your consumers
  • 00:15:37
over time yeah listen people I want you
  • 00:15:40
guys to really pay attention to this
  • 00:15:42
because anybody that's been around here
  • 00:15:44
imagine this concept right there's a
  • 00:15:46
reluctant hero who has this power within
  • 00:15:50
them that they need to get out and they
  • 00:15:52
try and try and try but they can't
  • 00:15:54
really find it cuz they don't really
  • 00:15:55
realize they have this power and then
  • 00:15:57
they me some 700 year old green Jedi
  • 00:16:01
that talks to them in weird language and
  • 00:16:03
then eventually they put out a show that
  • 00:16:06
crushes it my story brand is freaking
  • 00:16:09
Star Wars I've been doing it effectively
  • 00:16:11
    for years and absolutely freaking
  • 00:16:13
    crushing
  • 00:16:14
it I can see I can show you the Jedi
  • 00:16:17
there are Jedi in the chat right now
  • 00:16:19
    Paul
  • 00:16:20
Duncan reluctant hero ran into the 700
  • 00:16:24
year old wise person that talks in
  • 00:16:26
circles and then all of a sudden they
  • 00:16:28
out here running things ladies and
  • 00:16:29
gentlemen I me introduce you Jedi Paul
  • 00:16:33
Duncan it is that actually is a really
  • 00:16:35
great way to to think about it DOC like
  • 00:16:38
I is we could go on a list Marshall uh
  • 00:16:41
and you could think about like but you
  • 00:16:44
could think about like your putting your
  • 00:16:48
your business your show into the lens of
  • 00:16:52
some of your favorite movies and seeing
  • 00:16:54
like what like what story lines work or
  • 00:16:56
don't work because I I think we all go
  • 00:16:57
through these phases of like you know we
  • 00:17:00
learned something new maybe you've just
  • 00:17:01
    heard about this particular framework
  • 00:17:02
and you're trying to process like okay
  • 00:17:04
how do I you know apply that to me and
  • 00:17:07
my personal show and I think what's
  • 00:17:09
great about this specific one is that
  • 00:17:12
almost everyone has seen a movie almost
  • 00:17:14
everyone has a favorite movie in some
  • 00:17:16
way or another right or a series of
  • 00:17:17
favorite movies so this this actually is
  • 00:17:20
probably one of the easiest ones to
  • 00:17:21
    approach because storytelling is so
  • 00:17:24
Universal and you know and Hollywood is
  • 00:17:26
so kind of immediately identifiable and
  • 00:17:28
what they do and how they do it that I
  • 00:17:30
think even if you're like even if you
  • 00:17:32
don't want to go through the practice of
  • 00:17:34
like creating Your Own Story you could
  • 00:17:36
definitely as doca just swipe one of the
  • 00:17:38
other ones and see how the pieces fit in
  • 00:17:40
and what pieces you might be missing so
  • 00:17:41
I think great the Tim of saving this
  • 00:17:44
show for today is kind of perfect
  • 00:17:46
    because Cassie's here and everybody's
  • 00:17:48
going to have some time for the weekend
  • 00:17:50
and your family's going to get your
  • 00:17:51
nerves and you need to go some hide
  • 00:17:52
somewhere Donald Miller the inventor of
  • 00:17:55
story brand Donald Miller is a very
  • 00:17:57
prolific Creator so he's all over
  • 00:17:59
YouTube and a lot of people like Cassie
  • 00:18:01
talking about his method on YouTube the
  • 00:18:03
uh was it Dennis merant Merchant
  • 00:18:05
whatever this the Pixar method also
  • 00:18:08
heavily heavily talked about so you can
  • 00:18:10
study up on those two or you can cheat
  • 00:18:12
and just tell uh llm uh no notebook LM
  • 00:18:16
    here's here's the story book PDF here's
  • 00:18:18
a couple of the articles I found uh
  • 00:18:20
teach me story method in a couple give
  • 00:18:23
episode and and it will it will generate
  • 00:18:25
you something that you can listen to
  • 00:18:27
while you hide from your family in the
  • 00:18:28
backyard with a sippy whiskey um like
  • 00:18:31
the book is skinny enough that if you
  • 00:18:33
order it on Prime today you can get it
  • 00:18:35
by Thursday and you can have that book
  • 00:18:37
read by Friday it's like yo big but it
  • 00:18:40
is very brilliant so Cass thank you for
  • 00:18:43
for like putting people onto that
  • 00:18:44
because it is a big one it's one of my
  • 00:18:46
favorite books absolutely yes it is and
  • 00:18:49
the cool thing about it too it not only
  • 00:18:51
walks you through the framework but it
  • 00:18:52
also it's been a minute since I've read
  • 00:18:54
the book however I believe it also tells
  • 00:18:56
you kind of their website framework that
  • 00:18:58
they recommend and everything so it's a
  • 00:19:00
very actionable book you can kind of go
  • 00:19:02
through it almost like a workbook itself
  • 00:19:04
and follow the steps you know pause
  • 00:19:05
reading it make an iteration on your
  • 00:19:08
website or whatever and then keep moving
  • 00:19:09
    forward it's it's amazing highly
  • 00:19:13
recommend what you see timing is good
  • 00:19:15
for it what do you see is like maybe the
  • 00:19:18
biggest gap for the majority of the
  • 00:19:21
    people trying to Market their
  • 00:19:24
podcast oo that's a great question got
  • 00:19:28
that see that we had this conversation 3
  • 00:19:30
weeks ago if I can make the guest say
  • 00:19:33
    that that's that's what you're looking
  • 00:19:34
for stop stop affirming stop stroking
  • 00:19:36
dark's ego I'm just saying hey we did
  • 00:19:39
this episode on how to ask questions and
  • 00:19:41
that is the reaction you're looking for
  • 00:19:43
we did it's true one one on Cassie yes
  • 00:19:47
okay so the biggest Gap when it comes to
  • 00:19:50
marketing your podcast okay so man so
  • 00:19:54
    there's a couple things I think number
  • 00:19:56
one Clarity of your m messaging across
  • 00:19:59
the podcast channels is is so incredibly
  • 00:20:03
important and obviously there's an SEO
  • 00:20:05
element with keywords and everything for
  • 00:20:07
the platforms so making sure that's
  • 00:20:09
included um I know a lot of times we get
  • 00:20:11
really clever with our podcast names and
  • 00:20:14
that's cool but if if you have a clever
  • 00:20:16
podcast name have a tagline or something
  • 00:20:19
that just clarifies exactly who that
  • 00:20:21
shows for kind of what you're doing what
  • 00:20:23
the goal of that is so people know you
  • 00:20:25
    know when they're scrolling their
  • 00:20:26
platforms immediately okay this show is
  • 00:20:29
about XYZ I need this let me start
  • 00:20:31
listening so that from the ground up is
  • 00:20:34
is really important just Clarity overall
  • 00:20:37
I think really just being as present on
  • 00:20:39
a number of different platforms as
  • 00:20:41
possible if you have the means to
  • 00:20:43
develop a website or at least a landing
  • 00:20:45
page on your Brand's website for uh your
  • 00:20:48
podcast that's really important uh put
  • 00:20:51
together blog post for each of your
  • 00:20:53
    episodes again discoverability online is
  • 00:20:56
huge and so have a little bit of uh
  • 00:20:58
extended content for people to read as
  • 00:21:01
they're consuming your show have a
  • 00:21:02
podcast player on there um social media
  • 00:21:06
is another thing and I am speaking to
  • 00:21:08
myself when I talk about this because I
  • 00:21:11
need to get better at my social media
  • 00:21:12
marketing for my podcast however social
  • 00:21:15
is a really good way to expand your
  • 00:21:18
reach and start to build community
  • 00:21:19
around your podcast so pull out some of
  • 00:21:22
those video Snippets you know use eam
  • 00:21:24
create some video content around your
  • 00:21:26
show and post those onine line give
  • 00:21:29
people kind of a teaser and something to
  • 00:21:30
look forward to with that episode use a
  • 00:21:32
hook at the beginning of those short
  • 00:21:34
video clips to kind of reel them in and
  • 00:21:37
and share some value uh through those
  • 00:21:39
and get them to want to listen more um
  • 00:21:41
so consistency across channels and I
  • 00:21:44
think this is something uh our friend
  • 00:21:46
Lum Melo talks about all the time but
  • 00:21:48
allowing people to have a place to
  • 00:21:50
connect uh outside of the podcast as
  • 00:21:52
well so he has an amazing uh Facebook
  • 00:21:55
group uh but there's a number of
  • 00:21:56
different channels that you can do to uh
  • 00:21:59
Foster those connections and it gets
  • 00:22:02
people starting to talk internally even
  • 00:22:04
outside of you needing to be a part of
  • 00:22:06
those conversations and that's a really
  • 00:22:08
beautiful thing when you get to the
  • 00:22:09
point where your community is literally
  • 00:22:11
growing on its own without you having to
  • 00:22:13
be a part of that um but there's a
  • 00:22:16
number of different things I think
  • 00:22:17
    consistency just of your podcast
  • 00:22:19
episodes is another one if you have the
  • 00:22:21
ability to post- weekly do it obviously
  • 00:22:24
don't overwhelm yourself too much pod
  • 00:22:26
fade is very real and the number one
  • 00:22:29
reason I I think people stop podcasting
  • 00:22:31
is because it is a ton of work um so
  • 00:22:34
iterate and optimized over time but
  • 00:22:36
    consistency of messaging Clarity of
  • 00:22:38
    messaging consist consistency excuse me
  • 00:22:41
of content um and then just overtime
  • 00:22:43
growth will continue to gain from there
  • 00:22:46
but it takes time so have patience with
  • 00:22:47
yourself and have patience with your
  • 00:22:49
content too but don't uh don't be afraid
  • 00:22:52
to just change and grow and iterate over
  • 00:22:55
time the way that you launch your
  • 00:22:56
podcast at the very beginning the way
  • 00:22:58
that you Market it at the very beginning
  • 00:23:00
does not have to be that way forever so
  • 00:23:02
don't be afraid to try new things and
  • 00:23:04
just test yeah I think that's so huge
  • 00:23:07
and I'm I'm totally G to um I will speak
  • 00:23:10
generally because I cannot remember the
  • 00:23:11
specific the specific numbers but um but
  • 00:23:14
Lou had presented at momentum which is
  • 00:23:17
his event that we've been talking about
  • 00:23:19
um the the actual like metrics on
  • 00:23:22
podcast like downloads and listens and
  • 00:23:25
it I think what really gets to a lot of
  • 00:23:27
people present company included is that
  • 00:23:30
there are all of these different metrics
  • 00:23:32
that we're using to judge whether or not
  • 00:23:34
our show is successful but a lot of them
  • 00:23:37
are incredibly deceiving like we have a
  • 00:23:40
number in the back of our head whether
  • 00:23:42
or not we want to be honest about it we
  • 00:23:44
have a number in the back of our head
  • 00:23:46
that we think other shows are hitting
  • 00:23:48
and we're like and we feel as though
  • 00:23:50
there's a huge Chasm between where we
  • 00:23:51
are and where these other shows are and
  • 00:23:53
I will find the I will ask Lou to send
  • 00:23:55
this to me and I will I will share these
  • 00:23:57
numbers with you because because I it
  • 00:23:59
was really staggering even for me to see
  • 00:24:01
that like my my just for fun personal
  • 00:24:04
podcast was performing like as well as
  • 00:24:08
like in the same kind of bucket of like
  • 00:24:10
good well performing shows and I never
  • 00:24:13
would have guessed that like I the the
  • 00:24:14
numbers I the update is but it used to
  • 00:24:17
be if more than 178 person listen to an
  • 00:24:20
episode you are in the top 2 3% of
  • 00:24:24
podcasts right wow yeah it's a really
  • 00:24:26
    low number
  • 00:24:28
ER than you think yeah which is crazy so
  • 00:24:30
it I think it's like everything you just
  • 00:24:32
said Cassie is really important that
  • 00:24:34
like it's it's okay to make changes and
  • 00:24:37
it's okay to kind of take you know take
  • 00:24:38
a look at what's working and not working
  • 00:24:40
and you be focused on your original
  • 00:24:42
goals but I just want to also say to
  • 00:24:44
everyone that uh I think a lot of the
  • 00:24:46
like whether or not we've written it
  • 00:24:48
down like a lot of the internal feelings
  • 00:24:50
that we have around some of these goals
  • 00:24:52
may not actually be accurate so so it's
  • 00:24:55
really important to like accept those
  • 00:24:57
small wins and that small movement
  • 00:24:59
forward like and you know and keep it
  • 00:25:02
keep track of those cuz you're right I
  • 00:25:03
    think just consistently being there
  • 00:25:06
putting in the work growing that
  • 00:25:07
audience growing that Community uh and
  • 00:25:10
showing up is all hard work and it does
  • 00:25:12
pay off but it pays off over time and
  • 00:25:15
the percentage of growth is probably a
  • 00:25:17
lot lower than you think is successful
  • 00:25:19
and that's not true you are wi you
  • 00:25:21
winning and you just don't even realize
  • 00:25:23
it that's so true and I think that's
  • 00:25:26
also important to your point Point Katie
  • 00:25:28
of having this like greater purpose
  • 00:25:31
around why you're doing what you're
  • 00:25:32
doing because you know numbers income
  • 00:25:37
all this stuff it will come and go it
  • 00:25:39
will go up and down all the time and if
  • 00:25:41
we use that as kind of a benchmark for
  • 00:25:44
whether or not to keep going or to quit
  • 00:25:46
or not I mean we're going to fade real
  • 00:25:48
fast and so for me I'm going to be
  • 00:25:50
honest like it's it's been hard over the
  • 00:25:53
last three years of doing my show
  • 00:25:54
there's been a lot of ups and downs
  • 00:25:56
there's been a lot of questions I've had
  • 00:25:57
to ask myself about you know is this the
  • 00:26:00
right thing or whatever but 99% of the
  • 00:26:04
time I go back to thinking about the
  • 00:26:06
people that I'm able to help and impact
  • 00:26:08
and that keeps me going like I no
  • 00:26:10
question I'm like okay like it's all
  • 00:26:13
good stuff past it's fine and exactly I
  • 00:26:16
just got to say Cassie you are winning
  • 00:26:19
all the points today like I don't know
  • 00:26:21
I'm sending this Christmas gift all I
  • 00:26:23
ever scream at these people the B is
  • 00:26:25
figure out what your purpose is
  • 00:26:26
    otherwise you're spinning wheels
  • 00:26:27
everybody like oh go with your passion
  • 00:26:29
passion was my ex we thought it was cool
  • 00:26:31
I don't even like we don't talk to each
  • 00:26:33
other you know what I'm saying passions
  • 00:26:34
go away purpose is real like purpose is
  • 00:26:38
real right and I keep all I tell them
  • 00:26:40
look you got to figure out your purpose
  • 00:26:41
well I don't know what it is well figure
  • 00:26:42
it out well how do you do that you know
  • 00:26:45
if it was that simple bro I would sell
  • 00:26:46
it like if it was that simple I would
  • 00:26:48
sell it I would be zerber but seriously
  • 00:26:50
you can you can do the work and you can
  • 00:26:52
figure out what your purpose is and it
  • 00:26:53
hits you like a ton of bricks once you
  • 00:26:55
know and then it's glorious all right so
  • 00:26:57
James asked the question question and I
  • 00:27:00
got James wants to know what insights
  • 00:27:02
have you learned while hosting the
  • 00:27:04
    Universal Studios podcast that could
  • 00:27:06
    translate to us early stage
  • 00:27:09
    podcasters great question James deep
  • 00:27:11
Cuts deep Cuts that's a great question
  • 00:27:14
yes oh man okay so I'll preface that
  • 00:27:18
obviously a very corporate podcast is
  • 00:27:21
quite different from what we creators do
  • 00:27:23
right um however I think the biggest
  • 00:27:27
thing that I have learned from that is
  • 00:27:29
really paying attention to what the fans
  • 00:27:32
want uh Universal has a bunch of fans uh
  • 00:27:36
there's a ton of part goers each year
  • 00:27:38
and so we the way that we think about a
  • 00:27:41
topic that we're diving into is very
  • 00:27:43
different from what a consumer talks uh
  • 00:27:45
is thinking about we kind of already
  • 00:27:46
talked about this but um really engaging
  • 00:27:49
the consumers and the fans in asking for
  • 00:27:52
questions asking for feedback what do
  • 00:27:54
you want to hear what question do you
  • 00:27:56
    have about Universal Epic Universe
  • 00:27:58
opening next year uh because again we
  • 00:28:00
are so uh deep and thick in the woods of
  • 00:28:03
a topic that some things that a a new
  • 00:28:07
consumer to the brand may think about is
  • 00:28:09
something we would never consider and so
  • 00:28:11
allowing them to be a part of that
  • 00:28:13
process and helping to shape that
  • 00:28:15
content um and then I think the other
  • 00:28:17
thing too is just what we already talked
  • 00:28:19
about as well is just optimizing and
  • 00:28:21
iterating over time this show has gone
  • 00:28:24
through so many different iterations and
  • 00:28:26
it's all because we have put something
  • 00:28:27
out out there we've listened to the fans
  • 00:28:30
we've listened to the data we've looked
  • 00:28:32
at the insights and we've been able to
  • 00:28:34
use that as a way to shift and move
  • 00:28:36
forward and I think just being open and
  • 00:28:38
transparent about those shifts so you
  • 00:28:41
don't have to tell people too much about
  • 00:28:43
what's happening behind the scenes but
  • 00:28:44
letting them know hey look out for this
  • 00:28:46
change or look out for this new style of
  • 00:28:49
    content we're putting together or
  • 00:28:50
whatever so I think just humanizing the
  • 00:28:53
brand as much as possible it's a lot
  • 00:28:54
harder from a corporate level podcast
  • 00:28:57
but just allowing people to be a part of
  • 00:28:59
the process with you uh growing that
  • 00:29:02
connection with them and that's that's
  • 00:29:04
really the biggest things I've taken
  • 00:29:06
away you know we heard you it's simple
  • 00:29:08
we heard you and now we're going to do
  • 00:29:10
this like people love to hear that they
  • 00:29:12
got H right and and I like this great
  • 00:29:14
with kid and Glenn is you guys will ask
  • 00:29:16
for a feature and they'll put it out
  • 00:29:19
just say hey we heard you guys and uh
  • 00:29:20
you guys requested this this is where
  • 00:29:22
we're going to put in and we didn't even
  • 00:29:23
think about it you know like give them
  • 00:29:25
the the credit or the response that you
  • 00:29:27
know are listening and we are going to
  • 00:29:29
give you what you're asking for and then
  • 00:29:31
they're in like they're in like Flynn so
  • 00:29:34
that's quite very good very good we're
  • 00:29:37
    winning today
  • 00:29:39
yeah said I love love love this episode
  • 00:29:43
Punchy days are the best kind of days
  • 00:29:45
well I have um I I was joking before we
  • 00:29:47
jumped on that I I only ever bring
  • 00:29:49
people on to ask my own questions so
  • 00:29:51
that I get selfish interview host so in
  • 00:29:54
the phase of selfish interview host I
  • 00:29:56
feel like I often know the right things
  • 00:30:00
to do but default when I get busy down
  • 00:30:04
to just checking boxes and getting stuff
  • 00:30:06
done and it particularly when it comes
  • 00:30:09
to um probably a little bit more on the
  • 00:30:11
social media side than on than in other
  • 00:30:14
    marketing channels but it's very
  • 00:30:17
difficult for me to kind of battle the
  • 00:30:20
um just come and listen to my show just
  • 00:30:21
come and watch my show just like you
  • 00:30:24
know just come back and and listen to it
  • 00:30:26
so I guess my question is is do you have
  • 00:30:29
any tips or tricks on trying to get out
  • 00:30:33
like get out of that habit or you know
  • 00:30:35
or to figure out what ways would be
  • 00:30:38
successful so that you can get into like
  • 00:30:40
a better routine of creating better
  • 00:30:44
content yeah so this and this is
  • 00:30:47
    something I've definitely faced too
  • 00:30:49
Katie so you are not alone in this I
  • 00:30:51
know I'm not alone in this yeah yeah um
  • 00:30:54
I so I think for me is I've had to kind
  • 00:30:59
    of schedule regular check-ins with
  • 00:31:01
myself of just kind of sitting down
  • 00:31:04
analyzing okay this is the current
  • 00:31:06
production process this is how I'm
  • 00:31:07
currently marketing the show this is how
  • 00:31:10
    I'm currently building Community
  • 00:31:11
literally every function Under the Sun
  • 00:31:14
that you currently have with your show
  • 00:31:15
schedule regular check-ins like I will
  • 00:31:17
literally block my calendar off for a
  • 00:31:20
whole entire day and dedicate it to
  • 00:31:22
doing an audit of what I'm currently
  • 00:31:24
doing and coming up with a plan forward
  • 00:31:27
I think the other thing that makes that
  • 00:31:29
a little bit easier too is documenting
  • 00:31:31
literally everything so I'm a big sop
  • 00:31:34
fan standard operating procedure so I'll
  • 00:31:37
write down literally this is the current
  • 00:31:39
way that I am producing promoting Etc a
  • 00:31:43
episode and so when I'm able to kind of
  • 00:31:45
sit down and do those regular audits I
  • 00:31:48
can look at that uh sop and make you
  • 00:31:51
know iterations and whatnot to that um
  • 00:31:54
but I think that's the biggest thing for
  • 00:31:56
me specific ially I'm a calendar person
  • 00:31:59
so if it is not scheduled it is not
  • 00:32:01
going to happen and so I have had to be
  • 00:32:05
    very intentional about blocking that
  • 00:32:07
time and kind of sitting with um the
  • 00:32:10
current scope and and Outlook of
  • 00:32:13
something and being able to kind of like
  • 00:32:14
fully focus on that for and it doesn't
  • 00:32:17
have to be a day it could be you know
  • 00:32:18
two hours or whatever but just um
  • 00:32:21
scheduling that in has been the biggest
  • 00:32:23
thing and not being too married to the
  • 00:32:28
current way things are um I know we all
  • 00:32:31
like love what we're building and
  • 00:32:33
everything and I think there's certain
  • 00:32:34
things at least for me that are
  • 00:32:35
non-negotiables but also being open to
  • 00:32:38
changing and uh everything like that but
  • 00:32:41
I think just making sure it happens
  • 00:32:43
    being very intentional about that
  • 00:32:45
treating your podcast um for example as
  • 00:32:48
a client like literally putting the
  • 00:32:51
amount of intention into your show and
  • 00:32:53
what you're building as you would with a
  • 00:32:55
client or someone that's paying you I
  • 00:32:56
know a lot of times like we're not
  • 00:32:58
making money podcasting yet um you can
  • 00:33:01
get there however even if it's not
  • 00:33:03
making money yet still treating it as a
  • 00:33:05
very very important priority and setting
  • 00:33:08
the time aside to work on that and to
  • 00:33:11
create that social content post it you
  • 00:33:13
know try new things uh Etc yeah I think
  • 00:33:17
that's hugely important you and I sound
  • 00:33:18
very similar if it's not on my calendar
  • 00:33:20
    it's not getting
  • 00:33:22
done this is really hard to explain
  • 00:33:24
super fast but it's something that I've
  • 00:33:26
been teaching to my people and I I kind
  • 00:33:28
of just started go on Apple calendar and
  • 00:33:31
make three brand new calendars and
  • 00:33:32
you're going to name them power recovery
  • 00:33:35
and honesty okay because I have a thing
  • 00:33:38
that I call block it lock it and rock it
  • 00:33:40
right you block that time you lock it in
  • 00:33:42
you make it non-negotiable and you rock
  • 00:33:44
it you do the work right then that's it
  • 00:33:46
you have to do this if you don't your
  • 00:33:48
    family your friends your chicken
  • 00:33:50
somebody will get in your way okay so
  • 00:33:53
yeah in the power block is when you're
  • 00:33:55
actively working on your business you're
  • 00:33:56
doing something that imp proves your
  • 00:33:58
business right the recovery block is the
  • 00:34:01
time you just take for yourself like and
  • 00:34:03
you have to put them in so that consider
  • 00:34:04
sleep going to the gym walking reading a
  • 00:34:07
book doing whatever teny sipping whiskey
  • 00:34:09
dispensary whatever your swag is and
  • 00:34:12
then the honesty block is where Cassie
  • 00:34:13
just said where you do your recovery and
  • 00:34:15
your check-in and you be absolutely
  • 00:34:17
honest with yourself and you actually
  • 00:34:19
keep score of how many times you took
  • 00:34:21
away from your power block to do
  • 00:34:23
something that wasn't in the power block
  • 00:34:26
and then all you do with those is you
  • 00:34:28
draw them on the calendar you don't have
  • 00:34:30
to put any event you just take that
  • 00:34:31
block and you literally just label it
  • 00:34:34
honesty and you drag it out and you
  • 00:34:37
that's where you sit down for that time
  • 00:34:38
you say to do your review in your power
  • 00:34:40
block that's where you put in anything
  • 00:34:42
you're doing for work any marketing in
  • 00:34:44
this show right here where you'd be
  • 00:34:45
guesting that's all in your power block
  • 00:34:46
    because that's all improving your
  • 00:34:47
business and then in your recovery
  • 00:34:49
blocks I started at sleep so you can
  • 00:34:51
even start paying attention to your
  • 00:34:53
sleep so I bought a sleep tracker and I
  • 00:34:54
was like oh those are stupid no they're
  • 00:34:55
not because I'm actually sleeping better
  • 00:34:57
    now
  • 00:34:58
you know what I mean it's not really
  • 00:35:00
about the stats or your oxygen or
  • 00:35:01
whatever it's like I I'd like to see me
  • 00:35:04
close the circles and it's dumb as it is
  • 00:35:06
I would go to bed at a normal time now
  • 00:35:09
instead of staying up to 3:00 in the
  • 00:35:10
    morning vegging on something really
  • 00:35:13
crazy and then Katie's like oh you got
  • 00:35:15
to do this thing at five huh what yeah
  • 00:35:19
so yeah and I I as I Define it more I
  • 00:35:22
will turn it into like a PDF all you
  • 00:35:24
people who insist on having it hard but
  • 00:35:26
it's literally draw colorful boxes in
  • 00:35:28
your calendar a paper calendar is good
  • 00:35:30
for this because you can use highlighter
  • 00:35:32
and washi tape also works the one the I
  • 00:35:36
love washi tape you're speaking my
  • 00:35:37
language but the one thing that I I
  • 00:35:39
would add to that and this was I was
  • 00:35:41
doing a a training with um with cat Mill
  • 00:35:43
so shout out to cat because this this
  • 00:35:45
one part blew my mind I realized that
  • 00:35:47
I'm the person that I will always uh
  • 00:35:51
screw myself over when it comes to
  • 00:35:53
blocking time like if I've blocked time
  • 00:35:55
off and it's just me on my count
  • 00:35:57
    calendar I totally give myself
  • 00:35:59
permission to be like well I'm going to
  • 00:36:01
check my emails instead or do this other
  • 00:36:02
    thing instead because I'm not
  • 00:36:04
accountable to anyone but myself but if
  • 00:36:07
I was to block that time off and put Doc
  • 00:36:09
or Cassie on the calendar invite then
  • 00:36:11
    like I am I like I 95% of the time I'm
  • 00:36:15
going to show up for them right like
  • 00:36:16
    unless something super urgent has
  • 00:36:17
happened I'm going to be there to show
  • 00:36:19
up for the person because I'm a people
  • 00:36:21
pleaser right I need to be there I need
  • 00:36:22
like I want to be held accountable soil
  • 00:36:25
yeah guilt Canadian guilt um so I I have
  • 00:36:28
been thinking more about in those like
  • 00:36:30
power block times as as doc was phrasing
  • 00:36:33
    it actually adding an accountability
  • 00:36:35
partner to that invite like so for me
  • 00:36:37
I'm like I work from home a lot my
  • 00:36:39
husband also works from home a lot so
  • 00:36:40
I'm like even if I just put him on that
  • 00:36:42
calendar invite so when he walks by he
  • 00:36:45
could say like hey what like grabbing a
  • 00:36:47
    coffee was your power
  • 00:36:50
blocked yeah so someone someone have
  • 00:36:53
boss me around because I actually think
  • 00:36:54
that that would make a really big
  • 00:36:55
difference in like in what I'm doing cuz
  • 00:36:58
I am very easily distracted so that's
  • 00:37:00
that was my big take away from that so
  • 00:37:02
I'm going to actually mix that with
  • 00:37:03
    Doc's Doc's time blocking idea and I
  • 00:37:06
think that will work really well CU
  • 00:37:07
    everybody always talked about time
  • 00:37:09
blocking but no one ever really
  • 00:37:10
explained it because it's it is so
  • 00:37:12
self-explanatory that it's easy to do it
  • 00:37:14
wrong and no I was just saying you're
  • 00:37:17
guilt I'm saying I'm guilty of that too
  • 00:37:19
like no but I have guilt no I have and
  • 00:37:22
I'm pretty sure I'm pretty sure um
  • 00:37:24
Disney Universal over there has the same
  • 00:37:26
problem because we we all try to make
  • 00:37:28
folks happy like that was the that was
  • 00:37:30
the the cross we got bared or whatever
  • 00:37:32
that Satan statement is yes yes I will
  • 00:37:36
I'm very guilty of that like if to your
  • 00:37:39
point Katie if it's a solo thing and
  • 00:37:41
someone asked me hey can you meet
  • 00:37:42
tomorrow at two and I'm like oh but my
  • 00:37:44
like personal thing is blocked here I'm
  • 00:37:46
like sure problem yeah exactly because
  • 00:37:50
there's food or coffee involve them out
  • 00:37:52
I'm going to help yes exactly a fun
  • 00:37:55
treat whatever for me to this is like
  • 00:37:58
more of a mental thing that I'll I'll do
  • 00:38:00
as well like when I'm looking at my
  • 00:38:01
    calendar and I'm considering moving
  • 00:38:03
something I'll kind of take a minute and
  • 00:38:05
I'll think about what is the what is the
  • 00:38:10
the pain or the negative side effect of
  • 00:38:13
me moving this for example I know that
  • 00:38:15
sounds kind of dramatic but like for
  • 00:38:17
example if if tomorrow I have a solo
  • 00:38:20
episode recording it's just me like I
  • 00:38:22
have to pop on and and record something
  • 00:38:24
myself if I'm like oh I could do that
  • 00:38:26
you know next Friday or whatever
  • 00:38:28
if I don't get an episode out this week
  • 00:38:29
my community is not receiving the
  • 00:38:32
content that they were promised when I
  • 00:38:34
originally started the show so just kind
  • 00:38:37
of taking a minute and asking yourself
  • 00:38:39
like if I do decide to put this task off
  • 00:38:42
like what is going to happen as a
  • 00:38:44
circumstance of that and that's kind of
  • 00:38:46
an easy quick like selft talk for me to
  • 00:38:49
be like okay never mind like I'm not
  • 00:38:51
going to move this because XYZ is gonna
  • 00:38:53
happen and it's going to be bad and you
  • 00:38:55
know all that so yeah that's a good
  • 00:38:57
that's a good tip too that um what if
  • 00:39:00
you pay yourself stop moving so fast
  • 00:39:02
okay so you make a separate account and
  • 00:39:04
you pay yourself your hourly rate for
  • 00:39:06
the time you take yourself out of
  • 00:39:07
working on your business oh so like it
  • 00:39:11
it actually becomes painful to you and
  • 00:39:13
then that money goes to charity or your
  • 00:39:16
kids or you know somebody else so that's
  • 00:39:19
a hey I tell you what I bet you start
  • 00:39:21
messing with folks wallet they'll stop
  • 00:39:23
    cheating themselves
  • 00:39:25
yeah like cost me $150 to hang out with
  • 00:39:29
Chris never mind Chris sorry Chris I'm
  • 00:39:31
just use all these this is great yeah
  • 00:39:35
    setting those like yeah ramifications
  • 00:39:37
whether it's thoughts or money I think
  • 00:39:40
yeah it definitely goes one of those
  • 00:39:41
things it's it's on us and it's so easy
  • 00:39:44
to pass that time up and want to you
  • 00:39:46
know like I just want to help these
  • 00:39:47
folks out but it can get in your way and
  • 00:39:49
it happens all the time you know so it's
  • 00:39:52
def definitely it the new camera fund
  • 00:39:55
exactly yeah the new camera fund now on
  • 00:39:57
purpose that would be like I'm not doing
  • 00:39:59
    it here's
  • 00:40:02
150 oh my gosh oh that's so all right so
  • 00:40:08
2025 I'm gonna ask both of you guys and
  • 00:40:10
then I'll give you mine I want to know
  • 00:40:13
what is going to be the
  • 00:40:15
    biggest like winfall for marketing
  • 00:40:20
    specifically marketing podcast in 2025
  • 00:40:23
cuz I got a heater oh my goodness oh you
  • 00:40:26
got a heater competitive I was Kati do
  • 00:40:30
you have one I need to think about this
  • 00:40:32
for a second I can give you m first and
  • 00:40:34
then I'll give you something think
  • 00:40:36
about slam the door okay listen so Cass
  • 00:40:40
mentioned early in the episode that
  • 00:40:41
Community is big and she's 100% correct
  • 00:40:44
you guys are here you know what it is
  • 00:40:46
YouTube is adding Community to their
  • 00:40:50
channels so you're going to be able to
  • 00:40:52
do a lot of the things that are sort of
  • 00:40:53
Facebook page or disb thisbook Discord
  • 00:40:56
oriented Direct ly in YouTube so you
  • 00:40:59
don't have to send people off the
  • 00:41:00
platform so if you haven't listened to
  • 00:41:03
the last uh 94 episodes of the flow you
  • 00:41:07
need your podcast to be video and you
  • 00:41:09
need it to be on YouTube and you need to
  • 00:41:11
do it this weekend because when it rolls
  • 00:41:14
out you're going to be behind the
  • 00:41:16
eightball the number one reason why you
  • 00:41:18
want your podcast on YouTube is like
  • 00:41:21
Cassie was saying doing an art a Google
  • 00:41:23
article or sorry a Blog article for
  • 00:41:25
every version of your podcast that's
  • 00:41:26
automat with YouTube to the SEO Bots or
  • 00:41:30
the Geo Bots which I'm not going to
  • 00:41:32
start that conversation in this show the
  • 00:41:33
Geo Bots are even more important than
  • 00:41:35
the SEO Bots at this point and y'all
  • 00:41:37
don't even know what the hell Geo is so
  • 00:41:39
I'm gonna leave you hanging on that
  • 00:41:40
until next year but my crew knows cuz I
  • 00:41:43
told them already you need to be ready
  • 00:41:45
for this so if you've been thinking
  • 00:41:47
about it stop thinking stop drinking
  • 00:41:49
make that podcast get it out there and
  • 00:41:51
    make it a YouTube video
  • 00:41:54
    podcast oh man
  • 00:41:58
    that's good yeah that was
  • 00:42:01
    mine same team Katie same
  • 00:42:03
    team well I know I know I me I mean I
  • 00:42:07
    like I guess I don't know i' I've been
  • 00:42:09
thinking about a lot of these things
  • 00:42:10
kind of maybe more person like
  • 00:42:12
personally and how it applies to ecam I
  • 00:42:14
think you're right I think like YouTube
  • 00:42:16
and and video are going to continue to
  • 00:42:20
be big players particularly in the in
  • 00:42:23
    the content marketing space whatever
  • 00:42:25
that means for you and for your business
  • 00:42:28
I I'm just on this like I keep calling
  • 00:42:30
it a mission I'm I'm going to keep
  • 00:42:31
calling it a mission I'm on a mission to
  • 00:42:33
try to get in front of people and let
  • 00:42:35
them know how to make the V video
  • 00:42:40
creation process much easier and more
  • 00:42:43
seamless so that they can uh then
  • 00:42:46
streamline all of the other processes
  • 00:42:48
that go in and around that because I
  • 00:42:50
think what ends up happening is creating
  • 00:42:52
the video feels big and daunting and
  • 00:42:56
like too much and they're overthinking
  • 00:42:58
that experience and then all the other
  • 00:43:00
    work whether that's editing
  • 00:43:02
    repurposing all the marketing other
  • 00:43:05
stuff to it then feels like even more
  • 00:43:08
big and so then the whole thing you end
  • 00:43:09
up getting it caught in this spiral of
  • 00:43:11
just not not doing any of it or not or
  • 00:43:14
being on autopilot and doing the wrong
  • 00:43:16
things because you just want to check
  • 00:43:17
the boxes and being done so I think like
  • 00:43:20
I think I don't know in my mind I feel
  • 00:43:21
like 2025 is going to be the year of
  • 00:43:24
people finally figuring out what their
  • 00:43:28
workflow what their system is and and
  • 00:43:31
finding ways to to get really clever
  • 00:43:34
about this those are the people that are
  • 00:43:35
going to win going forward so I
  • 00:43:38
    long-winded probably not perfect answer
  • 00:43:40
but I'm going to go with it I think it's
  • 00:43:41
figuring out how to figuring out how
  • 00:43:43
what your systems and your workflow is
  • 00:43:46
and how to think video first to kind of
  • 00:43:49
simplify that entire process is going to
  • 00:43:50
be really important particularly I like
  • 00:43:53
it save yourself stress time energy
  • 00:43:56
    money
  • 00:43:57
system save time energy money that's
  • 00:44:00
another dock Rock professional use you
  • 00:44:02
could have it yes yeah and the video is
  • 00:44:05
huge too because it serves as a macro
  • 00:44:07
form of content to create small social
  • 00:44:10
Snippets so instead of thinking about I
  • 00:44:12
individually have to create a podcast
  • 00:44:15
episode and I also individually have to
  • 00:44:16
create social media content start with
  • 00:44:19
the podcast first record via video and
  • 00:44:21
then create social content from there
  • 00:44:23
and it's it the process is just very
  • 00:44:25
    streamlined um
  • 00:44:27
I will third the video importance I
  • 00:44:30
think that is huge I think more and more
  • 00:44:32
people want to see other people face to
  • 00:44:34
face and that's a great way to connect
  • 00:44:35
with your audience um but kind of
  • 00:44:38
piggybacking off of that too I'll
  • 00:44:40
encourage you this is something I've
  • 00:44:42
kind of dealt with over the years is
  • 00:44:43
don't be afraid to let your personality
  • 00:44:45
just shine I know we we say that all the
  • 00:44:48
time but I feel like a lot of times when
  • 00:44:50
we start to record something we feel
  • 00:44:53
almost crippled by the video camera
  • 00:44:55
being turned on and we're like oh have
  • 00:44:57
to be this buttoned up like perfect
  • 00:44:59
non-real version of myself and number
  • 00:45:03
one that's not sustainable like you it's
  • 00:45:05
it doesn't work and also more and more
  • 00:45:07
as you start to connect with your
  • 00:45:09
audience in person you want that
  • 00:45:10
personality to flow over your human
  • 00:45:14
connections and also I think about some
  • 00:45:16
of the biggest podcasts in the world SL
  • 00:45:18
    the podcast I personally gravitate
  • 00:45:20
towards they're fun I feel like I know
  • 00:45:22
the person as a friend and so entering
  • 00:45:25
those uh episodes as I'm just going to
  • 00:45:27
be me I'm GNA share my viewpoint and
  • 00:45:30
opinion and yes I'll have kind of a goal
  • 00:45:32
for this episode and what I want someone
  • 00:45:33
to learn from it but don't be afraid to
  • 00:45:35
put your own spin on it and I think
  • 00:45:37
that's really what's going to stand out
  • 00:45:39
in 2025 is there are a lot of podcasts
  • 00:45:42
out there but what's going to make you
  • 00:45:43
different yes is the value and yes the
  • 00:45:45
solution you provide but the way you
  • 00:45:47
talk about a topic and the fun unique
  • 00:45:49
personality that you put on it nice nice
  • 00:45:53
love it love it okay so we been talking
  • 00:45:57
about this a lot something that I've
  • 00:45:58
done for the last two years I learned it
  • 00:46:01
from I believe it oh man which one of
  • 00:46:04
our creator one of our creators started
  • 00:46:06
it and then oh it was Sally Sally
  • 00:46:08
cousins with her laughing s um Sally put
  • 00:46:11
me on the theme word for the year and so
  • 00:46:13
like two years ago her her theme word
  • 00:46:15
was ecam and so she got heavy in ecam
  • 00:46:17
and now she's killing it so Katie's been
  • 00:46:20
recently into the theme word so what is
  • 00:46:22
going to be your theme word for 2025
  • 00:46:25
Katie uh mine can so I've been rocking
  • 00:46:28
it through 2024 I'm going to carry it
  • 00:46:29
into 2025 mine is simplify yep love it
  • 00:46:32
love it and so my theme word last year
  • 00:46:34
was Grace uh my theme word this year is
  • 00:46:37
    going to be
  • 00:46:40
no I am really bad at no I'm like yeah
  • 00:46:43
okay I got it yeah okay I got it good
  • 00:46:45
now good be like hey can you do this no
  • 00:46:48
okay You' be surprised a lot of times
  • 00:46:51
the people would say love that Sally's
  • 00:46:53
was ecam though yeah it was I got good
  • 00:46:57
yeah sometimes we like we take this like
  • 00:46:59
word word challenge and we try to figure
  • 00:47:02
out like a big thing and I love that she
  • 00:47:04
was like n I'm a learn the software
  • 00:47:06
that's why it is the Cornerstone of her
  • 00:47:08
business she produces three podcasts a
  • 00:47:10
week they're video podcasts two of them
  • 00:47:12
are live streams and she was like I've
  • 00:47:14
been fumbling for too long so she hit me
  • 00:47:16
up like the first week in January I like
  • 00:47:18
can I have an hour of your time and I'm
  • 00:47:19
like yeah and she like can you come on
  • 00:47:21
my show and I was like yeah now she be
  • 00:47:23
can come on show and be like no I'm just
  • 00:47:24
joking she was cool because after I help
  • 00:47:27
and I did her episode she sent me a ball
  • 00:47:28
of Glen le2 people you want to know how
  • 00:47:30
to get me on your show send me whiskey
  • 00:47:32
so simple anyway but now she crushes
  • 00:47:35
ecam she no longer ask questions like
  • 00:47:37
she just does her thing she actually
  • 00:47:39
spent the time over the course of the
  • 00:47:41
year to learn a little bit every you
  • 00:47:43
know so often and it works so Cass if
  • 00:47:45
you have if you do a theme word if you
  • 00:47:47
do that what would it be for 25 yeah oh
  • 00:47:50
man I a lot come to mind but I think one
  • 00:47:53
that I would choose is delegate so the
  • 00:47:55
reason I'm choosing that is delegate to
  • 00:47:58
other people delegate to systems so
  • 00:48:01
Katie you were talking about all these
  • 00:48:02
amazing platforms that we have available
  • 00:48:04
to us so really looking at process what
  • 00:48:07
do I do on a regular basis um if you
  • 00:48:10
feel like you have to like track your
  • 00:48:11
time for a week and just see where
  • 00:48:13
you're spending your time how can you
  • 00:48:14
reduce that time by uh optimizing using
  • 00:48:17
a great system that helps uh streamline
  • 00:48:20
efficiency or do you need to bring in
  • 00:48:22
someone to help with that stuff because
  • 00:48:24
I I love doing all the things but don't
  • 00:48:27
need to be doing all the things so for
  • 00:48:29
me I need to uh next year kind of figure
  • 00:48:32
out where can I kind of reduce my time
  • 00:48:35
spent on tasks that can be uh placed
  • 00:48:38
into other people's hands or other
  • 00:48:40
systems or software's hands so I can do
  • 00:48:43
my best in the things that I do best so
  • 00:48:46
see you heard it first Katie's GNA be
  • 00:48:48
gone Paul you got more work to
  • 00:48:52
do Cassie set you up so you know who to
  • 00:48:55

  • 00:48:57

  • 00:49:03

  • 00:49:10

  • 00:49:12
