00:00:14
hey guys welcome back to my Channel
00:00:15
today we are going to be diving
00:00:19
into you guys know it's like the most
00:00:22
powerfullest money tool that there is
00:00:24
out there and everybody is pretty much
00:00:27
hopping on the bandwagon of of this way
00:00:31
to help control your finances which is
00:00:34
pretty much the cash envelope system so
00:00:36
I am going to be actually explaining how
00:00:38
to get started with the cash envelope
00:00:40
system a lot of you guys have been
00:00:41
actually messaging me you said you do
00:00:43
like the videos where I kind of explain
00:00:45
a little bit about like budgeting and
00:00:48
things like that so I just felt like I
00:00:50
would pretty much do a video like that
00:00:53
and um so hopefully this will answer all
00:00:55
of you guys questions that have been
00:00:57
messaging me so if you are pretty much
00:00:59
tired of overspending constantly saying
00:01:02
I don't have enough money until my next
00:01:04
paycheck or I'm living paycheck to
00:01:05
paycheck or you just want to pretty much
00:01:07
say hey I am in control of my finances
00:01:10
then this is the system that is exactly
00:01:13
what you probably need so let's get
00:01:16
started before we hop into that you guys
00:01:18
know if you have not already clicked on
00:01:20
the Subscribe button please make sure to
00:01:22
click on the Subscribe button and the
00:01:23
notification Bell really love to have
00:01:25
you here and really love to have your
00:01:27
input on how you feel about budgeting
00:01:28
and the things and the steps you took to
00:01:31
get out of debt or to take control of
00:01:33
your finances
00:01:35
yourself so we're going to actually have
00:01:37
like some little props so we can kind of
00:01:39
you know go walk through do some little
00:01:40
bit of examples so that um we can make
00:01:43
it a little bit fun and not just uh a
00:01:46
drag so um yeah we're going to actually
00:01:48
pretty much do that so the first thing
00:01:50
we need to figure out is what is the
00:01:52
cash envelope system so to make it
00:01:55
simple is just a method of budgeting
00:01:57
where you take cash that you're
00:02:00
allocating into different envelopes and
00:02:02
you have like specific categories for
00:02:05
when you're spending like groceries
00:02:08
Transportation entertainment um like gym
00:02:12
just and so on so any categories that
00:02:14
you can think that you have trouble with
00:02:17
spending your money and you overspend oh
00:02:21
mine this I I overspend in cups um I
00:02:25
love cups so that's why I have a cash
00:02:28
envelope for cups because your girl want
00:02:31
a Stanley Cup because I love lots of ice
00:02:34
cubes lots of ice cubes okay all right
00:02:39
so basically these envelopes represents
00:02:42
different areas and different things
00:02:44
that you have in your budget so by using
00:02:46
your cash which usually when I use my
00:02:48
cash I don't want to part with it I do a
00:02:51
lot better using cash and I do my check
00:02:53
card because I can't actually see that
00:02:55
cash leaving my hand so if you're saying
00:02:59
I I don't want to deal with the cash or
00:03:00
whatever just try it for a couple days
00:03:03
or whatever whatnot maybe a week and I'm
00:03:06
telling you it is so harder to give
00:03:09
somebody cash your hard-earned cash
00:03:12
instead of just giving your card and say
00:03:14
swipe swipe let's hear the let's hear
00:03:16
the credit card swipe let's hear it
00:03:19
y'all hear it okay yeah it is so much
00:03:23
easier to not want to part with your
00:03:26
money and when you have your envelopes
00:03:29
it's more easier to say hey I only have
00:03:31
$10 left in eating out so I need to go
00:03:33
home and I need to make me a peanut
00:03:34
butter and jelly sandwich and that's
00:03:36
what I'm taking for lunch tomorrow or I
00:03:38
don't have this much money left for gas
00:03:41
so um instead of me sitting there hot
00:03:43
riding it and just riding around
00:03:45
cruising I need to stay my butt at home
00:03:47
and save some gas okay so we're going to
00:03:49
talk about setting up your cash
00:03:51
envelopes so before you actually set up
00:03:54
your cash envelopes you want to make
00:03:56
sure I know the cash envelopes are fun
00:03:58
the savings challenges are fun but you
00:03:59
want to make sure that you have your
00:04:01
budget put together first and I know
00:04:05
when I first started cash envelopes I
00:04:07
was actually pretty much just saying
00:04:09
like just just trying to do the cash
00:04:10
envelops because I thought it was fun
00:04:11
and I was I was like oh let me just do
00:04:13
this but I was founding out that I was
00:04:15
pretty much short on cash and short on
00:04:19
payments that I needed to make for my
00:04:21
monthly payments things that I needed to
00:04:22
pay so basically what you want to do is
00:04:26
you want to find you a budgeting system
00:04:28
that works for you and you like I always
00:04:31
tell you guys you can use any type of
00:04:32
budgeting system that you that you want
00:04:34
to use notebook paper um if you have a
00:04:37
favorite budgeter that you use their
00:04:39
budget system that works for you go
00:04:40
ahead do it so here what we're going to
00:04:43
do is just like here I'm just going to
00:04:46
do like some random income we're going
00:04:48
to do this really quick and then we're
00:04:49
going to get hop back to the um
00:04:50
envelopes but you have to know what you
00:04:53
have left in order to be able to do your
00:04:56
cash envelopes and a lot of people say
00:04:58
you want to pay yourself first for your
00:04:59
savings so that's totally up to you and
00:05:01
how much you want to put towards debt
00:05:03
because the name of the game is that you
00:05:05
do want to hurry up and get your debt
00:05:07
taken care of now I did put the savings
00:05:10
challenges and syncing funds because
00:05:11
these are just the little bit of icing
00:05:13
that's on the top of the cake you don't
00:05:15
have to actually do sying funds you
00:05:16
don't have to do savings challenges to
00:05:18
keep the lights on in your house that
00:05:20
was my little clip
00:05:21
y'all but the bills monthly bills like
00:05:24
your electric bill your W to Bill your
00:05:26
car insurance those are things that you
00:05:28
need to get paid all right so we're
00:05:32
going to say just um payday is on we're
00:05:34
going to say hey we get paid on the 20th
00:05:37
this is
00:05:38
uh weekly paycheck so we're going to say
00:05:41
that our monthly income is $11,000 so I
00:05:44
budgeted for $
00:05:45
900 but actually had we're just going to
00:05:48
keep it at a th000 we're just going to
00:05:50
keep it at easy math easy as possible so
00:05:54
let's just say we have an electric
00:05:56
bill we have our car payment
00:06:00
and thank not I don't have a car payment
00:06:02
I paid that off thank you thank you
00:06:03
thank you and let's just say we have a w
00:06:07
bill cuz you got to have your Lo to Bill
00:06:10
all right so we're going to do Fifth
00:06:11
Fifth these are due on the fifth making
00:06:14
it simple so I budgeted for the electric
00:06:16
bill to be we're going to say 200 cuz
00:06:18
that electric bill is expensive and
00:06:19
we're going to try to keep it realistic
00:06:21
as we
00:06:22
can car payment let's say
00:06:25
350 VOA Bill let's say $70 we're going
00:06:30
to do 70 okay all right so actual we
00:06:34
actually paid this amount so we're going
00:06:36
to do$ 350 and we got $70 all right so
00:06:39
no overage or no shortage and we paid on
00:06:43
the 5ifth and we're just going to pay
00:06:44
all of these on the 5ifth all right so
00:06:47
I'm going to bring down my amounts
00:06:49
because actually I made $1,000 this is
00:06:52
exactly what I got this is what I
00:06:53
thought I was going to get because that
00:06:55
was
00:06:56
budgeted so let's go ahead and add up I
00:06:58
probably add this myself but we going to
00:07:01
be safe and use this calculator cuz
00:07:03
that's what this calculator is for all
00:07:05
right so we have
00:07:08
620 all
00:07:10
right wo this is getting caught on my
00:07:12
shirt okay so we have 620 so what I do
00:07:15
is like a check Ledger I'm taking 1,00
00:07:17
200 from 1,000 which is 800 oo I'm
00:07:21
getting into um some um strenuous math
00:07:24
so 350 so that leaves us with 450 okay
00:07:28
all right so then we have $70 okay so
00:07:31
we're going to take minus
00:07:34
$70 okay so that's leaving us with
00:07:37
$380 all right so we're doing a low
00:07:39
income budget so just say this is all
00:07:41
that we have to work with because not
00:07:42
everybody has $5,000 left over not
00:07:46
everybody has 2,000 or you might not
00:07:48
even have 1,000 so whatever you have
00:07:51
left over this is what you're going to
00:07:53
use for
00:07:56
your rest of your budget so we're
00:07:59
getting into it to figure out what we
00:08:00
need for um our cash envelopes because
00:08:04
by using your cash you're forced to
00:08:06
stick to your budget and because once
00:08:08
the money runs out you know you it it's
00:08:10
gone and you can't be spending from
00:08:12
other category cuz I remember when I
00:08:13
first started I was pulling from other
00:08:15
categories pulling from my buffer my
00:08:16
checking but I realized that that did
00:08:18
not work so savings we're just going to
00:08:21
do I only have $25 that I budgeted for
00:08:25
put my bracelets in here and we only did
00:08:27
$25 so what I'm trying to do is show you
00:08:30
guys how I'm getting to the cash
00:08:31
envelopes cuz like I said cash envelopes
00:08:33
are fun to do but you have to make sure
00:08:36
your budget your paycheck is pretty much
00:08:38
this is like your base your meat you
00:08:40
have to make sure this is all taken care
00:08:42
of before you do cash envel because
00:08:43
otherwise you're going to be dipping in
00:08:45
this going back here to put this here
00:08:47
and these cash envelopes and going to
00:08:48
your savings and stuff and that's not
00:08:49
going to work let's say um I have a
00:08:53
Grand's
00:08:54
card I'm going to take $10 out of that
00:08:58
an actual so $10 so we got 25 so what we
00:09:02
have left so we're going to take this
00:09:05
380
00:09:07
minus
00:09:08
25 all right 10 all right so we have
00:09:13
$345 left that we can actually play with
00:09:16
we're just going to do for just for play
00:09:18
here so so basically what you do is you
00:09:20
figure out am I going to do syncing
00:09:22
funds or am I going to do some savings
00:09:23
challenges or whatever whatnot am I
00:09:25
going to take this whole amount am I
00:09:26
going to just use that for cash
00:09:28
envelopes sing funs savings challenge so
00:09:30
it's pretty much like the extra is on
00:09:32
this page and the you need to do this is
00:09:35
on this
00:09:36
page so what I have is for my
00:09:43
envelopes I'm going to move this
00:09:47
over all right so what I've done for
00:09:50
mines is I have identified my spending
00:09:53
categories so this is what you need to
00:09:54
do what is something that you are always
00:09:57
spending your money on when you look at
00:09:59
your receipts that's left over in your
00:10:01
purse crumpled up and you like gr day
00:10:03
like a week later you like oh my
00:10:04
goodness you mean to tell me I spent $13
00:10:06
on a salad or I spent $50 on a purse and
00:10:09
then I stopped at 7-Eleven and I got
00:10:12
some um some little um Twinkie cakes and
00:10:15
all that came up to the twinkie cakes
00:10:17
were like $6 what in the world what you
00:10:20
need to do is identify your spending
00:10:22
categor so these are all my spending
00:10:24
categories and I know these aren't like
00:10:27
the normal with
00:10:29
you can use different types of binders
00:10:31
these aren't the normal um envelopes
00:10:33
that I use I like these because these
00:10:35
are more discreet when I'm in the store
00:10:38
and if there's like too many people in
00:10:40
the store and I don't feel comfortable
00:10:41
taking all my envelopes I will bust one
00:10:42
of these numbers like this and I would
00:10:44
just go through my wallet do like this
00:10:46
lift it up just a little bit cuz it's
00:10:48
just like how a man does his wallet how
00:10:50
he takes his little cash lifts it up a
00:10:52
little bit and pull it out so that's
00:10:55
what I pretty much use I like using this
00:10:57
wallet for
00:10:59
um but these are cute too I do like
00:11:01
using the um you know the binder depends
00:11:04
on where I'm going and how I'm filling
00:11:06
all right so this is another one and
00:11:08
then another wallet that you can
00:11:10
actually use I know we have the disbound
00:11:13
wallets that people use to I really love
00:11:16
this to these wallets let me turn it
00:11:18
this way so you can see it so you have
00:11:21
these categories also and um envelope
00:11:25
wallets that you can you can use
00:11:26
whatever you want to use for your cash
00:11:28
envelope wallets okay so first we're
00:11:30
going to identify spending categories so
00:11:32
you take a look at your past expenses
00:11:34
like I said I find receipts that were in
00:11:36
my purse that were crumpled up or
00:11:38
receipts that I had that I look back and
00:11:40
I say I paid that much for a salad or I
00:11:44
I spent like $50 at the Dollar Tree last
00:11:46
week what in the world I don't even know
00:11:48
what I got I don't even know what I got
00:11:50
so once you determine where your money
00:11:53
is going and you can just line up your
00:11:55
receipts so let's just say if we had if
00:11:59
I saw a Dollar Tree envelope and I spent
00:12:03
$10 I see a CVS one and I spent $10 if I
00:12:08
see a Food Lion receipt and I spent
00:12:12
$125 if I see a crisp receipt and I
00:12:16
spent um
00:12:18
$15 if I seen a McDonald's
00:12:22
receipt I spent $122 you know and so
00:12:26
that way I can go and say hey I'm
00:12:28
spending way too much in food so I need
00:12:31
to figure out I need to set a budget for
00:12:33
my food and so that way I'm only
00:12:35
spending $25 a week or I'm only spending
00:12:39
$20 a week and I need to maximize on my
00:12:41
food line my groceries so I can
00:12:44
incorporate making something to take
00:12:46
with me to work or to have you know make
00:12:48
my own
00:12:49
lunch all right so some common
00:12:51
categories that a lot of people have
00:12:53
that I have in Minds is groceries that's
00:12:56
a common one gas is a common one and
00:12:59
this one right here this is just by
00:13:00
manifest I know people always ask me
00:13:02
what is that million dollars in your
00:13:04
thing this is my manifest Bill yes ma'am
00:13:07
1 million this my manifest
00:13:09
Bill all right so another common thing
00:13:12
people have I don't think people have
00:13:13
Dollar Tree in there but I have seen
00:13:15
where some people say hey I added a
00:13:17
Dollar Tree envelope in my in my
00:13:20
envelopes all right so eat out is
00:13:22
another comment and I always like to do
00:13:23
extra cash just in case if I sell things
00:13:25
like on the marketplace or stuff like
00:13:28
that all right um and then usually
00:13:30
people have Duncan but I just have Joe
00:13:32
beans because that's what we have here
00:13:34
and usually people have let's see what
00:13:37
else I think I said household items cuz
00:13:40
that's a lot we have there so once you
00:13:42
do that you want to write all your
00:13:45
categories down on there because you're
00:13:46
not going to have them on your envelopes
00:13:48
first you write all of them down and
00:13:50
once like I would have like I would
00:13:52
write down Cris gas groceries all those
00:13:55
and say Hey Okay so these are all of the
00:13:57
categories that I need to you know check
00:14:00
keep check of my spending and you know
00:14:03
make sure that I'm not overspending so
00:14:05
once you do that you can label your
00:14:07
envelopes and you can do different types
00:14:09
of labels like I have these labels for
00:14:11
my envelopes here and then like these
00:14:15
right here these are envelopes that I
00:14:16
make and these are how I have these
00:14:18
pretty much labeled there and these are
00:14:22
so you can pretty much label them
00:14:23
however you and there's a lot of
00:14:24
different shops Etsy shops that do
00:14:26
different um labels for for you know for
00:14:30
cash envelopes and then I have these
00:14:32
where I
00:14:33
labeled just my envelopes like this so
00:14:37
that is how that is right there once
00:14:39
you've label your envelopes and you have
00:14:41
all of your categories this is the part
00:14:44
that will help you stay organized and if
00:14:48
you ever need to redo your envelopes or
00:14:51
anything like that just make you a new
00:14:52
envelope or you can peel off the label
00:14:54
and put another label on there super
00:14:56
easy nothing stressful so so now what we
00:15:00
do so once you come
00:15:02
here the categories that you have and
00:15:05
this is I'm going to show you in my
00:15:08
budget planner what I do cuz it's almost
00:15:10
time for my um next cash stuffing so I
00:15:13
can show you guys that so let's just
00:15:15
take this for example as you can see all
00:15:17
of my cash envelopes that I have here I
00:15:20
have Chris Joe beans Dollar Tree
00:15:22
personal eatout gas household groceries
00:15:24
and Aiden so I do put what I have left
00:15:26
over because that way I can see what
00:15:28
I've had for the last week and these cuz
00:15:31
I know I used to always spend a lot at
00:15:33
Chris cuz I stayed at Chris so a salad
00:15:36
is $15 so you can just brainstorm on
00:15:38
notes so that's why I ended up putting
00:15:41
$15 in there Joe beans I have a gift
00:15:44
card so I didn't need to put any money
00:15:46
in there so once you do it every week is
00:15:48
not probably going to be the same so
00:15:50
you're going to have to sit down put
00:15:52
some time aside and say like hey for
00:15:54
Dollar Tree do I really need to go to
00:15:56
the Dollar Tree I'm only going to spend
00:15:57
$10 or personal do I need to get any
00:16:00
personal items this week or do I have
00:16:02
enough to last me until my next paycheck
00:16:04
so I just gave myself $30 eat out I kind
00:16:08
of mesh this with groceries so it
00:16:10
depends on how much groceries I have is
00:16:12
how much I do for eat out because
00:16:14
sometimes if I don't get enough
00:16:16
groceries well not enough but I will
00:16:19
always leave like a cushion for eat out
00:16:20
just in case of those nights that I have
00:16:23
I come late and I don't have time to eat
00:16:25
we can just stop gas same thing you
00:16:27
check your in from last time did you use
00:16:29
all your gas was the gas money that you
00:16:32
put in before was that enough do you
00:16:33
need to add more to it so it's kind of
00:16:36
like you go you kind of like figuring
00:16:38
out brainstorming and you're tweaking it
00:16:40
every single time or sometimes if you
00:16:42
didn't work as many hours as you did
00:16:44
last week you're going to have to adjust
00:16:46
that so don't feel like every week you
00:16:49
have to put the same envelopes so it's
00:16:50
always like a
00:16:51
changing so that's how I actually um oh
00:16:54
yeah there's my Joe beans gift card so
00:16:56
that's how I figure out my um envelope
00:16:58
VES there all right so now the next
00:17:01
thing is you want to allocate your cash
00:17:04
to your envelopes so like I said the
00:17:07
amount that you have each week a lot of
00:17:09
people what they do is they have like a
00:17:12
cash tray you don't have to get a cash
00:17:14
tray you can pretty much take your cash
00:17:16
and just pretty much um I'm going to
00:17:20
take some with this cash I have to cash
00:17:22
stuff anyway so you just pretty much
00:17:24
take your cash and this is all and you
00:17:28
just pretty much line it up you don't
00:17:30
need a c but I have a cash tray when you
00:17:32
first start and you don't have money to
00:17:34
buy a cash tray line that junk right up
00:17:36
on that desk like that and that looks
00:17:38
just as beautiful as it does a cash tray
00:17:40
so you're pretty much going to line it
00:17:42
up and you're going to say hey I'm going
00:17:44
to
00:17:45
allocate one to $1 to Joe beans so
00:17:48
you're going to put that in the envelope
00:17:49
I'm not going to put this in there
00:17:50
because this right here I have to finish
00:17:52
figuring out for my cash stuffing all
00:17:54
right so for Chris you're going to say
00:17:56
hey Chris I'm going to do $20 so you
00:17:58
take 20 bucks put it in here all right
00:18:01
so next you
00:18:03
take if you say hey gas last time I put
00:18:07
60 but all I need is $40 cuz I already
00:18:10
have
00:18:11
50 so you can pretty much cut back on
00:18:14
things that you don't need a lot in and
00:18:18
just because you have the extra you
00:18:19
don't means you have to put it in there
00:18:21
you know what I'm saying cuz I know
00:18:23
sometimes the thing is if you have extra
00:18:24
you going to want to spin it just
00:18:25
because it's in there but you can say
00:18:27
hey I did say last week I have 50 left
00:18:30
let me just put 40 so you can just put
00:18:31
40 into your envelope there now now that
00:18:35
your envelopes are pretty much set up
00:18:37
it's pretty much time to start using
00:18:39
your
00:18:40
envelopes all right let me put this
00:18:42
money back in here if I get it all mixed
00:18:44
up okay so when you need to make a
00:18:48
purchase now some people do this with
00:18:50
their credit card they just leave this
00:18:51
in there and they just keep track of
00:18:53
what they spend so at the end of the
00:18:56
month when they need to pay their credit
00:18:57
card back they just just pull them cash
00:18:59
out of the envelope put it in a um got
00:19:04
this all turned up put it in a envelope
00:19:06
and take it back to the bank so that's
00:19:08
where you see I have where you at I have
00:19:12
Bank Run so Bank Run would be money that
00:19:14
I would actually you know take back to
00:19:16
the bank so once you go to the store I
00:19:19
mean this is I know people are saying
00:19:20
like hey girl that is simple but some
00:19:22
some we have to you know I want to make
00:19:24
sure that I'm explaining it easily so
00:19:26
when I go to crisp if I have have $15 in
00:19:29
here that the total is $13 so what I do
00:19:31
is pull out my 10 and my five give it to
00:19:33
them the change that I have left I put
00:19:36
my money in here and I have a coin pouch
00:19:39
that I actually put my coins in because
00:19:41
y'all know that I do have little coin
00:19:43
containers cuz I do wrap those up and
00:19:46
this is a good way to actually also save
00:19:48
again because the coins that you save
00:19:51
you can actually use that to pay debt
00:19:52
put in your savings or you can use it to
00:19:54
cash it in to just reuse it for the the
00:19:58
next week so you can just kind of reuse
00:20:00
it so one thing you have to remember is
00:20:03
that once that money is gone that money
00:20:06
is gone cuz I know that was hard for me
00:20:08
I just kept picking out of other um
00:20:09
envelopes until I figured out that Tina
00:20:12
that ain't the way to go and that is not
00:20:14
how so as you can see some of my
00:20:15
envelopes are empty and um I'm just have
00:20:18
to wait until the next cash stuffing and
00:20:21
then that way you will you know what I'm
00:20:23
saying you will pretty much get yourself
00:20:25
into a routine of saying hey I don't
00:20:27
have money and then it gets to the point
00:20:29
where it doesn't even bother you anymore
00:20:31
that that envelope is empty so my
00:20:33
question to you guys is so would you
00:20:35
consider using the cash envelope system
00:20:38
do you think it's easy do you think it
00:20:40
will be complicated to start or do you
00:20:43
feel like no I'm going to keep using my
00:20:45
credit card and I'll pay it at the end
00:20:46
of the month or you feel like I think
00:20:49
that's a good system I think I may give
00:20:51
it a try so first of all it will
00:20:54
seriously you will hear a lot of
00:20:55
different budgeters saying this has
00:20:57
helped them get out out of debt help
00:20:59
them um pay off their cars buy houses um
00:21:02
pay off their student loans do like
00:21:04
different things and avoid overspending
00:21:07
cuz since you're limiting your cash you
00:21:10
are less likely to buy stuff and like I
00:21:12
said when you see that money in your
00:21:14
hands you are going to be like I am not
00:21:16
spending my money and I was kind of like
00:21:19
oh my gosh I cannot believe I'm not
00:21:20
spending my money so it it it was like a
00:21:24
game Cher so and then last but not least
00:21:27
it does reduce Financial stress so
00:21:29
knowing that you do have money set aside
00:21:32
and also this preps you to be able to
00:21:36
save larger amounts so that if you do
00:21:38
see if you do save larger amounts and
00:21:41
you see something and you ask yourself
00:21:43
do I really need it so you'll be more
00:21:46
mindful of and strategic on what you
00:21:50
spend your money on thank you so much
00:21:52
for watching in conclusion as you can
00:21:54
see the envelope system has done wonders
00:21:57
for me and I have no intentions of stop
00:22:00
doing the cash envelope system so thank
00:22:02
you guys so much for watching and if you
