- 00:00:00I've got the very latest electric SUVs
- 00:00:03and they're the longest range versions
- 00:00:04of each model and I'm going to be
- 00:00:06driving them up north to see how far
- 00:00:08they can go on a single charge and see
- 00:00:10how close they get to the manufacturer's
- 00:00:12claimed range I'll also be seeing what
- 00:00:14exactly happens when they run out of
- 00:00:16electricity do they suddenly just like
- 00:00:17con out or can you carry on driving for
- 00:00:19ages when they say they're actually
- 00:00:21empty who knows anyway I'm my Watson and
- 00:00:24you're watching
- 00:00:27carwow this is the recently updated Audi
- 00:00:30Q4 erron it has a battery capacity of
- 00:00:33this and a claimed range of that this is
- 00:00:36the K ev6 and Kia has just given it a
- 00:00:39new battery so the capacity is this and
- 00:00:42now the claimed range is that Tesla's
- 00:00:44also given its model y a new battery
- 00:00:46before the updated Juniper arrives next
- 00:00:48year anyway it has a battery capacity of
- 00:00:50this and a claim range of that this is
- 00:00:54the all new electric Porsche mecan
- 00:00:56loving the color and also liking the
- 00:00:57look anyway it has a battery capacity of
- 00:00:59this
- 00:01:00and a claimed range of that this rather
- 00:01:03weird rear windowless car can only be
- 00:01:06the pulse star for it has a batter
- 00:01:08capacity of this and a range of that
- 00:01:11finally we have the Ford Explorer it has
- 00:01:13a b capacity of this and a range of that
- 00:01:16for this EV range test we have charged
- 00:01:18each of the cars to 100% however we
- 00:01:20could do it here from our starting
- 00:01:21location which is cherwell Valley
- 00:01:23Services because all of these Chargers
- 00:01:24are out of action right now I think
- 00:01:26they're doing some work on them
- 00:01:27fortunately there was a McDonald's just
- 00:01:29around the corner corner with two iony
- 00:01:31Chargers so we have to F the cars
- 00:01:32backwards and forwards not a great start
- 00:01:34they've actually just turned on the
- 00:01:35charger so they're just booting up now
- 00:01:37looks like we got our timing wrong okay
- 00:01:39we're in the cars I'm going to start off
- 00:01:41in the Audi Q4 everyone has got their
- 00:01:43trip reset we've got full batteries we
- 00:01:46are good to go few rules we are not
- 00:01:48going to use the cruise control on the
- 00:01:50cars we're going to drive them ourselves
- 00:01:51while we'll use the climate control and
- 00:01:53set it around 20° we won't be using the
- 00:01:56electric seats cuz they can be a bit of
- 00:01:58a drain on the battery also we're going
- 00:01:59to be running at the speed limit we're
- 00:02:01not going to be going dead slow until we
- 00:02:03reach a point that we are struggling for
- 00:02:05charge and then you're going to do what
- 00:02:07any normal EV driver will do and slow
- 00:02:09down to maximize their range but until
- 00:02:11then we just going Drive normally so
- 00:02:13then Nick lead us away I seem to be
- 00:02:16running in efficiency mode I'm just
- 00:02:18going to run it in auto mode no one
- 00:02:20likes efficiency there we go oh look
- 00:02:23here's another charge point
- 00:02:25which isn't actually working looks brand
- 00:02:27new at least they're putting new ones in
- 00:02:29that's how it should be every petrol
- 00:02:31station you should have fast charging
- 00:02:33maybe we get in there we'll find out on
- 00:02:35this journey how many service stations I
- 00:02:37stop at which have inoperable electric
- 00:02:40car chargers so let me tell you about
- 00:02:41this Audi starts from just under £48,000
- 00:02:44but this one because it's got the
- 00:02:47midlevel motor and the larger battery
- 00:02:50plus it's the top spec in terms of
- 00:02:52equipment it's actually 60,000 though
- 00:02:54you can save an average of just under
- 00:02:57£4,000 off a new Audi Q4 through car
- 00:03:00away now in terms of the Interior they
- 00:03:01haven't really updated this but it still
- 00:03:03looks pretty nice the infotainment
- 00:03:04system is easy to use I like the fact
- 00:03:06that the climate control is separate
- 00:03:08Audi's been doing good digital DS for
- 00:03:10ages now and I don't think there's
- 00:03:12really been much improvement by anyone
- 00:03:14else they're nice clear got plenty of
- 00:03:15information but there are a few things
- 00:03:18like the plastic up here feels a little
- 00:03:20bit hard down here it's a bit scratchy
- 00:03:22and you can tell that this is towards
- 00:03:24the bottom end of the Audi range even
- 00:03:26though it's a £60,000
- 00:03:28car however the way it drives Wes is
- 00:03:30quite nice so this one is on the sport
- 00:03:32suspension it's 50 mm lower than
- 00:03:34standard yet it still goes over bumps
- 00:03:36really well and it hasn't got adaptive
- 00:03:38dampers so that's quite impressive the
- 00:03:40steerings pretty responsive and so too
- 00:03:43is the electric motor we've got 286
- 00:03:46horsepower on this car not 66.7 seconds
- 00:03:49so it's not a rocket ship but it's just
- 00:03:51responsive if you look over there you'll
- 00:03:52see that we've got a scoda Kodiak as our
- 00:03:55camera car so for a bit of fun we've
- 00:03:57actually filled up its tank with diesel
- 00:03:59it's two Diesel and we're going to
- 00:04:01measure how far that goes on a tank of
- 00:04:04fuel we're also going to compare the
- 00:04:05running cost for each of these cars in
- 00:04:07this test at the end of the video so
- 00:04:08that'll look at how much they cost in
- 00:04:10terms of electricity for the journey
- 00:04:12we're doing so I've just clocked over 20
- 00:04:14miles I've got 89% of my battery
- 00:04:17remaining it says I've got a remaining
- 00:04:18range of 236 mil and I've been averaging
- 00:04:232.6 m per Kow hour not brilliant let's
- 00:04:26find out how the other cars are doing
- 00:04:28Kia can you give me your details please
- 00:04:3192% battery I'm averaging 2.7 m per KW
- 00:04:36256 miles remaining Paul star how about
- 00:04:39you 91% of my battery remaining 3 m per
- 00:04:43Kow
- 00:04:45337 mil left of range how about the
- 00:04:48Tesla 90% battery left 286 W hours per
- 00:04:52mile which works out at 3.5 m per kwatt
- 00:04:55hour a projected range of 247 Mi but I
- 00:04:58would imagine the Press person who
- 00:05:00delivered it was a little heavy footed
- 00:05:01so this is only going to go up ooh
- 00:05:03fighting talk how about the Porsche 93%
- 00:05:07of its battery remaining is 3.1 m per KW
- 00:05:11hour
- 00:05:12241 mil and finally the Ford 91% of its
- 00:05:16battery remaining 271 M and I'm
- 00:05:19averaging 3.5 m per kwatt well that's
- 00:05:22quite good so in terms of efficiency
- 00:05:24it's the Ford and the Tesla but really I
- 00:05:27think it's quite close right now
- 00:05:28everything to play for oh one last thing
- 00:05:30scoda Kodiak can you tell me your
- 00:05:33average mpg and your remaining range
- 00:05:3643.8 miles to the gallon and I have
- 00:05:39475 M of range
- 00:05:42remaining ah tell you what it's a bit
- 00:05:44annoying I've got the top of the range
- 00:05:46car but it doesn't seem to have surround
- 00:05:47view cameras just come on
- 00:05:51no that's it it's a bit mean I'm about
- 00:05:55to jump into another car but before I do
- 00:05:57I'm going to give you a quick overview
- 00:05:58of the practicality of this Q4 so knee
- 00:06:01room here in the back's good head room
- 00:06:02is pretty decent there's lots of foot
- 00:06:04space now let's check out the boot space
- 00:06:05so we've got 520 L of capacity but that
- 00:06:09does include this space into here which
- 00:06:11is where all the charging cables are
- 00:06:13let's see how usable It Is by seeing how
- 00:06:15many large men we can fit in it so let's
- 00:06:18try large man number one see if you can
- 00:06:20fit
- 00:06:21in so he fits I wonder if we can fit
- 00:06:24another one in there I think you're
- 00:06:26going to have to top and tail large man
- 00:06:27number two oh no
- 00:06:30it's a good job we get on you're about
- 00:06:33to get on very very well right try and
- 00:06:35squeeze in do you reckon this is doable
- 00:06:38right I don't think this is going to
- 00:06:41shut oh almost but no cigar one last
- 00:06:44thing to note about the Q for is that
- 00:06:46while Audi has updated it and supposedly
- 00:06:49facelifted it they haven't actually
- 00:06:50changed any of the exterior design as
- 00:06:52you can see look there's the
- 00:06:53pre-facelift version the only difference
- 00:06:55is the trim level the design and
- 00:06:57everything is just exactly the same here
- 00:06:59at North Services Northbound on the M1
- 00:07:01there is just one DC charger and it only
- 00:07:05does 60 KW I've now jumped into the K
- 00:07:08ev6 the range starts from just under
- 00:07:10£46,000 however this one being the range
- 00:07:12topping GT line S costs from just under
- 00:07:16£55,000 now you can save an average of
- 00:07:19just over £22,000 on one of these
- 00:07:21through carw and if you want to see how
- 00:07:22much money you can save on your next car
- 00:07:24just click on the pop out Banner ping in
- 00:07:25the top right hand corner of the screen
- 00:07:27or scan the QR code on screen now and
- 00:07:29it's got absolutely everything on it
- 00:07:32I've got heads up display I've got
- 00:07:34wonderful blind spot monitoring cameras
- 00:07:36look you can see that lry just there my
- 00:07:38blind spot I've got the 84 KW battery
- 00:07:41which is the biggest one you can get
- 00:07:42with this car but it's only the single
- 00:07:44motor version It's rear wheeel drive
- 00:07:46puts out 228 horsepower and can do n 60
- 00:07:50in 7.7 seconds now when I put my foot
- 00:07:53down in it the pickup isn't quite as
- 00:07:55strong as in the Audi also just the way
- 00:07:57it goes down the road doesn't feel quite
- 00:07:59as EXP expensive the cabin just feels
- 00:08:02way more high-tech than the Audi you
- 00:08:04have separate climate control buttons
- 00:08:05that look like you can just quickly
- 00:08:06change the temperature like that and
- 00:08:07they're not physical buttons it's like a
- 00:08:09touch sensitive screen it works pretty
- 00:08:11well terms of
- 00:08:12quality yeah it feels about the same as
- 00:08:14the Audi really the seats aren't quite
- 00:08:17so nice though right so we're just
- 00:08:19coming up to 50 Mi and this Kia is
- 00:08:23averaging 3.1 m per kwatt hour and I've
- 00:08:26got 82% of battery remaining which is
- 00:08:29good for a range of 231 mil let's see
- 00:08:32how the other cars are doing what's
- 00:08:33happening with the Q4 3.2 m per kwatt
- 00:08:36hour
- 00:08:3778% remaining on its battery and is
- 00:08:40predicted to do another 226 mil what
- 00:08:44about the pole star poar is doing 29.2
- 00:08:47KW hours per 100 miles which works out
- 00:08:50at 3.4 m per Kow hour it has 83% of its
- 00:08:54battery left and it reckons it can go
- 00:08:56another
- 00:08:58308 mil
- 00:09:00whoa what about the Tesla 222 W hours
- 00:09:04per mile that works out at 4.5 m per KW
- 00:09:08hour battery of 80% and unfortunately my
- 00:09:11range has gone up to 276 M and
- 00:09:14climbing I think s wants to check out
- 00:09:17early and next the Porsche 3.5 m per KW
- 00:09:21hour 86% battery and my range is
- 00:09:25224
- 00:09:27mil seems odd and finally the Ford 3.9 m
- 00:09:32per KW hour I have 82% of my battery
- 00:09:35remaining and that gives me 249 M so it
- 00:09:38appears that the pole star is going to
- 00:09:40go the furthest that's for now though
- 00:09:42unlike the Audi look fall 360 degree
- 00:09:46[Music]
- 00:09:48cameras just going to do a quick
- 00:09:49practicality check there's loads of knee
- 00:09:51room plenty of foot space as well you
- 00:09:53can even like recline the seatbacks
- 00:09:56headro not quite as good as in the Audi
- 00:09:58but there's much in it let's check out
- 00:10:00the boot we've got some storage under
- 00:10:01here the boot capacity including that
- 00:10:03storage under there is 490 L we've got a
- 00:10:06retractable load cover which could come
- 00:10:09in handy for our man test so men
- 00:10:11climbing the
- 00:10:12boot this might be better than the Audi
- 00:10:15G
- 00:10:16on
- 00:10:19right they're in they are in that's
- 00:10:22impressive right I want to show you
- 00:10:23something not only can we fit the guys
- 00:10:26in the boot there is room in the front
- 00:10:33boot actually D my bottom can fit in
- 00:10:35there let's find out so yeah look I can
- 00:10:40just about squeeze in here I don't know
- 00:10:41if I can squeeze out can you help me out
- 00:10:44literally
- 00:10:48stuck let's get the boys out the boot as
- 00:10:51well are you right sorry sorry there
- 00:10:54were two DC Chargers here at Leicester
- 00:10:57Forest East service station but but
- 00:10:59they're out of action in fact about 3 or
- 00:11:024 months ago when we did another range
- 00:11:03test they're out of action then to be
- 00:11:05fair these Chargers have now been
- 00:11:07removed from zap map but they haven't
- 00:11:10bothered to fit any other new ones in
- 00:11:13the meantime brilliant I've now jumped
- 00:11:16into the Ford Explorer and the thing a
- 00:11:18bit familiar about this car this switch
- 00:11:21gear here reminds me of a Volkswagen
- 00:11:24that's because this car underneath its
- 00:11:26skin is basically a Volkswagen ID 4
- 00:11:29which actually means that underneath its
- 00:11:32skin it's pretty much identical to the
- 00:11:34Audi Q4 I've already driven so it has
- 00:11:36the same 77 KW battery has the same
- 00:11:39286 horsepower rear drive motor in this
- 00:11:42car though it's good for not to 60
- 00:11:44according to Ford of 6.4 seconds and it
- 00:11:47feels pretty nippy nippier than the Kia
- 00:11:49but about the same as the Audi in fact
- 00:11:51the whole Driving Experience is very
- 00:11:53similar to the Audi the Ford Explorer
- 00:11:56starts from just under £440,000 this one
- 00:11:59have here is just under £50,000 though
- 00:12:01you can save an average of £3,000 off on
- 00:12:03through carwow the car I've got is
- 00:12:05actually in the lowest Spectrum although
- 00:12:07it's not low speec in any way shape all
- 00:12:09four got loads of tech on it including a
- 00:12:11heads up display got this huge
- 00:12:12entertainment screen which actually
- 00:12:14prefer to the one in the Audi apart from
- 00:12:16the fact that you don't have physical
- 00:12:18climate control buttons and look gimmick
- 00:12:21oh gimmick we can change the angle of it
- 00:12:24terms of everything else to do with the
- 00:12:26car quality of the materials is quite
- 00:12:28similar to the KY really and the Audi it
- 00:12:30doesn't feel
- 00:12:31£10,000 less good than the Audi okay
- 00:12:34here we are back in some Road works and
- 00:12:36we're just clocked over 75 Mi and this
- 00:12:39car is averaging
- 00:12:413.9 m per kwatt hour I have 73% of my
- 00:12:45battery left which the car says is good
- 00:12:47for 224 mil so Kia what are you doing
- 00:12:513.2 m per Kow hour 74% charge
- 00:12:5526 mil remaining po Star 28 . 7 KW hours
- 00:13:00per 100 Mil which equals 3.4 m per KW
- 00:13:04hour 76% of my battery left 282 mil
- 00:13:08Tesla 230 W hourss per mile which works
- 00:13:11out at 4.3 m per kwatt hour my battery
- 00:13:15is at 73% and my range is now projected
- 00:13:18at 246 mil Porsche 3.5 m per KW hour 78%
- 00:13:24of my battery left and an expected range
- 00:13:26of 208 mil the Porsche is bizarrely low
- 00:13:31and finally the Audi 3.4 m per KW hour
- 00:13:3569% of my battery remaining I'm going to
- 00:13:38do another 189
- 00:13:41miles that's doing terrible I mean
- 00:13:43considering the Audi is the same car
- 00:13:45underneath the skin as this Ford
- 00:13:47Explorer his projected range is way off
- 00:13:50I think things may change a little bit
- 00:13:52the further we go but we'll have to wait
- 00:13:54to find out look at this considerably
- 00:13:57cheaper than the Audi yet 360° cameras
- 00:14:01and I still that
- 00:14:03up even though the Ford Explorer is
- 00:14:05based on the Volkswagen id4 it does look
- 00:14:08a lot better but that's mainly because
- 00:14:09the id4 is such a terrible design I do
- 00:14:12prefer the look of the Audi than this
- 00:14:14and the Kia ev6 as well but it's all
- 00:14:17right hair in the back knee room's good
- 00:14:19head room it's good now I personally
- 00:14:20find it a bit more comfy to sit in than
- 00:14:22the Kia mainly because this seat seems a
- 00:14:24little bit higher off the floor though
- 00:14:26you can't recline the seat backs like
- 00:14:28you can in the Kia then as with the
- 00:14:29other cars I've tested so far flat floor
- 00:14:31so plenty of foot space there you can
- 00:14:32just squeeze your toes underneath the
- 00:14:34seats in front I actually think I'd
- 00:14:35rather go a distance in the back of this
- 00:14:37than the Kia now for the boot test we've
- 00:14:39got capacity of
- 00:14:41470 L I would like to lower this false
- 00:14:45floor for you guys but I can't because
- 00:14:47the cables are in there it's a shame
- 00:14:49though look unlike with the Audi we have
- 00:14:51a soft Low cover so that might actually
- 00:14:53help you out in terms of
- 00:14:58space I think we could be on prepare
- 00:15:01prepare
- 00:15:02prepare scream if it
- 00:15:07hurts hello in
- 00:15:13there I'm so
- 00:15:17sorry sorry I've been more
- 00:15:20comfortable
- 00:15:23sorry oh dear
- 00:15:30oh sorry but this was a Saving Grace
- 00:15:33wasn't it yeah that was bad are you all
- 00:15:35right yeah I'm fine here at trial
- 00:15:37Services we have one two three DC fast
- 00:15:41Chargers though I say fast they are in
- 00:15:44fact just 50 KW and there are uh one
- 00:15:48chademo and two real slow Chargers over
- 00:15:51there as well I've now jumped into the
- 00:15:52poar 4 the poar range is a bit confusing
- 00:15:55range starts with the pul star 2 at the
- 00:15:58top of the range is the P star 3 and
- 00:16:00this pul star 4 sits somewhere in the
- 00:16:03middle makes no sense the starting price
- 00:16:05of the Pulstar 4 is just under £60,000
- 00:16:07now this one is actually about £64,000
- 00:16:10it's the entry level car just got some
- 00:16:12extra bits and pieces on it like 21 in
- 00:16:14alloy wheels and this interior knit is
- 00:16:17quite nice now in terms of equipment it
- 00:16:20comes fully loaded so we've got things
- 00:16:22like heads up display we got this
- 00:16:23amazingly huge entertainment system that
- 00:16:26runs Android so you don't really need to
- 00:16:28Tey your phone to to it you can just use
- 00:16:29that system and as of course youve got
- 00:16:31an iPhone can you actually do apple
- 00:16:33carplay on it yes yes you can apparently
- 00:16:36so don't worry about that is a bit
- 00:16:38annoying that you have to do the climate
- 00:16:40through the screen but it's got this
- 00:16:42panel down here with all the key climate
- 00:16:43buttons on it but if you want to do the
- 00:16:45fan speed you do have to toggle into
- 00:16:46that terms of the interior design by far
- 00:16:48in a way this is the nicest car to sit
- 00:16:50in in terms of the drive yeah it feels
- 00:16:52pretty sophisticated and expensive right
- 00:16:54up there with the Audi in terms of
- 00:16:56comfort and noise levels pretty much the
- 00:16:58same money as the Audi why would you
- 00:17:00have the Audi over this we got a bigger
- 00:17:02battery 94 KW hours we got similar power
- 00:17:05once again single motor driving the back
- 00:17:07wheels 272 horsepower n 60 7.1 seconds
- 00:17:11and it feels pretty much as responsive
- 00:17:13as the Audi look we're going to tick
- 00:17:15over to 100
- 00:17:17miles there we go this car is averaging
- 00:17:2029 kows per 100 Mil which works out to
- 00:17:23about 3.4 m per kwatt hour I have 68% of
- 00:17:27the battery remaining and that gives me
- 00:17:29a remaining range of
- 00:17:31254 mil let's find out how the other
- 00:17:34cars are doing so Kia what are your
- 00:17:35numbers 3.3 m per KW 65% 180 M range
- 00:17:41left Audi how about you 3.4 m per KW
- 00:17:45hour 60% of my battery remaining
- 00:17:48174 mil well so far Porsche 3.5 m per
- 00:17:53Kow hour I have 71% of my battery left
- 00:17:56188 mil it's not great either but I
- 00:17:59think it's going to go further than that
- 00:18:01Tesla 4.3 m per kwatt hour I am at 64%
- 00:18:06and wonderly I'm down to 219 M and
- 00:18:09finally the Ford 3.9 m per KW hour 64%
- 00:18:13of my battery left 195 mil what's the
- 00:18:16scoda doing
- 00:18:1846.9 m to the gallon 450 M remaining I
- 00:18:23want to see if the scoda can go all the
- 00:18:25way to where these run out and all the
- 00:18:27way back to the services we started from
- 00:18:29all on one tank oh yeah this one has all
- 00:18:32the kit once again 360° View Camera but
- 00:18:35better definition and bigger than
- 00:18:37anything else I've driven so far this is
- 00:18:40nice this pul star is by far and away
- 00:18:42the best looking I can even forgive it
- 00:18:45slightly funky rear end there in the
- 00:18:46back knee room is really good head room
- 00:18:49that's fairly decent I do like the fact
- 00:18:51that you get this full length glass roof
- 00:18:54one slight issue I have is that while
- 00:18:56the flooor is completely flat with a
- 00:18:58decent am of foot space these seats are
- 00:19:00very close to the floor because of all
- 00:19:02the batteries underneath there so
- 00:19:04there's not so much under thigh support
- 00:19:06and you can't really slide your feet
- 00:19:07underneath the chair in front though the
- 00:19:09seat base is quite deep so you can sort
- 00:19:11of go a little bit side saddle and if
- 00:19:13you want to get a bit more comfy look at
- 00:19:17this if I press this button here and the
- 00:19:19one on the other side I can recline the
- 00:19:25seatbacks I mean really does feel quite
- 00:19:27luxurious in here yeah now let's check
- 00:19:29out the boot we have 526 L of space
- 00:19:32pretty big and you've got underfloor
- 00:19:34storage here and a big bin there for
- 00:19:36your cables which means oh if I push
- 00:19:39that look I can lower this down to give
- 00:19:41more room for you guys so go on
- 00:19:44Jack I think this is going to work come
- 00:19:46on Jamie come
- 00:19:48on look I'm not going to touch it oh I
- 00:19:51wonder if
- 00:19:53that cover's going to
- 00:19:57just yes
- 00:19:59it did it hey right you guys stay there
- 00:20:03got to show you something else because
- 00:20:04they thought about this pul star have
- 00:20:06unlike with cars from the VW group look
- 00:20:08we have a little bit of storage into
- 00:20:13here now my is not fitting in there no
- 00:20:16that's that's as good as it gets I think
- 00:20:18I better release the guys see how
- 00:20:19they're doing let's have a
- 00:20:23look hi what's that like more
- 00:20:25comfortable than the Ford I've got a
- 00:20:27question for you what happens if Jack
- 00:20:29farts I file a complaint with
- 00:20:31h that's if you're still alive well we
- 00:20:34finally found a service station with
- 00:20:35some decent DC electric charges and
- 00:20:37these are fast Chargers there are six of
- 00:20:39them here and they can do up to 180 KW
- 00:20:43there's three other DC Chargers over
- 00:20:44there but they're only 40 Kow but
- 00:20:46there's plenty well it appears to be
- 00:20:47plenty for the amount of electric cars
- 00:20:49here anyway if you're changing your car
- 00:20:51then you got to check out car wag
- 00:20:52because there's nothing quite like
- 00:20:53knowing that you're getting a great
- 00:20:54price both when selling your old car and
- 00:20:56finding a new one car makes all the the
- 00:20:58stuff that's hard work about car
- 00:21:01changing like the haggling the no
- 00:21:04shows and the nasty surprises a thing of
- 00:21:09the past life changing now if you want
- 00:21:11to go to car while right now I'll put a
- 00:21:13link in the description of this video
- 00:21:15and the Ping comment alternatively you
- 00:21:16can click on the pop out Banner
- 00:21:17appearing in the top right hand cor the
- 00:21:19screen now or scan the QR code on screen
- 00:21:21using your mobile phone to go directly
- 00:21:23there car change car wow now while I do
- 00:21:27think it's a bit of a pain that
- 00:21:28everything with the Tesla has to pretty
- 00:21:30much be done through this screen at
- 00:21:32least they do lean into that and make
- 00:21:34full benefit of the fact that there's no
- 00:21:36real buttons elsewhere in the car it's
- 00:21:38just a nice clean open space and people
- 00:21:42do complain about the quality of Teslas
- 00:21:44but actually I think it feels bad all
- 00:21:47the materials that you touch are soft
- 00:21:48and squidy even down on the door bins as
- 00:21:51well there's less scratchy Plastics in
- 00:21:53this and you'll find in the A and this
- 00:21:56is considerably less expensive so it
- 00:21:57starts from $47 ,000 this one though has
- 00:22:00a very top level of cruise control and
- 00:22:02that's a £6,000 option now it'll do
- 00:22:04things like stop you at traffic lights
- 00:22:06in town but you don't need any of that
- 00:22:08the basic system that you get a standard
- 00:22:10with this car that's all you need now
- 00:22:12the infotainment system does have an
- 00:22:13issue that you can't plug your phone
- 00:22:15into it there's no apple carplay no
- 00:22:16Android auto you have to use Tesla
- 00:22:19system and it's quite complicated with
- 00:22:21lots of different features in these
- 00:22:22different menus but when you've been
- 00:22:24with the car for a while you do learn it
- 00:22:26and it is okay and if you want to change
- 00:22:28the temperature obviously you have to go
- 00:22:29into the air conditioning menu and then
- 00:22:31look down a little bit also this is by
- 00:22:33far in away the sportiest car that I've
- 00:22:35driven so far part of the reason for
- 00:22:37that is the performance that you've got
- 00:22:38so this is the entry level single motor
- 00:22:40rear wheel drive car 352 horsepower Nord
- 00:22:4360 in a respectable 5.7 seconds but
- 00:22:46there is one Element to this car's
- 00:22:47Driving Experience which could put you
- 00:22:49off that's the fact that the suspension
- 00:22:50is a little bit overly firm fine when
- 00:22:53you're on the motorway but when you're
- 00:22:54on a bumpy road it can have you bouncing
- 00:22:56about a little bit too much also with
- 00:22:58the Tesla you get so much Tech so like
- 00:23:01with the Kia look put on the indicator
- 00:23:04and you get that blind spot but with the
- 00:23:05KY you have to go for the top speec car
- 00:23:07whereas with a Tesla standard this Tesla
- 00:23:09is my second favorite car to drive so
- 00:23:11far after the pole star but when you're
- 00:23:13considering the price you can see why so
- 00:23:15many people buy this Tesla Model y right
- 00:23:18let's just do a quick battery level
- 00:23:20check in so the Tesla is averaging 23.9
- 00:23:23W hours per mile which do the
- 00:23:24calculations is 4.2 m per kwatt hour
- 00:23:28we've got 53% of the battery remaining
- 00:23:30which is good for 173 mil let's check in
- 00:23:34with the other cars Kia what are your
- 00:23:36numbers I've got 3.4 m per Kow hour
- 00:23:4054% 147 M of range how about the Audi
- 00:23:453.5 m per kwatt hour 47% of battery 139
- 00:23:51more miles that looks like the AUD is
- 00:23:52going to run out first what about the
- 00:23:54pole star 3.5 m per KW hour 58% battery
- 00:23:59left 218 M of range and the Ford
- 00:24:02Explorer 4 m per KW 53% of my battery
- 00:24:06left 169 M and finally then the Porsche
- 00:24:103.6 m per KW hour 62% battery 63 mil
- 00:24:15right that is utterly wrong obviously if
- 00:24:18you do the maths on its energy
- 00:24:20consumption and the remaining battery of
- 00:24:22the size of its battery it should go
- 00:24:23much further than that I think I know
- 00:24:26the problem with the Porsche that would
- 00:24:27have been driven by journalists and they
- 00:24:28just been hooning it around so their
- 00:24:30energy consumption would have been awful
- 00:24:32and it's still calculating the range
- 00:24:34based on that historic data we'll find
- 00:24:36out exactly what happens a little later
- 00:24:38on now look at this we don't have
- 00:24:40surround view cameras but we do have
- 00:24:41these extra little views here and that
- 00:24:43does help as well so you sort of got
- 00:24:46your bird's eye view the biggest problem
- 00:24:48for me with the Tesla Model white is the
- 00:24:49way it looks I know it's very similar to
- 00:24:51the model 3 but somehow it just looks
- 00:24:53wrong and distended I am not a fan well
- 00:24:57I can't thought about the model y though
- 00:24:58is just how roomy it is here in the back
- 00:25:00loads of knee room head room's good and
- 00:25:03you get the glass roofer standard the
- 00:25:04seats are decent distance from the floor
- 00:25:07and there's loads of foot space and you
- 00:25:08can slide your feet underneath the seats
- 00:25:10in front cuz they're jacked up and do
- 00:25:12you know what this seat back while you
- 00:25:14can't move it it is nicely reclined
- 00:25:16there is one small problem this bit here
- 00:25:20it's actually fine for how I sit
- 00:25:21normally but if you want to put your
- 00:25:22head back and if you're tall you are
- 00:25:24going to hit your head on that part
- 00:25:25there but it is the most practical car
- 00:25:27here so far and that extends to the boot
- 00:25:29as well in here you have a whopping 850
- 00:25:33L of space a lot of that is underneath
- 00:25:35there where you keep all your cables and
- 00:25:37some more storage underneath here you
- 00:25:39have a lad cover which is a firm Low
- 00:25:43cover so I'm not sure how this is going
- 00:25:44to work for you guys because in theory
- 00:25:47should both fit in there but let's
- 00:25:49see and I'll deal with this for you
- 00:25:52there we go get yourself comfy oh you're
- 00:25:53going to do it no problem it's good look
- 00:25:55and you know what this is this is no
- 00:25:57problem at all so if you can shut un
- 00:25:59assisted watch your bottom
- 00:26:02oh there we go just a little bit of
- 00:26:05assistance so before we let them out
- 00:26:08there really is a good amount of space
- 00:26:11here underneath the bonnet look look at
- 00:26:13this massive absolutely massive could
- 00:26:17take a bath in here anyway better let
- 00:26:19them out and see what it's like for them
- 00:26:20in that boot for their final
- 00:26:24verdict Jamie what's it like in there
- 00:26:26it's all right actually yeah
- 00:26:29I've got a foot well okay is it better
- 00:26:31yeah best so far Jack uh I'm not the
- 00:26:35most comfortable okay all
- 00:26:39righted come on then load C I'm
- 00:26:44sorry right thank you very much finally
- 00:26:46we've come to a service station with a
- 00:26:48decent amount of electric Chargers so
- 00:26:50we're at ferry bridge near Wakefield we
- 00:26:52have 12 fast Chargers so these go up to
- 00:26:55350 KW which is pretty impressive you've
- 00:26:58also got a whole bunch of Tesla
- 00:26:59superchargers over there and if
- 00:27:01everything else is for there are some
- 00:27:03emergency 50 KW charges over there but
- 00:27:06if you can get a space here you're going
- 00:27:07to take it the Maan is definitely my
- 00:27:09favorite looking of these electric cars
- 00:27:11the front end is really cool I love this
- 00:27:14blue paint Scheme and the fact you get
- 00:27:16blue elements in the headlights
- 00:27:17definitely the best looking out of all
- 00:27:19of them followed by the pole star here
- 00:27:21in the back knee room is all right head
- 00:27:23room with this panoramic glass roof
- 00:27:25which obviously is an optional extra is
- 00:27:28all right but I think for people over 64
- 00:27:30it might get a little bit snug in terms
- 00:27:32of head room the seat backs are quite
- 00:27:34upright do you know there's something
- 00:27:36slightly tight about the feeling here in
- 00:27:39the back maybe it's the foot well isn't
- 00:27:41particularly spacious compared to the
- 00:27:42other cars though you can just about
- 00:27:44slide your feet underneath the chairs in
- 00:27:46front I think out of all the cars it is
- 00:27:48the least spacious in the back you can
- 00:27:50also get dual zone climate control in
- 00:27:51the rear though of course that's an
- 00:27:52optional extra and you got two USB C's
- 00:27:54there the low capacity is 540 L which is
- 00:27:57the second largest here after the Tesla
- 00:27:59let's see how usable it actually is so
- 00:28:01underneath here we have the bow sound
- 00:28:03system so we probably haven't got the
- 00:28:04full 540 l in this car once again that's
- 00:28:07an optional extra let's see how
- 00:28:09practical it is when it comes to
- 00:28:10carrying men so men do you think we
- 00:28:13obviously have a hard loc of I don't
- 00:28:15know how that's going to work out for
- 00:28:20you um by mik no are you ready should we
- 00:28:25give it a go I might give it some
- 00:28:26assistant it's going to need it cuz
- 00:28:27you're B like poking
- 00:28:30out no even even with me doing that it's
- 00:28:34not happening is it no youve had a lucky
- 00:28:36Escape let me go check out the um front
- 00:28:38boot cuz there is one on this car who
- 00:28:41almost chin me actually it's a decent
- 00:28:43amount of space look you can see you got
- 00:28:45the cable in
- 00:28:47there can I yes look I can fit in here
- 00:28:51with my snake like hips as you can see
- 00:28:53this is a leftand drive car because it's
- 00:28:55come over from Germany we haven't got
- 00:28:56them in the UK just yet but boy if you
- 00:28:59spec this up like for like with the UK
- 00:29:01car on the configurator
- 00:29:0394,000 this car reason being it's got
- 00:29:05over £25,000 worth of option the entry
- 00:29:08level price of the car like basic is
- 00:29:11£68,000 more expensive than the pole
- 00:29:13star that's without any kit on it if you
- 00:29:15want the headsup display which is lovely
- 00:29:17and it can even like show you if you're
- 00:29:18starting to weave out of your lane you
- 00:29:20have to pay extra for that if you want
- 00:29:21this particular steering wheel that's an
- 00:29:23extra if you want all this kind of LED
- 00:29:25lighting that's extra if you want this
- 00:29:27lovely headlining that's extra if you
- 00:29:29want that extra screen there that's
- 00:29:30extra and of course you're paying for
- 00:29:32that Porsche tax as well just for the
- 00:29:33Porsche badge all that said it does feel
- 00:29:36lovely however the entry level car gets
- 00:29:38a 340 horsepower rear drive motor which
- 00:29:41gives you 360 horsepower when you launch
- 00:29:43it and that's why it's the quickest from
- 00:29:450 to 60 it's not to 60 in 5.4 seconds
- 00:29:47and it does feel pretty responsive it
- 00:29:49also feels the most responsive to drive
- 00:29:52the steering is just very very reactive
- 00:29:54but not kind of Lighty in the same way
- 00:29:56that the Tesla is this particular car
- 00:29:57does does have the optional rear axle
- 00:29:59steering which does make it steer a
- 00:30:01little bit quicker but in terms of
- 00:30:02handling this is the best car and it
- 00:30:05rides the best as well because it is
- 00:30:06fitted with air suspension which of
- 00:30:08course is another option I don't think
- 00:30:10it's a massive improvement over that pul
- 00:30:13star it does run it close to Pulstar and
- 00:30:15that cares a lot better value in terms
- 00:30:17of how things feel though like the
- 00:30:19indicators and the noise from the
- 00:30:22indicator has a touch of quality to it
- 00:30:25soft touch all the way down here feels
- 00:30:27solid as well we've got climate control
- 00:30:30buttons which are separate to the
- 00:30:31infotainment system the screen itself is
- 00:30:34really really high definition it's quite
- 00:30:35easy to navigate as well overall this
- 00:30:37car has the nicest interior so look at
- 00:30:39this the Sun is going down and about to
- 00:30:42hit 200 miles so here in the Porsche I
- 00:30:45am averaging 3.5 m per kwatt hour I've
- 00:30:49got 39% of the battery remaining and the
- 00:30:52car is telling me I've got 102 M of
- 00:30:54range left though I think it's a little
- 00:30:56bit more let's check out the other car
- 00:30:58Audi I am doing 3.5 m per KW hour 22% of
- 00:31:03my battery remaining further 64 mil how
- 00:31:06about the Kia 3.3 m per KW 29% battery
- 00:31:11another 78 M how about the Ford the Ford
- 00:31:15is averaging 3.9 m per KW hour I have
- 00:31:1829% of my battery left which should take
- 00:31:20me 85 M the Tesla 4 m per KW 30% battery
- 00:31:26and that is saying a projected 9 23 mil
- 00:31:29the poar hello poar 3.4 m per KW 38% of
- 00:31:34my battery left 141 miles oo so the pole
- 00:31:38star has the best range I've pulled over
- 00:31:41cuz I've got a bit of a dilemma I need
- 00:31:43to decide which car I think is going to
- 00:31:45go the furthest overall is it going to
- 00:31:46be the Porsche is it going to be the
- 00:31:47pole star it's going to be close between
- 00:31:49these two because they're very evenly
- 00:31:50matched they are both consuming energy
- 00:31:53at the same rate so this is doing 3.5 m
- 00:31:55per Kow hour so is that they have
- 00:31:57similar battery pack sizes this is a 95
- 00:32:00kwh pack this is a 94 and they've got
- 00:32:03similar amount to their batteries
- 00:32:04remaining this is on 33% this is on 32
- 00:32:07so I'm not sure which way it's going to
- 00:32:09go now forget the remaining range
- 00:32:11because that's a calculation I think is
- 00:32:12slightly off of the Porsche but I've got
- 00:32:14to decide right now which one I think is
- 00:32:16going to go the furthest so which is it
- 00:32:19I've gone for the pole sta now I'm not
- 00:32:21sure if it's going to be the right
- 00:32:22decision I guess we'll find out but if I
- 00:32:24was going to be leasing one of these
- 00:32:25cars choosing the pul start of the
- 00:32:26Porsche would be the right thing to do
- 00:32:28and here's why so carwow has just
- 00:32:30launched its own leasing broker it's
- 00:32:32called carwow leasy if I go on there I
- 00:32:35can see that I can lease this very pul
- 00:32:37star for
- 00:32:38£440 excluding that and that's over 48
- 00:32:41months and with 9 months down the
- 00:32:43Porsche on the other hand is £700
- 00:32:45excluding that once again over 48 months
- 00:32:48and 9 months down and that's the Porsche
- 00:32:50without all the options fitted to our
- 00:32:51particular car so it actually work out
- 00:32:53more and for that difference per month I
- 00:32:55would definitely go for the pulse star
- 00:32:58now if you want to check out car Lei
- 00:32:59click on the pop out Banner appearing in
- 00:33:01the top right hand corner of the screen
- 00:33:02or if you're watching on Smart Tv scan
- 00:33:04the QR code on screen now using your
- 00:33:06mobile phone okay everyone let's have a
- 00:33:08quick check in so I'm still averaging
- 00:33:103.5 m per kilowatt hour I've got 28% of
- 00:33:13my battery remaining and it reckons I'm
- 00:33:15going to do 105 miles what's happening
- 00:33:18with the Kia I've got 3.4 m per KW hour
- 00:33:22I've got 18% battery and it's saying I'm
- 00:33:24going to do 45 miles are you going to
- 00:33:26stick on this route for b or you going
- 00:33:28to have to pull off I found a fast
- 00:33:30charger about 43 M away so I think I'm
- 00:33:33going to head there ooh that's going to
- 00:33:35be fun anyway Audi what about you my
- 00:33:38battery warning has just come up at 30 m
- 00:33:41of range I'm doing 3.5 m per Kow hour
- 00:33:4511% battery left so you going to have to
- 00:33:47get off pretty soon yes I'm going to
- 00:33:49have to get off in 26 miles is what the
- 00:33:52saav is saying all right how about the
- 00:33:54Ford Explorer averaging 3.8 m per Kow
- 00:33:57hour I have got 18% of my battery left
- 00:34:00which works out to a nice round 50 m
- 00:34:02well and how about the Tesla Tesla sat
- 00:34:05at
- 00:34:05247 watts per mile that is bang on 4 mil
- 00:34:10per kwatt hour and worryingly I have a
- 00:34:13petrol station logged in at 52 Mi and a
- 00:34:15range of 57 mil so we'll see how that
- 00:34:17goes and that is a battery level of 18%
- 00:34:20it'd probably be better off going to a
- 00:34:21charging Point rather than a petrol
- 00:34:22station but maybe he means a charging
- 00:34:25Point finally then the Porsche my main
- 00:34:27compe edor 3.5 m per KW hour it has 27%
- 00:34:32of it battery left should go 69 M I
- 00:34:36don't believe that cuz I'm on exactly
- 00:34:37the same figures and I've got 99 miles
- 00:34:40can we have a checkin from the scoda
- 00:34:42please 47 mil to the gallon 310 M of
- 00:34:46range remaining you just turn around and
- 00:34:48go back stop for a break showing size of
- 00:34:51being tired yes I am it'sa I've just had
- 00:34:54a warning uh to say I need to find a
- 00:34:56charger I've got 10 % left but I'm going
- 00:34:58to keep going that's the spirit I've got
- 00:35:01plenty of charge remaining 22% hey guys
- 00:35:04it's is Tesla here I'm at 11% battery
- 00:35:06and I had my first warning high energy
- 00:35:08consumption use navigation to estimate
- 00:35:11battery level and ensure arrival hey
- 00:35:14Matt it's the Audi here I'm currently
- 00:35:15sitting at 6 miles of range and I've
- 00:35:18only got 2% of battery so I am going to
- 00:35:20have to come off at the next Junction oh
- 00:35:22there he goes goodbye emotional one down
- 00:35:27five to go
- 00:35:28oh wait a minute I've just had a sign
- 00:35:30flash up that says battery level low and
- 00:35:31my battery meter's gone to an orange
- 00:35:33color 19% remaining 72 Mi of range now
- 00:35:37we are actually in a 60 so this reduced
- 00:35:40speed may help it how's the Kia doing
- 00:35:43charger I was planning to go to it's
- 00:35:45about 12 M away and I've got 11 M of
- 00:35:48range and 4% battery so I think I might
- 00:35:52need to find another charger I've had a
- 00:35:54new warning in the Ford the satav is
- 00:35:57flashing up you can only reach One
- 00:35:59charging station with your current
- 00:36:00charge level do you want to charge there
- 00:36:03news from the Porsche please check range
- 00:36:05so I checked the range and it says 40
- 00:36:07mil I do not know what else to do so
- 00:36:10I've got 177% as well but mine's saying
- 00:36:1364 mil it's 67 M to a fast charger so
- 00:36:17I'm 3 m short Kia I'm just going to pass
- 00:36:20you so you can go slow if you need to
- 00:36:22just so you can try and crawl to that
- 00:36:24charging station in 50 is definitely
- 00:36:26helped it's saying 6 half miles away and
- 00:36:28I've got six miles range so might need
- 00:36:31to go a bit slower than that come on you
- 00:36:32can do it Kia so everybody let's go just
- 00:36:36at 40 no quicker I'm going to turn off
- 00:36:38now I've got a power limited sign that's
- 00:36:40just come up on the dash and I'm down to
- 00:36:420% battery but I should make it it's now
- 00:36:45two down four to go it's the Ford here I
- 00:36:48have 3% battery remaining which works
- 00:36:50out at 9 M of range and I have just over
- 00:36:538 miles to go to get to my destination
- 00:36:55so I'm going to have to peel off this
- 00:36:56road very soon in about a mile and a
- 00:36:58half I think Tesla you going to join him
- 00:37:01my station is also in 8.3 miles but I've
- 00:37:04been told to stay on the road and I get
- 00:37:06to the station that way and I am at 4%
- 00:37:09battery with 9 miles left one of us is
- 00:37:12wrong Nick do you think you're both
- 00:37:14going to the same charger will it be
- 00:37:15whoever gets there first if so I think
- 00:37:17that might be Sam because I've just had
- 00:37:19a warning that says performance
- 00:37:20restricted consults the owner's manual
- 00:37:22well no time for that cuz I've got to
- 00:37:24turn off there he goes goodbye Ford face
- 00:37:28and it just like swerved down there how
- 00:37:30long till you have to pull off in the
- 00:37:31Tesla 6 miles I have got 6.1 mil of
- 00:37:36range less at 3% battery oh wait I've
- 00:37:39got a call I've got a call hello hello
- 00:37:41hello so this is sec4 what's happened
- 00:37:45the car only let me use 25% of its power
- 00:37:49once I hit 0 miles and 0% I finally ran
- 00:37:52out of charge the car came to a stop I
- 00:37:54then turned it off and then turned it on
- 00:37:56again and it let me move it at 4 M hour
- 00:37:59and then literally as I got to the
- 00:38:00charger it just peted out and completely
- 00:38:02died at 267 M how far did it go after it
- 00:38:08said there was no battery left it only
- 00:38:10actually did three more miles and what
- 00:38:13percent as it's done of its claimed
- 00:38:15mileage supposed to do 336 mil but it's
- 00:38:18only done 79% of its claimed range
- 00:38:22brilliant oh and thank you very much
- 00:38:24Tesla here I'm going to have to peel off
- 00:38:26I've got a .5 miles in range good luck
- 00:38:29to everybody okay Porsche it's just the
- 00:38:32two of us now I've got 9% of my battery
- 00:38:34remaining it says I've got 32 Mi I've
- 00:38:36got 35 mil to the charging point I want
- 00:38:39to reach in Scotland what's your car
- 00:38:41saying the POR is saying has 7% battery
- 00:38:4412 miles of range and I think the
- 00:38:46charger I need to go to is about 10 mil
- 00:38:49away the problem is the next one on from
- 00:38:51that is quite away on a duel Carriage
- 00:38:53race so I am going to be peeling off I
- 00:38:55think at this point What's your effic
- 00:38:57icy though still doing 3.5 m per Kow
- 00:39:00hour at the moment so if you're doing
- 00:39:013.5 m per kwatt hour you got 7% of your
- 00:39:04battery and you got a 95 kwh usable
- 00:39:07battery surely be able to go further
- 00:39:09than 12 miles probably can it's just I
- 00:39:12don't know how much oh hello it's a call
- 00:39:14from Sam in the Tesla hey Sam have you
- 00:39:16run out of charge to be fair to Tesla I
- 00:39:19didn't want to do it Injustice so when I
- 00:39:21got to the charge station I had 5 miles
- 00:39:23left there was a side road that I went
- 00:39:25driving around a little bit and
- 00:39:26eventually it got down you can no longer
- 00:39:28go any further so I turned round to head
- 00:39:30back to the charging station I got right
- 00:39:32next to the pump pulled forward to
- 00:39:34reverse back and it cut out
- 00:39:39oh oh no so then I'm blocking the road
- 00:39:42and all my fellow teser tonians I
- 00:39:44Googled how to put it into toe mode and
- 00:39:46then a fellow tonian helped me push it
- 00:39:48back this is me enjoying Tesla ownership
- 00:39:53and now I'm sat here it's already got
- 00:39:54112 mil in the tank so yeah electric
- 00:39:56cars are just am amazing aren't they I
- 00:39:58love the way you call it the pump and
- 00:39:59the tank such a petrol head quick
- 00:40:02question how far did you go in total
- 00:40:06294 miles and how far did it go after it
- 00:40:09said it had no miles remaining about
- 00:40:12seven okay so quite a lot how far was
- 00:40:15your car supposed to G to full charge so
- 00:40:16apparently they're supposed to do 373
- 00:40:19miles so that means you've done about
- 00:40:20like 79% of the claimed range yeah it's
- 00:40:23not great is it and what about the
- 00:40:24efficiency overall 3.8 m per Kow hour
- 00:40:28I'll leave you to charge up a little bit
- 00:40:29more and I'm going to see how far I can
- 00:40:30go see you later Hey Porsche how you
- 00:40:32doing I want 7% battery and 24 miles of
- 00:40:35range 30 m to go to my charging station
- 00:40:38I am on 5% battery 5 miles of range as I
- 00:40:42hit 5% battery I had another warning
- 00:40:44come up the infamous torus and drive
- 00:40:46power reduced I am going to have to turn
- 00:40:48right at the next roundabout and leave
- 00:40:50you afraid I'm going to turn right and
- 00:40:51you're turning left so this is goodbye
- 00:40:53that's the end of the porch you're not
- 00:40:55going to make it to Scotland then I
- 00:40:57think this pul star is the only car
- 00:40:58that's going to do it can see him in my
- 00:41:00mirror goodbye Porsche goodbye good news
- 00:41:04I've made it to Scotland heay look
- 00:41:06there's a sign for Edinburgh as well not
- 00:41:08going to be making Edinburgh do you know
- 00:41:10what this road is familiar in fact this
- 00:41:12very Point here is familiar because I
- 00:41:14actually conked out in another car in a
- 00:41:17different EV range test if you want to
- 00:41:19see what that car is click on the pop
- 00:41:21out Banner pring in the top right hand
- 00:41:22corner of the screen or follow the QR
- 00:41:24code on screen now okay so I've got a
- 00:41:27plan I know that the fast charger is
- 00:41:30back there in that town I've got 9 mies
- 00:41:33of range 3% battery what I'm going to do
- 00:41:36is turn around in this Village and head
- 00:41:38back to that charger and play it safe
- 00:41:41see if I can loop back on myself this is
- 00:41:42tight blim me is this right this is
- 00:41:45interesting be terrible if I run out of
- 00:41:47electricity here be rather awkward I
- 00:41:50think it must be this way oh this is
- 00:41:51tight and then down here and I should be
- 00:41:54able to go back on myself oh hello phone
- 00:41:56call hey Matt it's James and ikia I
- 00:41:58finally ran out of charge pulled off the
- 00:42:01A1 with about 0% battery I made it to
- 00:42:04the charger and then I probably drive
- 00:42:07around for like another 10 miles limited
- 00:42:10to 20 mph for a bit and then it wouldn't
- 00:42:13go any faster than five so I was
- 00:42:15literally reversing in and out of the
- 00:42:17charging spot before it eventually ConEd
- 00:42:19out yeah so just con out stopped driving
- 00:42:23the car but you could roll it yeah how
- 00:42:25many miles did you do in total I did 280
- 00:42:28exactly less than the Tesla but more
- 00:42:31than the Audi now what was it supposed
- 00:42:33to do the Kia was supposed to do
- 00:42:35347 mil which is about 81% I averaged
- 00:42:38about 3.4 m per Kow hour across the
- 00:42:41whole trip so not too bad but not
- 00:42:44brilliant either anyway I'm going to
- 00:42:45keep going I've got 2% battery and 6
- 00:42:47miles of range left all right cheers
- 00:42:49mate bye oh look another phone call
- 00:42:52hello it's Rory in the Porsche we have
- 00:42:55finally come to a stop got a bit B
- 00:42:57driving around the slow road so I
- 00:42:59ventured back onto the A1 uh where there
- 00:43:01sort of a half a mile stretch before you
- 00:43:03could turn back on yourself it was
- 00:43:05getting slow and slow it could barely
- 00:43:06get up to sort of 40 mph and luckily
- 00:43:09just as I was coming on the backstretch
- 00:43:10back into town I got a massive red
- 00:43:12warning saying only maneuvering was
- 00:43:15possible and as I rolled into the
- 00:43:17McDonald's with the charges it couldn't
- 00:43:19go up the hill and then I was just stuck
- 00:43:21on the hill however put my hazards on
- 00:43:23turned the car off turn it back on again
- 00:43:26uh found some power and I just managed
- 00:43:28to creep down into the car park it then
- 00:43:30ConEd out again I switched it off on
- 00:43:32again and then it just had enough power
- 00:43:34to roll itself into the bay but I've
- 00:43:36tried moving it again now and it won't
- 00:43:38go but I'm actually at the charger and
- 00:43:39the charger reaches so it's happy days
- 00:43:41for me but yeah B an interesting one oh
- 00:43:44well done so how many miles have you
- 00:43:46done in total
- 00:43:4838.1 miles only done 3.1 miles after %
- 00:43:53but the interesting thing is you would
- 00:43:54have made it to Scotland cuz I've done
- 00:43:56320 miles and I've gone past the charger
- 00:43:59more than like 5 miles ago I'm now
- 00:44:01coming back to it so you could have made
- 00:44:03Scotland you know I said I went up the
- 00:44:04A1 a bit I did make it 500
- 00:44:08me and then I turned around and came
- 00:44:10back to England and I went back to
- 00:44:12Scotland again about
- 00:44:13four England again oh well done
- 00:44:1638.1 that is the best so far apart from
- 00:44:20me cuz I'm not 320 and I'm still going
- 00:44:22so what was your claimed range I think
- 00:44:25you were supposed to be 380 6 mil I
- 00:44:28think that's 82% what was your energy
- 00:44:30consumption over the whole journey 3.5 m
- 00:44:32per Kow hours that's all right okay all
- 00:44:35dear look 1% battery considered charging
- 00:44:37I'm going to drive around for a bit oh
- 00:44:39here we go another phone call it's the
- 00:44:41last one so tell me what happened with
- 00:44:42the Ford hit 0% still had one mile of
- 00:44:46range which was a bit strange but it
- 00:44:47carried on going for another 5 miles
- 00:44:50after that most of which in maneuvering
- 00:44:52only mode which limited it to 4 mph it
- 00:44:55eventually died at
- 00:44:58291 mil that has just been beaten by the
- 00:45:02Tesla but you did beat the Audi and the
- 00:45:05Kia so go on then what was the range
- 00:45:07that your car was supposed to do so it's
- 00:45:09supposed to do
- 00:45:10374 miles which means I managed to do
- 00:45:1478% of that which is not too bad among
- 00:45:16the worst actually so far what was your
- 00:45:19energy consumption 3.8 m per kilowatt
- 00:45:22hour so that feels pretty good well I've
- 00:45:24got 1% battery and 2 miles of range
- 00:45:26remaining I'm still going I'm the only
- 00:45:28one I am over 320 Mi this car has won
- 00:45:32but we need to find out just how much
- 00:45:34buy oh look no battery life left
- 00:45:37remaining range 1 mile so that's at
- 00:45:41324 pretty much not really getting much
- 00:45:43in the way of warnings okay I think I'm
- 00:45:46going to have to turn around here there
- 00:45:47is a charger in there no way oh this
- 00:45:50could be perfect right I'm going to keep
- 00:45:52going for now I've got the safety of the
- 00:45:54charger there let's see how much further
- 00:45:56I can go come on car oh going slightly
- 00:46:00uphill now and it's
- 00:46:02struggling I'm hoping to sling shot
- 00:46:05around this roundabout and get back on
- 00:46:06this road again cuz I think this is my
- 00:46:08last bit of
- 00:46:11driving Go Bus do not pull out bus do
- 00:46:14not pull out bus you definitely pulled
- 00:46:16out a come
- 00:46:18on oh I got dirted by the bus we're
- 00:46:22going to do 330 Mi to at 328 oh I don't
- 00:46:27know if I'm going to get back up this
- 00:46:28hill can't go over 60 MPH up here I
- 00:46:31think we're definitely going to make 330
- 00:46:33maybe we can make
- 00:46:35332 cuz that means I'd only be 40 m shy
- 00:46:39of the claimed range for this car which
- 00:46:41is 372 mil it can't possibly make it up
- 00:46:46this hill again oh my foot is on the
- 00:46:49floor the speed is holding up 15 if I
- 00:46:54can just make it up here come on yes so
- 00:46:57that's 40 Mi within the claimed range
- 00:46:59next challenge is to get to
- 00:47:02333 cuz if we can that is pretty much
- 00:47:0590% of the claimed range no the traffic
- 00:47:08please no the traffic bugger go go go go
- 00:47:11go come on come on come on get round
- 00:47:13don't slow down God you're going slower
- 00:47:15than me Classic Honda Jazz driver
- 00:47:19slingshot this is it don't stop here po
- 00:47:21Star come on 3 32.9 get me to 333 come
- 00:47:26on get me to 333 we're going Upper Hill
- 00:47:29ah this hill could kill me less than 100
- 00:47:32m we've got to do this then you've got
- 00:47:3490% of your claimed range yes 33 three
- 00:47:3890% of the claimed range whatever
- 00:47:40happens now is a bonus oh no that I just
- 00:47:44felt something it's just lost all power
- 00:47:46we're at the top of the hill as well oh
- 00:47:48come on oh there we go it is game over
- 00:47:52car has stopped it's rolling back a bit
- 00:47:543 33.1 we got 28 8.1 KW per 100 m so
- 00:47:59that is 3.5 m per kwatt hour we've done
- 00:48:0290% of the claimed range I think it's
- 00:48:04the clear winner in terms of range I
- 00:48:06think it's the clear winner as well in
- 00:48:07terms of what you're getting for your
- 00:48:09money now it just need rescuing the good
- 00:48:11news is it does actually roll so it can
- 00:48:13be pushed we're not going to push it
- 00:48:14though the RAC have a fleet of Vans
- 00:48:15which equipped with AC charging and they
- 00:48:17can charge up to 4 Kow so we'll get some
- 00:48:19juice into this battery and I'll be able
- 00:48:21to drive it down to that charger down
- 00:48:22there so we charged up using the RAC for
- 00:48:24about 10 minutes we've now got one mile
- 00:48:26ranging even though it's saying battery
- 00:48:270% we should be good to go I think wait
- 00:48:30are we actually good to go no we're not
- 00:48:34it's rolling back don't understand I
- 00:48:36proba feel going in
- 00:48:38reverse no it's it's not got any power
- 00:48:41that doesn't make any sense all right
- 00:48:43let's keep
- 00:48:44charging clearly I hadn't left it on
- 00:48:47charge for long enough so after a few
- 00:48:48more minutes plugged into the RAC van
- 00:48:50the postar was able to drive to a nearby
- 00:48:52charge point but how did its performance
- 00:48:54compare to all the other cars in this
- 00:48:56test well the pole star won it did 333
- 00:48:59Mi which is 90% of its claimed range and
- 00:49:01achieved 3.5 m per kwatt hour next was
- 00:49:04the Porsche which did 318 Mi that's 82%
- 00:49:07of its claimed range it also returned
- 00:49:093.5 m per kwatt hour in third place was
- 00:49:12the Tesla which did 294 Mi that's 79% of
- 00:49:15its claimed range it managed 3.8 m per
- 00:49:18kwatt the Ford did 291 M which is 78% of
- 00:49:22its claimed range and it achieved 3.8 m
- 00:49:24per KW hour meanwhile the K did did 280
- 00:49:27Mi that's 81% of its claimed range and
- 00:49:30it did 3.4 m per KW last was the Audi it
- 00:49:33did 268 mil which is 79% of its claimed
- 00:49:36range and it managed 3.5 m per
- 00:49:40KW but I haven't mentioned the scoda
- 00:49:43camera car and that brings us onto costs
- 00:49:45the Kodiak still had 205 Mi of range
- 00:49:48remaining in its tank when the Pulstar
- 00:49:50ran out of battery and its average
- 00:49:51economy was 47.2 MP gallon but this
- 00:49:54doesn't give you the full picture
- 00:49:56because obviously we drove to Scotland
- 00:49:58but we also needed to drive back and
- 00:50:00when you calculate the full round trip
- 00:50:02the scoda used £92 in diesel to drive
- 00:50:05from a start point to where the pole
- 00:50:07star stopped and then back again and it
- 00:50:09only needed to refuel once on the way
- 00:50:11back meanwhile the poar actually needed
- 00:50:13to be recharged twice during the same
- 00:50:15round trip but the cost of all the
- 00:50:16electricity used amazingly came to the
- 00:50:18same
- 00:50:19£92 however the paar's initial charge
- 00:50:22was done using a home charger which
- 00:50:24works out a lot cheaper than using
- 00:50:25public fast charg had we used DC fast
- 00:50:28charging for the outward leg as well as
- 00:50:29the return leg with the Pulstar the
- 00:50:31overall cost would have actually come to
- 00:50:33£140 which is almost 50 more than with a
- 00:50:36scoda anyway I hope you enjoyed the
- 00:50:38video if you did give it a like if you
