L apwoche sa atravè twa etap prensipal: premye, idantifye zòn nan ou bezwen amelyore; dezyèm, eksperimante ak opòtinite nouvo; ak twazyèm, sèvi ak sa ou aprann pou amelyore kontinyèlman. Li enplike refleksyon sou sante, travay, ak relasyon, ak bezwen pataje ak kolabore avè lòt moun. Estrateji ak alè yo se zouti pou ede atenn objektif sa yo.
Takeaways
- 🧘♂️ Defini objektif nan sante, travay, ak relasyon.
- 💡 Eksperimante ak ide nouvo pou jwenn sa ki mache.
- 🔄 Itilize yon pwosesis iteratif pou amelyore lavi ou.

Timeline
- 00:00:00 - 00:05:00
Nou ka divize lavi a an twa pati prensipal: Sante, Travay / Lajan, ak Relasyon.
- 00:10:00 - 00:15:00
Nan twazyèm etap la, iterasyon vin enpòtan. Sa vle di ke nou refè ak modifye aksyon nou yo sou baz eksperyans nou deja genyen. Sèvi ak enfòmasyon ki soti nan eksperimantasyon yo ede nou deside ki kote yo ka amelyore yo plis. Sa a se yon sik kontinyèl kote nou idantifye, fè eksperimantasyon, ak iterasyon, kote nou konsakre tèt nou pou konstwi lavi nou ak tout sa ki genyen ladan li.
- 00:15:00 - 00:24:02

- 00:00:00what are the principal strategies and
- 00:00:01tools that we can learn from the world
- 00:00:03of evidence about how to genuinely
- 00:00:04answer the question of how do I build a
- 00:00:06life that I love how do I know what to
- 00:00:07do with my life and let's take like a
- 00:00:08product designer kind of design thinking
- 00:00:11approach to this and actually figure it
- 00:00:12out so I have got three steps for you
- 00:00:14step one step two and step three step
- 00:00:17one we're gonna call identify or we can
- 00:00:21also call that kind of get clarity
- 00:00:23um and then we will talk about step two
- 00:00:24in just a moment
- 00:00:27step one is to basically identify how do
- 00:00:30we identify basically what we need to do
- 00:00:32there is figure out like what is
- 00:00:34actually the problem on a scale of zero
- 00:00:35to ten to what extent are you living a
- 00:00:37life that you love if you're anything
- 00:00:38other than a 10 but also if you're a 10
- 00:00:40out of 10 it's worth figuring out like
- 00:00:42what actually is the problem like in
- 00:00:44what areas of life do you actually want
- 00:00:47to be doing something like like what is
- 00:00:49this gap between where you want to be
- 00:00:51and where you currently are and what
- 00:00:52does that look like in the in different
- 00:00:54areas of life so let's think about this
- 00:00:56how do we split up life into into a
- 00:00:57thing that makes sense for me there's
- 00:00:59like sort of four or three I I sort of
- 00:01:01think of it in three three parts
- 00:01:03sometimes four some sort of like I'm
- 00:01:04just gonna give you my like the the
- 00:01:05framework I use and you can kind of pick
- 00:01:07and choose whatever works for you here
- 00:01:08but essentially like what are the what
- 00:01:10are the aspects of life that we care
- 00:01:12about so the first one is Health the
- 00:01:14second one is like work slash money
- 00:01:16slash career you know all that kind of
- 00:01:19stuff you know let's call it work slash
- 00:01:20wealth that whole bucket of things
- 00:01:22bucket of things
- 00:01:24third one is relationship chips slash
- 00:01:27love slash friends slash family like all
- 00:01:30that kind of stuff that's like one big
- 00:01:32bucket you know what let's let's just
- 00:01:33focus on these three like there are
- 00:01:35other things that you can do like there
- 00:01:37are some people that would put play in
- 00:01:39here or like
- 00:01:42um purpose slash Mission or like
- 00:01:45spirituality or like learning like
- 00:01:48there's all there's dozens and dozens of
- 00:01:51ways of splitting up what like a good
- 00:01:53life is
- 00:01:54um but just for the sake of Simplicity
- 00:01:56we're just going to split it up into
- 00:01:57Health work and relationships nice and
- 00:01:59easy very few people would disagree with
- 00:02:01the idea that Health work and
- 00:02:03relationships are like the three main
- 00:02:05three of the main key areas of life and
- 00:02:08if you can live a life that you love in
- 00:02:09terms of health physical health mental
- 00:02:10health and stuff work and relationships
- 00:02:12then you're winning essentially all we
- 00:02:14want to do when it comes to building a
- 00:02:16life that we love is we just want to
- 00:02:18start taking steps in the right
- 00:02:20direction across each of these three
- 00:02:21Realms Health work and relationships so
- 00:02:24a question you want to ask yourself is
- 00:02:25when it comes to my physical and mental
- 00:02:28health what what is one step that I can
- 00:02:30take to get closer to where I want to be
- 00:02:32or to get closer to building a life that
- 00:02:34I love when it comes to my physical
- 00:02:35health for me it's I know from when it
- 00:02:37comes to my physical health I want to
- 00:02:39eat more I want to take my diet more
- 00:02:40seriously and I want to take exercise
- 00:02:41more seriously and I've got a goal that
- 00:02:43I kind of want to be a gymshark athlete
- 00:02:45and I kind of want a body like Sam
- 00:02:46colder like that's like to me a cool
- 00:02:48goal to aim towards so it's like cool
- 00:02:51now I have identified what I think a
- 00:02:54life that I love would be in terms of
- 00:02:55health that's not to say I'm not
- 00:02:56currently living a life I love and it's
- 00:02:57like oh cool it would be cool to go on
- 00:02:59that journey to get to that point and
- 00:03:01I've identified what the goal is
- 00:03:02similarly when it comes to work like how
- 00:03:04do I ideally want to be spending my time
- 00:03:06what are the things I actually want to
- 00:03:07be doing and in particular like is the
- 00:03:10way that I'm currently spending my time
- 00:03:12does that energize me and I often think
- 00:03:14about this it's like if I look at my
- 00:03:15calendar if I look at the things that I
- 00:03:18actually do with my time how many of
- 00:03:19those energize me and how many of those
- 00:03:21drain me and another question I think
- 00:03:23about I'm just gonna give you all the
- 00:03:24different Frameworks that I use for this
- 00:03:25is it's it's what I call the the fast
- 00:03:28forward test where are we so it's like
- 00:03:32fast
- 00:03:33forward
- 00:03:37test
- 00:03:40the fast forward test is basically let's
- 00:03:42take a standard day in your life and and
- 00:03:44let's say you know with each with each
- 00:03:46thing that you do you have the option to
- 00:03:48fast forward to the end of the thing
- 00:03:50do you press the button like where you
- 00:03:52don't experience the thing that you're
- 00:03:54doing you just fast forward to the end
- 00:03:55and get the result at the end like for
- 00:03:56example let's say you have a day job do
- 00:03:58you choose to fast forward meetings
- 00:04:00and just so you can get to the end of
- 00:04:02them if you could fast forward to the
- 00:04:04end of your workday would you choose to
- 00:04:06fast forward to the end of your work day
- 00:04:07now back when I was working as a doctor
- 00:04:09I actually would if you'd offered me a
- 00:04:11fast forward button I would have pressed
- 00:04:12it because even though it was kind of
- 00:04:13fun there was still a better things I
- 00:04:16would have wanted to be doing and if I'd
- 00:04:17been given a fast forward button I would
- 00:04:18have pressed that button almost every
- 00:04:20workday I wouldn't have pressed that
- 00:04:21button if I was teaching medical
- 00:04:23students because I genuinely enjoyed
- 00:04:24teaching medical students and I got a
- 00:04:26lot of energy out of it I wouldn't press
- 00:04:28the fast forward button doing this live
- 00:04:29stream right now because it's quite fun
- 00:04:31and I feel like you get energy from it
- 00:04:32and so I find that that fast forward
- 00:04:34test is a way of figuring out like am I
- 00:04:37actually living a life I love because to
- 00:04:39me like my definition of a life that I
- 00:04:41love is one where I wouldn't fast
- 00:04:44forward very many things in my life
- 00:04:45because I'd wanna I'd actually want to
- 00:04:46experience the things that I'm doing and
- 00:04:48then finally when it comes to
- 00:04:48relationships we talked about health
- 00:04:49work and relationships basically what
- 00:04:51we're trying to do is just figure out
- 00:04:52like where do we want to be and where
- 00:04:55are we currently at and just generate
- 00:04:56some ideas it's all about generating
- 00:04:58ideas and again coming back to this idea
- 00:05:00that we talked about at the beginning
- 00:05:01this sort of design thinking thing like
- 00:05:04let's say you want to create something
- 00:05:05like an iPhone the way the iPhone is
- 00:05:07created it's not like someone has an
- 00:05:08idea for like the iPhone is going to
- 00:05:10happen and then they invent the iPhone
- 00:05:11it's like they figure out what is the
- 00:05:12problem they identify they get clarity
- 00:05:15on what's wrong with what's on the
- 00:05:16market right now and then they throw a
- 00:05:18lot of ideas it's like throwing a lot of
- 00:05:19spaghetti at the wall and seeing what
- 00:05:20sticks and using that spaghetti and
- 00:05:23those ideas throwing and like taking
- 00:05:24steps in different directions and
- 00:05:27getting data over time so this whole
- 00:05:29thing of building a life that you love
- 00:05:30like the mistake I find that people make
- 00:05:32with this is that it's it's too easy to
- 00:05:34think of it as being a one and done
- 00:05:35thing but actually it's a very long
- 00:05:37process over the course of our entire
- 00:05:39life we're constantly striving to build
- 00:05:41a life that we love while enjoying the
- 00:05:43journey along the way so design thinking
- 00:05:45identify get clarity on what this what
- 00:05:48this actually looks like one way of
- 00:05:50doing that so we talked about the fast
- 00:05:52forward test that's one way of doing
- 00:05:53that the other way of doing that is
- 00:05:55something called The Odyssey plan
- 00:05:59now I first came across this in 2019 and
- 00:06:02it's sick this exercise has changed the
- 00:06:05life of me and so many other people that
- 00:06:07I know the Odyssey plan is an exercise
- 00:06:09that's from um designing your life the
- 00:06:12Stanford Business School thing about how
- 00:06:14to design life that you love and it's
- 00:06:16basically the idea that you ask yourself
- 00:06:17three questions number one you ask
- 00:06:19yourself five years from now what does
- 00:06:21my current life look like like if I were
- 00:06:23to fast forward five years what would a
- 00:06:25day in my life look like then number two
- 00:06:27you're like all right cool scrap that if
- 00:06:29I were to take a completely different
- 00:06:30path
- 00:06:31five years from now what does my life
- 00:06:33look like cool now you scrap that and
- 00:06:35then you think okay number three five
- 00:06:37years from now what does my life look
- 00:06:39like if I take a different path but
- 00:06:40where I don't have to worry about money
- 00:06:42and I don't have to worry about what
- 00:06:44other people expect of me or societal
- 00:06:46expectations or societal obligations or
- 00:06:47if I won the lottery like and what you
- 00:06:50essentially do is that with the Odyssey
- 00:06:52plan you map out what are those three
- 00:06:54paths
- 00:06:56now the point of this is not to commit
- 00:06:58to any one of those paths but it's just
- 00:07:00to systematically try and answer the
- 00:07:01question what does it mean to me to
- 00:07:03build a life that I love and in back in
- 00:07:052019 I was still working full-time as a
- 00:07:06doctor and my whole life plan was that I
- 00:07:08was going to do training and anesthetics
- 00:07:10I was going to become a physiology
- 00:07:11supervisor in Cambridge I was going to
- 00:07:13become a fellow of Emmanuel College
- 00:07:14which is the college I went to and I was
- 00:07:16going to do like I don't know four days
- 00:07:17a week training and anesthetics and
- 00:07:18become an anesthetist or
- 00:07:20anesthesiologist if you're in the US
- 00:07:21that was my whole plan and I kind of
- 00:07:24wrote out in pretty reasonable detail
- 00:07:26what that looks like five years from now
- 00:07:27and then I asked myself I looked at that
- 00:07:30I was like
- 00:07:31this is just not very exciting the
- 00:07:33thought of this being my life five years
- 00:07:36from now does not actually energize me
- 00:07:38it does not excite me
- 00:07:39and that was a massive thing for me of
- 00:07:42like oh crap like this path that I've
- 00:07:44been going on is not actually a path
- 00:07:46that I want to be on and so that
- 00:07:47resulted in me basically kind of
- 00:07:48re-evaluating my life and changing up
- 00:07:51where I ended up and that's how I
- 00:07:52actually ended up here today speaking to
- 00:07:54you on this live stream because I
- 00:07:55decided that actually this YouTube stuff
- 00:07:56and the teaching stuff and the writing
- 00:07:58stuff and writing a book and all of that
- 00:07:59seemed to me at the time to be more
- 00:08:01exciting and more energizing and this is
- 00:08:03the thing that I did about three years
- 00:08:04ago and I think like are you know doing
- 00:08:05it every few years or even every year
- 00:08:07depending on how quickly your life is
- 00:08:08changing is like helpful because again
- 00:08:10it just generates some ideas and really
- 00:08:12it just comes down to this thing of like
- 00:08:15how do you identify what
- 00:08:17living a life you love means means for
- 00:08:19you a big part of it is to generate
- 00:08:21ideas of what it could look like because
- 00:08:23you're never going to know unless you
- 00:08:24try things out you can kind of analysis
- 00:08:26paralysis yourself with this all you
- 00:08:28like until you actually try things out
- 00:08:29you're never going to know what a life
- 00:08:31that you love actually means and for me
- 00:08:33I recognized when I was in medical
- 00:08:34school that like um
- 00:08:36if I become a full-time doctor that to
- 00:08:39me is not really a life that I love cool
- 00:08:40what are some other things I can do how
- 00:08:42can I dip my toes into a bunch of
- 00:08:43different things how can I you know I
- 00:08:45tried starting a med tech app I started
- 00:08:47joined a lot of societies I started
- 00:08:48tried starting a business and the
- 00:08:51business stuff was fun the med tech
- 00:08:52stuff was fun the teaching stuff was
- 00:08:53really fun so I was like cool I'm
- 00:08:55enjoying the thing I'm taking steps
- 00:08:57towards this thing still not fully
- 00:08:58enjoying medicine itself but like I
- 00:08:59really enjoy teaching medical students
- 00:09:00maybe I could take some steps down the
- 00:09:02teaching route and I took some steps
- 00:09:03down that path and some more dining
- 00:09:04entrepreneur entrepreneurship path and
- 00:09:06eventually landed on this YouTube
- 00:09:07channel where I was like oh hello
- 00:09:08there's something here let's take some
- 00:09:10more steps and it's a constant stage of
- 00:09:12like just putting building blocks down
- 00:09:13over time and eventually building to a
- 00:09:15point where I can comfortably say that
- 00:09:17I'm a 10 out of 10 on the I currently
- 00:09:18live a life that I love scale but I'm
- 00:09:20still over time trying to kind of
- 00:09:22increase increase that as well and try
- 00:09:24oh I want to increase that I guess I'm
- 00:09:26still over time trying to continuously
- 00:09:28put down blocks which is why I have
- 00:09:30goals in the realm of health and
- 00:09:31relationships and work and all this kind
- 00:09:32of stuff so anyway all that to say that
- 00:09:35that is
- 00:09:36I'm doing I'm being quite rambly here
- 00:09:38step one of this method
- 00:09:40how to build a life that you love step
- 00:09:42one is you identify some options ideas
- 00:09:45and options what are some things you
- 00:09:47could try it's all about trying to find
- 00:09:49things that we can try and then step two
- 00:09:52is experiment
- 00:09:55and I love the word experiment I love
- 00:09:57the word experiment because it's kind of
- 00:09:58sciency and it makes me think of myself
- 00:10:00as a bit of a science bro but I also
- 00:10:01love the word experiment because it just
- 00:10:03it takes the pressure off back when I
- 00:10:05started my YouTube channel it was not a
- 00:10:06case of I'm going to start a YouTube
- 00:10:07channel it's going to be successful and
- 00:10:09I know what I'm doing it was a case of I
- 00:10:11have an idea identify that hey maybe I
- 00:10:14can put a building block down towards
- 00:10:16building a life I love by starting a
- 00:10:18YouTube channel cool now let's turn this
- 00:10:19into an experiment let's give it a go
- 00:10:21let's see what happens I made a video on
- 00:10:23my bed being like hey I'm just gonna
- 00:10:25start a vlog so for the past few days
- 00:10:27I've kind of had the idea that it would
- 00:10:29be really cool to start with vlogging
- 00:10:31and I was like cool let's just put it up
- 00:10:32there edited in Premiere watched a few
- 00:10:35tutorials I was like cool I'm gonna just
- 00:10:36put some stuff out there I'm gonna throw
- 00:10:38spaghetti in the world and see what
- 00:10:39sticks and I was like you know what I'm
- 00:10:40gonna make some bmap tutorial videos
- 00:10:42because I had a business helping people
- 00:10:43get into med school why don't I make
- 00:10:44some videos teaching people how to get
- 00:10:45to med school and then people started
- 00:10:47asking me do some Vlogs of Life as a as
- 00:10:50a medical student I was like cool I'll
- 00:10:51do some Vlogs about life as a medical
- 00:10:53student see what happens then people
- 00:10:54started asking me hey how do you study
- 00:10:56for exams you seem intelligent like
- 00:10:58teach us how to study I was like all
- 00:10:59right cool I'll do that and at every
- 00:11:01step I didn't have a plan I had no idea
- 00:11:02what I was doing but I was just taking
- 00:11:04some small steps along the path putting
- 00:11:06the blocks down towards just exploring
- 00:11:08this Avenue and there are loads of
- 00:11:09people I know who start a YouTube
- 00:11:10channel
- 00:11:11for whom they realized six months in you
- 00:11:13know what this isn't for me I've tried
- 00:11:14the experiment I don't enjoy it I don't
- 00:11:17want to do this thing but for me I tried
- 00:11:18the experiment and it went well I was
- 00:11:20like oh cool this is actually kind of
- 00:11:21fun it's energizing it's exciting this
- 00:11:23is good I like the idea of being a
- 00:11:24YouTuber let's continue down this path
- 00:11:26and so that's that that's where this
- 00:11:27idea of experimenting comes in and you
- 00:11:31know there's another way of thinking of
- 00:11:33it is you know prototypes
- 00:11:35like if we go back to our sort of design
- 00:11:37thinking thinking example let's say
- 00:11:39you're trying to design the new to
- 00:11:40design the iPhone from scratch and
- 00:11:41people have no idea what's going on they
- 00:11:44worked with like hundreds thousands of
- 00:11:45different prototypes that what would it
- 00:11:47look like if the touchscreen was like
- 00:11:48this what would it look like if and the
- 00:11:50button was in the middle or on the top
- 00:11:51or on the side if we had a back button
- 00:11:53they tried out so many of these things
- 00:11:54and they were just trying out
- 00:11:55experiments to see what works and they
- 00:11:57were getting data from those experiments
- 00:11:59in their internal testing to see is this
- 00:12:01actually the thing that we want to make
- 00:12:02it's just all about experimentation you
- 00:12:04get an idea and then you try it out and
- 00:12:06the mistake that people make like you
- 00:12:07know this is a massive massive issue
- 00:12:09that I see is that over here
- 00:12:12they kind of don't do anything
- 00:12:14they have an idea it's like oh I reckon
- 00:12:16it'll be cool to start a podcast or
- 00:12:17start a YouTube channel and they don't
- 00:12:19take action they let the fear of getting
- 00:12:21started stop them from just even
- 00:12:22experimenting but the point is it's all
- 00:12:24about having this sort of experimental
- 00:12:25and prototyping attitude to I guess life
- 00:12:29and really the way I think of it is what
- 00:12:31is the smallest step that I can take
- 00:12:33it's all about the smallest step this is
- 00:12:35another area where I see a lot of at
- 00:12:36least in the context of YouTube in
- 00:12:37context of my part-time YouTuber Academy
- 00:12:38people make mistakes where it's like oh
- 00:12:40I don't know if I should completely
- 00:12:42change my Niche it's like I don't I
- 00:12:44don't want to do makeup content anymore
- 00:12:45let's see a different I don't want to do
- 00:12:47productivity content anymore I want to
- 00:12:48do Finance content now and they start
- 00:12:50thinking like oh my God my whole channel
- 00:12:51is going to become a finance Channel how
- 00:12:53do I do this what's the plan I don't
- 00:12:55know okay your idea is maybe you like
- 00:12:57the idea of making Finance content what
- 00:12:59is the smallest step you can take can
- 00:13:00you put out a community post being like
- 00:13:02hey thinking of making a finance video
- 00:13:03what do you guys think can you just put
- 00:13:04out a single video can you do a live
- 00:13:06stream where you talk about Finance like
- 00:13:07what is the smallest step you can take
- 00:13:09to experiment with this idea and see if
- 00:13:11you actually enjoy the thing and then we
- 00:13:13come to the tip number three or kind of
- 00:13:16number step number three which is to
- 00:13:18iterate
- 00:13:20and this is another thing that they do
- 00:13:21in startups and product design and
- 00:13:23anything like that you have an idea you
- 00:13:25make the thing you prototype you do an
- 00:13:27experiment and then you iterate you see
- 00:13:29how it felt to do the thing and then you
- 00:13:31improve based on that thing that you've
- 00:13:33done and it always becomes this like
- 00:13:35sort of constant experimentation
- 00:13:37feedback loop where you identify you
- 00:13:40experiment and then you iterate and then
- 00:13:42you go back to identifying so again like
- 00:13:44to use an example like I know I
- 00:13:46identified I want to have a body like
- 00:13:47Sam coder for whatever for whatever
- 00:13:49that's worth and so now I'm
- 00:13:50experimenting I'm like you know what I'm
- 00:13:51gonna hire a personal trainer I'm going
- 00:13:52to try going to the gym uh personal
- 00:13:54trainer a didn't quite enjoy the
- 00:13:55sessions too many High Reps the volume
- 00:13:58was too high cool let's try another
- 00:14:01method and so I downloaded Jeff
- 00:14:02niphard's Guide to the minimalist
- 00:14:04workout routine the other day and I
- 00:14:06found another personal trainer and then
- 00:14:08I'm gonna say to him look man I don't
- 00:14:09like doing like 20 reps of stuff I just
- 00:14:11want to do the sort of five to eight rep
- 00:14:12range can we try that because I want to
- 00:14:14get a body like Sam colder there's like
- 00:14:15these are trivial examples but it's it's
- 00:14:17the idea of Step One identify an area in
- 00:14:19which you could try to experiment step
- 00:14:21two run that experiment and step three
- 00:14:22use the data to then feed back into
- 00:14:24identifying what you want to do next and
- 00:14:27as long as you're continuing to take
- 00:14:28small steps
- 00:14:29then eventually you just you would
- 00:14:31answer yes to the question of am I
- 00:14:33building a life that I love because
- 00:14:34you're taking small intentional steps in
- 00:14:36each of these different areas to build
- 00:14:38towards a life that you think you want
- 00:14:39but you won't actually know you want it
- 00:14:41until you get there and then you're
- 00:14:42trying to experiment and iterating and
- 00:14:43it becomes like a really fun Loop where
- 00:14:45every day you're taking some actions and
- 00:14:48but but really the key thing here is
- 00:14:49that it is it is all about that sort of
- 00:14:51action taking it's it's all well and
- 00:14:53good analyzing the hell out of things
- 00:14:54and and stuff but really unless it comes
- 00:14:57on a foundation of action and a
- 00:14:59foundation of actually doing stuff
- 00:15:00taking the steps you know there's no use
- 00:15:02reading about how to get six-pack abs
- 00:15:04what actually gets you six or six pack
- 00:15:06abs or gets you in shape is doing the
- 00:15:08exercises it's not reading about doing
- 00:15:09the exercises and it's so easy for nerds
- 00:15:11like you and me you know if you're
- 00:15:13watching this live stream you're
- 00:15:13probably alerted to an extent I'm
- 00:15:15definitely a nerd it's so easy for nerds
- 00:15:16like us to over analyze the hell out of
- 00:15:18things and just not take any action not
- 00:15:19take any steps thinking again mistake
- 00:15:22that loads of people make on my
- 00:15:23part-time YouTuber Academy it's like a
- 00:15:25five-week live course and what they say
- 00:15:26is you know what I'm gonna watch all 660
- 00:15:28hours of content first and once I've
- 00:15:31watched all the content then I will
- 00:15:32start my YouTube channel and I always
- 00:15:34say no don't do that that is like the
- 00:15:35worst thing you can do the thing you
- 00:15:36should do is start your YouTube channel
- 00:15:38right now upload a crappy video with
- 00:15:40your phone right now and then watch the
- 00:15:42live sessions and then do the homework
- 00:15:44each week and as long as you're taking
- 00:15:45action then it's okay to analyze but
- 00:15:47it's not okay to analyze if you're not
- 00:15:49taking action and that's what this whole
- 00:15:50idea of designing your life is kind of
- 00:15:52based around
- 00:15:53identify experiment take action have a
- 00:15:55good time now if you're interested in
- 00:15:57taking this idea of building a life that
- 00:15:58you love seriously you might like to

- 00:17:40curiositystream for sponsoring this
- 00:17:41video so we've got that we've got the
- 00:17:42three-part method I just want to share a
- 00:17:44few tips that I found really useful um
- 00:17:46it's like a handful of things to help me
- 00:17:48personally build a life that I love tip
- 00:17:51number one is the team of builders
- 00:17:53basically you want to have people around
- 00:17:55you who are also trying to build a life
- 00:17:56that they love and you want to support
- 00:17:58each other along in the process it's
- 00:18:00kind of lonely being on the personal
- 00:18:01development Journey if you're just doing
- 00:18:03it by yourself but if you have other
- 00:18:04people around you who are motivating you
- 00:18:05and who are also trying to do the thing
- 00:18:06then it's great again just using our
- 00:18:08part-time YouTuber Academy as an example
- 00:18:10because I think it just it is just a
- 00:18:12microcosm of like a lot of different
- 00:18:14things that people are trying to do
- 00:18:15people are trying to be YouTubers
- 00:18:16they're trying to get over their fear
- 00:18:17they're trying to make money all of
- 00:18:18these things
- 00:18:19um but to use that as an example the
- 00:18:20people that stick to YouTube
- 00:18:22consistently tend to be the ones who
- 00:18:24form accountability groups and
- 00:18:26essentially what an accountability group
- 00:18:27is is like you get a couple of people
- 00:18:28together usually like two or three and
- 00:18:30you decide every week we're gonna have a
- 00:18:32zoom call where we hold each other
- 00:18:33accountable to the things that we're
- 00:18:34going to do people in my team do this
- 00:18:36Tin Tin Angus and buff have a little
- 00:18:38accountability group that meets every
- 00:18:39Monday at 5 PM in fact they did it like
- 00:18:41yeah a few days ago they meet every
- 00:18:43Monday at 5 pm and each of them has the
- 00:18:45floor for like five minutes and they say
- 00:18:46okay here's what I'm working on this
- 00:18:48week and then they check in the
- 00:18:49following week to be like did I actually
- 00:18:51do the thing and this is the idea of
- 00:18:52having a team of Builders around you you
- 00:18:54probably have some friends in your life
- 00:18:55some colleagues some family members even
- 00:18:57people on the internet you can find a
- 00:18:58lot of these accountability groups are
- 00:19:00online where you can find people who are
- 00:19:02also trying to do the same thing and
- 00:19:03it's so much easier to work towards
- 00:19:05building a life that you love if you can
- 00:19:06find a team of Builders to do it with
- 00:19:08you even just a friend even just two
- 00:19:10friends I think three is like an ideal
- 00:19:11size of a WhatsApp group you can do that
- 00:19:13find a team of Builders around you tip
- 00:19:14number two is something I've started
- 00:19:15doing recently that I've got a lot of
- 00:19:17manage out is essentially
- 00:19:20a method called the three alarms what
- 00:19:24are the three alarms well
- 00:19:25the philosophy behind this method the
- 00:19:27three alarm method is the idea that
- 00:19:30actions tend to follow from Identity so
- 00:19:33it's like if I think of myself as
- 00:19:36someone who is a healthy person someone
- 00:19:38who is a gymshark athlete I am more
- 00:19:40likely to make healthy Life Choices when
- 00:19:41it comes to eating well and when it
- 00:19:43comes to exercising if I think of myself
- 00:19:45as someone who cares a lot about
- 00:19:47relationships I'm then more likely to
- 00:19:49take the actions that mean I care a lot
- 00:19:51about relationships it tends not to be
- 00:19:53action first it's not like I'll go to
- 00:19:55the gym x amount of times and then I'll
- 00:19:57start to think of myself as a healthy
- 00:19:58person it's more like when I start
- 00:20:00thinking of myself as a healthy person I
- 00:20:01then start to go to the gym more often
- 00:20:03and the three alarms method is a method
- 00:20:04that my coach Eric partaker came up with
- 00:20:06and he's got a book about this called
- 00:20:07the three alarms I will literally show
- 00:20:09you what is currently on my phone it's a
- 00:20:11bit cringe but that's okay I'm getting
- 00:20:13the fear getting over the fear of being
- 00:20:15being cringy over here this is it let me
- 00:20:17show you my phone this is like no word
- 00:20:18of a lie this is this is what's on my
- 00:20:20phone right now I basically have three
- 00:20:22alarms on my phone the first alarm says
- 00:20:24humble and inspiring teacher
- 00:20:28hello cringe the second alarm says
- 00:20:30gymshark athlete and the third alarm
- 00:20:32says relationship sustainer so basically
- 00:20:35every day at 9am this alarm goes off and
- 00:20:37it just goes and it says humble and
- 00:20:40inspiring teacher because that is the
- 00:20:41identity that I want to embody in my
- 00:20:44work yeah I mean I I cringe a bit as I
- 00:20:46say this I hope you'll forgive me but
- 00:20:48just that reminder that comes up on my
- 00:20:49other watch little product placement and
- 00:20:51on my phone it's enough to remind me
- 00:20:53that yeah those are the things I wanna I
- 00:20:55wanna approach my life with then at 5 PM
- 00:20:56which is as you can see 16 minutes from
- 00:20:58now because it's 1644 this alarm is
- 00:21:00going to go off and it's going to say
- 00:21:01gymshark athlete because that's the
- 00:21:03identity I want to embody
- 00:21:05and that means I've decided I'm gonna go
- 00:21:06to the gym and it's just a reminder oh
- 00:21:08yeah I'm now in gymshark Catholic mode I
- 00:21:10should go to the gym and
- 00:21:11the 30 relationship sustainer again
- 00:21:13sounds a bit cringe but like that's the
- 00:21:15alarm that's going to go off uh at 6 30
- 00:21:17and I've got some friends coming over
- 00:21:18for dinner at 6 30 because I decided I
- 00:21:21want to be the sort of person that
- 00:21:22sustains relationships and builds new
- 00:21:23ones and therefore
- 00:21:25um that's the alarm and it's just nice
- 00:21:27it's nice to have I've been doing this
- 00:21:28I've had these alarms on my phone for
- 00:21:30the last several weeks and I have
- 00:21:31genuinely found it helpful and it's you
- 00:21:33don't have to pay anything for it it's
- 00:21:34free you can just decide in the in the
- 00:21:36realm of work health and relationships
- 00:21:38I.E the three big Realms of Life what's
- 00:21:40the identity you want in body and just
- 00:21:41make an alarm on your phone that
- 00:21:42encourages you to actually do the thing
- 00:21:44the final tip for building a life you
- 00:21:46love
- 00:21:47is also from the book three alarm and
- 00:21:49that's
- 00:21:50um
- 00:21:51I mean he calls it like Champion proofs
- 00:21:53or something like that
- 00:21:57and basically the idea there is every
- 00:21:59day you want to prove to yourself that
- 00:22:02in the three Realms of life that you
- 00:22:04care about in my case you know Health
- 00:22:06work and relationships
- 00:22:09there's three Realms of life you want to
- 00:22:11prove to yourself that like you are
- 00:22:12taking a small action to build a life
- 00:22:15that you love every day and so you can
- 00:22:17plan that at the start of your day each
- 00:22:18morning I look at my bullet Journal when
- 00:22:19I'm doing my planning and I'm just
- 00:22:20thinking to myself okay these are the
- 00:22:22three identities I want to have humble
- 00:22:23and inspiring teacher well uh gymshark
- 00:22:25athlete and relationship sustainer what
- 00:22:27is an action I'm going to take across
- 00:22:28each of those and it might be something
- 00:22:30small and the realm of Health it's today
- 00:22:32I'm going to go to the gym or today I'm
- 00:22:33going to go for a walk or today I'm
- 00:22:35gonna go for a run and that reminds me
- 00:22:37that I am kind of embodying my identity
- 00:22:40of being a gym shark athlete in the
- 00:22:42realm of work humbly inspiring teacher I
- 00:22:44might think you know what
- 00:22:45um like earlier today I decided I was
- 00:22:47going to do this live stream because I
- 00:22:48want to experiment with the idea of
- 00:22:50trying to come across as a helpline
- 00:22:51inspiring teacher LOL cringe uh on
- 00:22:54something like live stream which might
- 00:22:55be kind of fun it might be kind of cool
- 00:22:56and I get to interact with the chat and
- 00:22:57it's been super fun it's that sick and
- 00:23:00then in the relationships front what am
- 00:23:01I doing today well I need to call my
- 00:23:03grandma that's something I still have to
- 00:23:04do she's in Pakistan right now
- 00:23:06um but I've also got this dinner with my
- 00:23:07guy friends who haven't seen in a while
- 00:23:09um so I arranged to dinner a couple
- 00:23:10weeks ago when I decided I wanted to be
- 00:23:12a relationship sustainer so that method
- 00:23:15of like just a few tips that I found
- 00:23:17super super helpful in the last few
- 00:23:18weeks that I genuinely use every day
- 00:23:19thinking about having a team of Builders
- 00:23:21setting these three alarms on my phone
- 00:23:23and kind of sort of reminding myself
- 00:23:26what are these Championship proofs well
- 00:23:28how how will I prove to myself that I
- 00:23:30actually am putting putting down
- 00:23:31building blocks to build a life that I
- 00:23:33love that's what I find helpful
- 00:23:35hopefully you find it helpful as well so
- 00:23:36that brings us to the end of this uh
- 00:23:38somewhat experimental video about how to
- 00:23:39kind of design a build a life that you
- 00:23:41love if you enjoyed this you might like
- 00:23:43to check out that video over there which
- 00:23:44is my video around how I manage my time
- 00:23:46and my favorite productivity tips for
- 00:23:48squeezing most out of my time while
