Papa 1 Papa two Papa 3
00:00:02
papa no promoted demoted depending on
00:00:06
where
00:00:07
you is the glass half full or half
00:00:10
[Music]
00:00:15
empty hello this is Tobias Forge from
00:00:18
Ghost I am here to react to uh
00:00:23
characters of the clergy so we'll see
00:00:27
what my reactions might be yeah very
00:00:30
crude but cool it is popping I wonder if
00:00:35
this it's hard to tell I mean we did a
00:00:37
lot of shows on the first tour the first
00:00:39
album cycle it looks like one of those
00:00:41
in in maybe London or might have been K
00:00:45
but I don't remember if this is the
00:00:46
place some someone might correct me like
00:00:49
this is the n no it's not well I mean
00:00:53
the first
00:00:54
era he was uh he was never properly like
00:00:58
introduced as as a a potential impostor
00:01:02
as as any of the other Papas after him
00:01:05
has been there's always been push back
00:01:07
as soon as someone new came in it was
00:01:09
always like whereas the first show we
00:01:12
ever did was in bburg so that was the
00:01:15
first time anyone ever saw it now of
00:01:17
course that that Festival was a little
00:01:19
bit of a too cool for school metal Fest
00:01:22
really cool bance I mean it's a cool
00:01:24
Festival but but a very like no no
00:01:27
spontaneous outbreak of of of overjoy we
00:01:31
also warmed up a little just a day after
00:01:34
or something that when we' done one show
00:01:37
and then we flew to London and played a
00:01:38
show there at the Camden underworld I
00:01:41
don't know this might be Camden
00:01:42
underworld I'm not sure that would have
00:01:44
been our second show and that was
00:01:46
definitely a little bit the crow was
00:01:47
very nubri and sang along a lot uh then
00:01:52
I knew that we were on the right path
00:01:56
yeah costume wise it had um Advanced
00:02:01
slightly I basically contacted a local
00:02:04
seamstress in Lyn shoing where I lived
00:02:07
you know she was like a pro like a
00:02:09
professional seamstress and she was like
00:02:11
yeah you know she she had a certain cck
00:02:14
and sort of church attire that she would
00:02:18
make for like the I guess the local
00:02:20
church in in in L shpping so I was like
00:02:23
okay let's uh take a little bit of that
00:02:26
and uh well I'm going to need a hat like
00:02:28
this and a hat like that and went over
00:02:31
to the the lace department and just
00:02:34
like this looks cool if you take this
00:02:36
lace and this lace and this lace and
00:02:39
these buttons and sort of put them
00:02:40
together that might make this cool thing
00:02:43
for the middle it was really that like
00:02:46
crude might have been an embroidery
00:02:49
machine so the the grucifix is here it
00:02:53
was literally like here data file
00:02:55
print and and those came out like so how
00:02:59
how many many do you want like oh six 1
00:03:02
2 3 4 5 six so ad hoc every day just
00:03:06
felt like or every month or every tour
00:03:08
just felt like this is almost over so
00:03:14
let's have fun for as long as we can
00:03:17
next picture is same uh outfit I'm
00:03:20
trying to remember
00:03:24
why am Meritus second uh in in uh not
00:03:29
make
00:03:31
makeup sort of came about there was this
00:03:34
big spin-off with you know Papa Meritus
00:03:36
2 minus the the M makeup is the same as
00:03:39
Papa Meritus number two with the makeup
00:03:42
but somehow people were just like oh
00:03:44
it's another character I don't know who
00:03:46
I'm looking at no it's the same guy he
00:03:48
was just not wearing the same attire
00:03:52
this has been confusing for me too
00:03:54
Meritus 3 so all these three first dudes
00:03:58
are brothers and the age difference
00:04:01
between two and three is like 3 months
00:04:05
and anybody with like a biological
00:04:08
knowledge might say that that's that's
00:04:10
NE possible it is if you have two
00:04:13
mothers so that some says something
00:04:15
about the father number three this is
00:04:18
where uh things got a little bit more
00:04:22
um um interesting in terms of uh design
00:04:27
we started working with beia b b
00:04:31
ulun um for this album it turned out
00:04:34
really cool I mean it was it was also
00:04:37
based on a
00:04:39
similar Mo as as this the previous one
00:04:43
uh a lot of lace a lot of um material
00:04:48
but this was more from a worldwide point
00:04:51
of view like picked up a little bit here
00:04:53
and there and I think if I just go back
00:04:55
one there are little medallions or what
00:04:58
look like medallions on on its uh placed
00:05:02
the medallions were like glue and like
00:05:06
old uh Gru fixes and stuff so it was
00:05:09
like a grucifix with the chain and
00:05:11
everything and just like put together
00:05:14
with the all kinds of little brushes or
00:05:17
something like it was really really cool
00:05:20
oh
00:05:21
yeah this was a big step for for the
00:05:25
band uh because I was feeling already on
00:05:28
the second album cycle on on number
00:05:32
two that going around being spooky is is
00:05:35
is fun and all but it's um sooner or
00:05:39
later it's going to you know wear off
00:05:42
because when you play a longer show
00:05:45
longer than an hour sooner or later is
00:05:47
going to start coming off as stale and
00:05:48
still standing and just not fun so
00:05:51
therefore Papa M just got this getup
00:05:54
that was uh inspired by um Charles III I
00:05:58
guess the uh swed Swedish King from late
00:06:03
1700s when he claimed a throne he he had
00:06:06
a costume like that so that's basically
00:06:09
basically taken from Charles II that
00:06:12
differed definitely from Pap amerus 2
00:06:16
both one and two had more like a dirty
00:06:18
traditional
00:06:20
Halloween kind of thing it's small
00:06:23
nuances but you can see that it's more
00:06:24
like linear more straight lines and
00:06:28
angles po
00:06:32
sibling to Papa 123 also L lot of cool
00:06:37
embroidery on that
00:06:39
one sister imperator for the um the
00:06:44
observant you might have noticed that
00:06:47
there has been a a little bit of a
00:06:50
circulation of sister sisters what uh
00:06:54
breaks my heart here a little is that
00:06:56
this particular one passed away which
00:06:59
was a drag because she she was a very
00:07:02
fun and cool actress the whole idea of
00:07:05
casting is is sometimes fun part of my
00:07:07
job because um you know first sister was
00:07:11
obviously she she was who she was she
00:07:14
just came in and did her job and and
00:07:16
then at a certain point she she proved
00:07:19
very hard to work with and basically
00:07:20
bowed out and then uh we had to find
00:07:24
someone who like looked almost like her
00:07:27
or as as close as you can Poss possibly
00:07:29
get uh hence the car accident and then
00:07:33
uh when from one day to another
00:07:36
literally when we were shooting episodes
00:07:39
and we were going to shoot episodes
00:07:41
again she had passed away and so you had
00:07:44
to sort of do that thing again where we
00:07:46
had to find someone who looked like her
00:07:48
and the other one so far I think we we
00:07:50
we did really well however now now I
00:07:53
just moved over to the next picture that
00:07:55
picture is taken by my sister my old old
00:07:59
old apartment with black
00:08:02
cloth in the back the casso were the
00:08:06
same you know what we asked local
00:08:09
seamstress to do for uh Papa's
00:08:13
undergarment was basically uh one ended
00:08:16
up being the ghoul suits you know the
00:08:19
idea is always for them always been for
00:08:22
them to be a uniformed bunch of um
00:08:27
soldiers if you will in this case with
00:08:30
uh very generic uh
00:08:34
alchemic uh symbols I remember we were
00:08:37
in in
00:08:38
Denmark we took this photo with the
00:08:43
obligatory smoke Esther cagara took this
00:08:46
picture yeah this is
00:08:48
um
00:08:50
another ghoul suit that was meant to
00:08:54
look like a um pilot
00:08:58
diver but but as as if it was
00:09:01
some uh underwater airplane in the 1800s
00:09:06
the the whole look of the cycle was
00:09:08
supposed to be a little bit more
00:09:10
specific it was it was influenced by St
00:09:13
panr Station in London where you had
00:09:16
sort of goth uh meets Victorian
00:09:19
industrialism we're jumping back in time
00:09:22
after Papa 3 came Cardinal copia before
00:09:27
it felt a little bit you know repetitive
00:09:29
and kind of predictable Papa one Papa
00:09:32
two Papa 3
00:09:33
papa no so you know we needed to break
00:09:36
things up a little how about introducing
00:09:38
a character who hasn't really fully
00:09:42
bloomed yet and um hence Cardinal copia
00:09:46
this is the first time uh ghoul costumes
00:09:49
were made also with be arand and and
00:09:53
sort of her under her
00:09:56
curation and Godfather to
00:10:00
there's this wonderful
00:10:02
scene with uh what's his name insert
00:10:05
name here who is like the most dawn of
00:10:08
all of them he's like he's like someone
00:10:12
impersonating uh the Marlon Brando
00:10:15
character you know where Marlon
00:10:17
obviously sort of did it cool and if
00:10:19
someone sort of like does that as a joke
00:10:22
and I always found found that character
00:10:25
uh one very funny and also that he had
00:10:27
really cool clothes so I wanted Cardinal
00:10:30
copia to have a getup that was similar
00:10:32
to to that one here we go Cardinal
00:10:37
made Papa photos taken at the Stockholm
00:10:40
City Hall really cool room it's huge
00:10:44
Hall with with golden ornate uh Mosaic
00:10:48
on on the walls it looks absolutely
00:10:50
amazing it's been really amazing taking
00:10:52
these pictures in cool locations much
00:10:55
thanks to Nicolas yanson at Universal
00:10:57
very good friend of mine but also he has
00:11:00
a nose for for um locations location is
00:11:04
key you can take cool pictures with you
00:11:06
know with black background and and white
00:11:08
background and all that and or you can
00:11:09
impose anything that you want but when
00:11:11
you have a a great location it looks
00:11:15
fabulous M fourth the first picture that
00:11:19
picture was taken in U Mexico on in
00:11:23
March 2020 when we thought that a new
00:11:27
album is going to be recorded and you
00:11:29
know hopefully within half a year or
00:11:33
half a year but within nine months we
00:11:34
were going to have a new album out no
00:11:37
but we managed to uh introduce him uh
00:11:40
papus IV being the elevated Cardinal
00:11:44
copia on that show in Mexico City which
00:11:47
was cool po Meritus as uh one of the
00:11:50
baseball Furies you know growing up with
00:11:52
80s V video violence uh the Warriors was
00:11:57
of course a big big film when the uh
00:12:01
opportunity knocked to do something
00:12:03
baseball esque it was a no-brainer of
00:12:06
course papa merus ivth is a baseball
00:12:09
Fury frer imperator that's where we're
00:12:12
at that's where he he's at promoted
00:12:15
demoted depending on where
00:12:18
you is the glass half full or half empty
00:12:21
that's something that you need to come
00:12:22
to terms with in life he has an
00:12:24
important role it needs to uh land into
00:12:27
in in his mind that he's important still
00:12:30
even though he's not the focal
00:12:33
point V is
00:12:35
coming it's true each one has an element
00:12:38
of course that I I like or or something
00:12:40
that I could look back on with a certain
00:12:42
degree of Joy uh I definitely think that
00:12:48
Papa 3 with the addition of something as
00:12:51
easy as pants made the show better and
00:12:55
made the show more fun first Cardinal uh
00:12:59
when he was just Cardinal was fun
00:13:01
because of the different attires that
00:13:03
you talking about different colors there
00:13:04
are elements in in in each that are that
00:13:07
are fun but but for me as an Entertainer
00:13:09
I think that uh even from a novelty
00:13:13
point of view the newly found Fame of
00:13:16
and the feeling of of the band sort of
00:13:18
making it was of course fun on the first
00:13:21
two albums but uh I think from an from
00:13:25
an enter being or wanting to be an
00:13:27
Entertainer uh point of view it
00:13:30
definitely got more interesting and more
00:13:32
fun after where it
00:13:35
was slightly
00:13:37
more um intuitively doing uh more fun
00:13:43
stuff rather than sort of just
00:13:45
like doing that
00:13:49
uh thank you for watching cheers
